  • So what's the deal ?

    • +1

OzBargainHood is the coupon code, list now to get a bonus 5% earnings.

      • At least the deal isn't something like "Free Airport Parking when Renting Out Car to Pokemon Go Players".

      • who covers the insurance if the car is crashed or damaged whole its being rented?
you say its free parking if i park for more than 72 hours and no one rents the car, does that mean i can get the crapiest car i can find, drive it to your address and park it and get free parking?

        • Hi Tuzii,
Our insurance covers your vehicle whilst it is out on rent at no cost to you.
Your vehicle must be 2002 or newer and no more than 200,000kms on the clock and in a roadworthy condition.

        • @Carhood: Worth putting that in the OP.

    You're dreaming

    • Dreaming on not paying for Airport Parking, I don't think so. I know plenty of people who have had enough of paying $60/day for airport parking and feeding the pockets of Macquarie Bank.

  • If no-one rents it, is parking still free?

    • +2

If you travel for greater than 72 hours and your car is not rented out then parking is still free, that's correct.
If less than 72 hours and it doesn't get rented out then its $10/day parking.
Parking is always free if the car gets rented out.

      • What about car wash? Does the car gets wash if not rented out?

        • The car will get a free detail before & after if its rented out. If the car isn't rented out it won't be washed for free. We can offer a paid car wash if need be ($40 inside & out/ $25 for outside or inside)

  • +1

I don't understand. This post does not have enough information. So I can park my car with you for free, get a free carwash, and choose not to make my car available for car share? Normally when something sounds too good to be true, it is. Please elaborate so everyone doesn't have to click through to your link and work out the full details themself.

        • To get free parking, a free car wash and a percentage of the earnings your car needs to be made available to share to other travellers.

        • And how much is just parking at Sydney Airport if I do not wish to share my car with other travellers?

  • I've used Carhood in Brisbane and it's great. I live over an hour drive from the airport or 2.5 hours on a train/bus. I pay $0 or even get paid, and I come back to a nice and clean car. It's like a no-brainer.

Rep, is this code only for Sydney?

    • This code is nationwide, and is a promotion of our Sydney launch!
Make sure you both list your car for sharing and rent a car on the other end :)

  • Never heard of this before, so just for the info a + from me. Will maybe look into it next time I fly over east.

  • +ve from me, an interesting idea, will look into it.

Rental cars are the fastest cars because they aren't mine.

Carhood is currently testing car tracking kits as an extra assurance to owners that their vehicles are looked after. Because most of our renters are sharing their cars also, they respect the fact that it is someone elses car (not a hire companies).

      • Once you have the tracking kits will there be penalties for aggressive driving?

        • That's correct, we're currently testing the deceleration and acceleration components of the tracking kits.

Heard about something like this a while ago (I don't know if it was Carhood or a similar company - it wasn't in Sydney at the time). I think it's a smart idea - especially given the exorbitant price of parking at the airport.

  • Highly recommend this. Used a few times. Had infringements on one particular occasion and they were taken care of without issue.

  • Who pays for the petrol? Is there any limit on the KM allowed by the renter?

    • The owner drops it off with a full tank and gets it back with a full tank. The renter pays for the petrol.
Renters are permitted to drive 200km/rental day, most renters average around 50km/rental day.

  • Who pays the tolls, infingements, towing costs, etc….

    • +2

We put an e-tag in the car and the tolls are charged to us and subsequently passed onto the renter.
Infringements are also passed onto the renter as would any towing etc.

  • Very interesting concept. I understand all the questions around uncertainty around insurance, tolls, petrol, etc. but struggling to understand how people don't get the concept.

It's basically Airbnb for cars where you park your car at the airport while you're away on holiday. I can definitely see a lot of potential wins here for many different groups of people. The only ones who will be complaining are Hertz, Europcar, Avis and co.

  • +2

I like the concept and really want to support the business, but can't get past the fact of some stranger thrashing the sh1t out of my car.

    • The renters are other travellers and are aware that the vehicle is another persons pride & joy. Typically most of them have dropped their own car off at one of our sites. As such they treat the vehicle with respect. The car is fully insured when out on rent. We also put car tracking kits in certain vehicles for extra assurance.
Moreover, we do credit score checks on renters and the renters must be of a certain age, possess a full drivers licence and have no incurred any major infringements.

      • Further to this, I have never heard any owner after collecting their vehicle say they feel that their car has been thrashed.

        • +1

How do you know if your car has been thrashed?

        • +1

          @Rocket:

Or if some unscrupulous renter has been swapping parts out from your car!

  • What are the joining bonuses for new Renters ?

  • Do you service International terminal as well?

    • +1

Yes most certainly, we offer pick-up & drop-off at both the domestic & international terminals.

  • Curious concept. Genuine questions:

    1. What if I come back from holiday, get off my flight, and then is told a renter crashed my car? What's next?

    2. What if there's a small dent or a minor paint chip? Who decides whether to lodge a claim? What do I/you need to prove to lodge a claim & what's the excess fee?

    • +1

      Hi Mocha_latte,
      1) Should, on the odd chance, any damage occur to your car, your vehicle is fully insured under our insurance policy at no cost to you. We will put you in a loan car (for free) until your vehicle is fully repaired.

      2) We conduct a thorough condition report of the vehicle each and every time the vehicle enters and exists our warehouse. We will notify you of any damage (if you are away), however if you come back and notice new damage then our claims department will manage the claim for you. There is no excess payable for car owners.

  • Have any Ozbargainers tried it yet? Going away for the weekend and thought I'd try it with my beloved car. What am I thinking?! Seriously would like to give them a go and support a great idea.

  • +1

SydneySurfer, I recently used this service as the car owner. I was really satisfied with its reliability and free parking. Unfortunately my car was not rented out so I did not get a free car wash, but I will absolutely use this service every time I go to the airport in the future. It is a no brainer.
