For those of us nearby MSY, do yourself a favor, buy it there and avoid posting these drives. These sellers ship their drives in bubble wrap.

What an awful way to ship a plattered hard drive. Disgraceful. As if Seagate hard drives didn't have a bad enough reputation, PCByte ships them with little to no protection.

I don't know why anyone would waste their time with an online shop for a $9 saving…

    • The lastest amazon one came in the same bubblewrap package (4tb portable seagate) delivered by postie on a bike (rather than the usual van). I think most places are doing this these days.

      • I would have thought that Amazon would ship them in a box. Every thing else from seller Amazon.com seems to come in a box (apart from some DVD's and Blu-ray movies, and clothing). I even recently bought a 50 pack of BD-R recordable media from Amazon US and it came in an Amazon cardboard box with air bubble padding.

Perhaps your purchase came through a third party seller through Amazon (not seller Amazon.com) and they did a dodgy when it came to shipping.

      • My last drive from Amazon arrived in a plastic case resembling https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/617AGZAEm7L.SL256.jpg

Was more than adequate in my view, and I thought it was their standard hard drive packaging.

        • Going by that photo, a plastic case inside a box. So Amazon does ship 3.5" internal hard drives protected inside a box which is good. So just as i thought Amazon doesn't ship them in just wrapped in bubble wrap in a plastic satchel bag like some online stores do.

    • You are lucky that they have shipped it out. I have bought 2SSD from them 8wks ago and have not received it yet.

      • With the number of reports of PC byte taking people's money and not delivering on this site alone I have no idea why their deals are allowed to be posted.

  • Is it 7200rpm?

5,900RPM based off the MPN from the eBay listing.

PCBYTE IS THE WORST STORE I'VE BOUGHT OFF, SAVE YOURSELF THE HASSLE AND BUY ELSE WHERE.

    customer service?
    what customer service?

    • I totally agree with you. She is a poor communicator and disorganise.

      • Yep, screwed me on 3 items as well.

hey, at least you got laid

    • customer service?
      what customer service?

      That's after you ask:

Items that were meant to be shipped?
What items that were meant to be shipped?

      And:

      Where is my money?

Should be banned from OzBargain like the other scammers.

I am still waiting for my money. Rang ebay twice and they said PC Bytes does not have enough money in her PayPal account to refund me. How is this possible? I have requested that her shop be banned but the guy on the phone said ebay has an algorithmic formula to determine when they are going to ban the seller.

        • Well if the funds aren't in the Paypal account balance it comes sourced through their bank account instead.

        • I am still waiting for my money. Rang ebay twice and they said PC Bytes does not have enough money in her PayPal account to refund me

There is NO WAY in the world that Ebay would say that.

They don't have access to such information anyway.

Just escalate it to a claim and stop fart arsing around.

        • @llama:

I agree and I did not believe the guy at the end of the phone. I have told him that it is Paypal or eBay responsibility to refund the money to me without delay.

        • @Bargain Zombies:

I have told him that it is Paypal or eBay responsibility to refund the money to me without delay.

There is no talking, telling or requesting involved. There is certainly no need for phone calls.

Process the claim, and stop fart-arsing around.

If you don't know how to do that, send me a PM (but I am very busy right now at work so cannot answer immediately).

        • @llama: I am not fart-arsing around. I have filed the claim many weeks ago.

        • @Bargain Zombies:

          Many weeks? ESCLATE IT. Now.

        • @llama:
Have escalated it to the top. That is why I end up contacting them by chat and phone.

  • Something else you lot should be aware of; the eBay store 'PC Byte' is in fact multiple legal entities who trade on eBay under the same banner. I had three orders from them addressed from different businesses… how the hell is anyone supposed to reliably work with this for warranty claims!

    • Something else you lot should be aware of; the eBay store 'PC Byte' is in fact multiple legal entities who trade on eBay under the same banner.

That is not possible, and you are "misguided" to be making that comment.

I had three orders from them addressed from different businesses

Of course - that is very common. Most companies source and supply from different logistics operations in that way. For example, where I currently work we supply most orders from Victoria from a 3rd party logistics company in Tullamarine. Yet orders received from South Australia might get delivered from Tullamarine -OR- from our main offices in Sydney -OR- from our small warehouse in Adelaide.

Each order gets fulfilled however we can do it quickest, cheapest and easiest. Some companies have the manufacturer ship direct (a form of drop shipping).
      - Anyway, WHO CARES how it gets delivered to you?

how the hell is anyone supposed to reliably work with this for warranty claims!

Warranty claims are via the company that invoiced you. The delivering warehouse is irrelevant.

PC-Byte clearly state who you are "dealing with":

      PC Byte Australia
      ABN: 23 140 840 606
      12/4 Avenue of Americas,
      Newington NSW 2127
      email [email protected]
      phone (02) 9737 0306

The warranty and returns process is also clearly documented:

All this stuff is not difficult, so don't make it so. No need to overthink things - and don't spread false information either.

      • Yeah things read real nice and Rosey right up until they decide to be difficult about things.
