If you are looking for 4k Blu-ray player then it would be better to save your money and wait for the new Xbox one S

I came here to say the same thing.

Anyone who buys a 4K player atm is an idiot.

      • Depends on if you value sound quality… gaming consoles typically do not provide the best audio fidelity when used with high end equipment vs a quality standalone unit.

Personally I'd get the new Panasonic 4K player once it is out later this year to use in my home theatre.

HDMI is digital, ie 1s and 0s. No difference if it is "high end" or "basement bargain". It's like saying you will get better sound quality if you use Monster Cables vs generic ebay ones (that work).

@chewkl: only a novice would use the hdmi digital connection for high quality audio. Why do you think people pay for players like the Oppo 105d.

        • @Obione:

Show this novice how you do Dolby Atmos without HDMI.

        • @Obione:

Nothing wrong using HDMI for audio and that depends on how it's used for.

Alternative method is only Optical/Toslink cable if that's purely audio but if the system is made for Home Theatre, there's no point using an Optical and HDMI for video only.

        • @chewkl:

HDMI for surround sound is fine. What people call high fidelity music is two channel. Not atmos. For two channel music analogue is still king. The idea is to use the device with the best sound processor to do the digital to analogue conversion before the signal gets passed to the amplifier. This is why high end bluray players have a dedicated low distortion DAC built in so that two channel signal gets processed by the player itself and not another device.. The Oppo 105d can actually do this for 7 channels. When you use hdmi for everything you basically bypassing this and telling your TV or surround receiver to do all the processing. Most receivers and tv's do a rubbish job at this and add distortion which may not be evident on a pair of Samsung speakers but will definitely be noticeable on something more high end

    • How much is that Xbox going to sell for? And what date?

      Thanks!
