[SYD] Where Can I Get a Thing 3D Printed?

Hi all, I'm looking to get a mounting bracket 3D printed to hold an LCD screen to a remote for an FPV quad.
This is the thing: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1415509
Are there any cheap places to get this done? Quality (resolution) doesn't matter, just want it to not be extremely brittle.
It'll be (roughly) 10x10x5cm.

Cheers

    I have no idea.

But this place price matches. http://3dprint-au.com/ It would be crazy expensive though (over $100) since you pay for the equivalent cube volume of the entire object and that stick sticking out ruins everything. Plus they only print nylon. You got proably get it 5 times cheaper in ABS somewhere else.

  • I have something I'd like printed too, in Melbourne. Any pointers?

    • Shoot me a message and I can help you out! ;-)

Check www.3dhubs.com - Drag and drop the STL file you want printed and it will list out 3d printer services around your area with an approx quote.

    • cool idea.
I wonder how many are just people that bought the cheap Aldi 3d printer. and now making a couple of dollars out of it.

Been there, and done that – but I found out the hard way that you'll wear out the components on cheap printers more quickly than you expect. It can be a good way to recover some of the printer cost and get to have fun trying different challenges, but make sure you're mechanically handy!

        • I uploaded a file and there is one local on the gold coast for me (choosing cheap plastic) even though the site says 6640 hubs near me (most are 100km or more away.
Choose other materials and 26 local hubs are starting from 12,000km away!

          @PVA:
The cheap materials (PLA, ABS) are the ones people commonly print. Most of the other materials are done with very expensive professional printers used by "real" prototyping companies.

        • @pinchies:
It was more that the site said local hubs near me - 12000km isnt really local.

3dhubs is the way to go. I've used them before, go through the list and find someone cheap that posts. I had a few parts printed for under $20 delivered. They list what printer they have so you can choose if you want to (for your simple part it really doesn't matter, there's no overhangs or supports)

I also own a $500 printer and have access to a very decent ultimaker2. I've had the cheap printer for over a year now and nothing has worn out, it's pretty rock solid, i can also push the print quality up close to what the ultimaker produces. It's always a trade off between time vs print quality. My cheap printer is all custom parts, it was made from scratch and uses very similar firmware to the ultimaker.

Yes PLA and ABS are standard but they are by no means all you can print with in a "cheap" printer. My extruder can go up to 265 degrees so i can do a few exotics like rubber. My cheap printer can also use wood and metal filaments but they accelerate nozzle wear greatly.

Your part is very simple, my cheap printer does up to 20x20x20 which is pretty standard unless you own a toy. Your part has no overhangs, can be printed flat with no supports. The only issue is that the large flat bottom surface may curl up at the edges

      • Sounds like your custom printer is a bit of a winner! A couple questions:
        • Do you use cable chains?
        • What AWG do you use for your wires?
        • What extruder do you use? Does it have PTFE inside?
        • Do you use aluminium extrusions for your frame?
        • Was it your own design or one of the ones online?
        Thanks!

    • Thank you, there are heaps of people/places not too far from me, weighs in at ~$15.
