Not entirely true. It depends on the chair. I have an Ergohuman and it's got a mesh seat with some padding at the front. Still as cushy as the day I got it over 2 years ago.

My experience with cheap office chairs, they don't last very long since it's cheap manufacturing quality. You get what you pay for.
Bought the ovela ergonomoc mesh chair and realised that it is not a good idea to have mesh on the seat as it is not very comfy to sit on. Better to have mesh back and padded seat if possible.
