Will there be a Jetstar Japan 2 for 1 this year? 2016

So I have been waiting for a deal to happen but I'm getting a bit antsy as I will be travelling in November. I know it has been happening annually but seems a bit late this time. Starting to suspect that Japan has become such a popular destination that it won't be happening anymore.

Anyone with insider knowledge?

  • Um, we got tix in the Jetstar 2 for 1 sale in April. Travelling in October.
    It was posted here.

  • No insider knowledge, but there will be another Jetstar sale this year which includes flights to Japan. As for whether it will be '2 for 1' and include dates that you want, well that's anyone's guess. What dates are you looking at?

There's also an AirAsia sale for flights to Japan right now: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/258521

Starting to suspect that Japan has become such a popular destination that it won't be happening anymore.

The airlines almost always have new aircraft on order and are always looking to increase frequencies or fly new routes. If a destination becomes more popular the airlines will put on more flights and it should only get cheaper. Often airlines would rather have excess capacity than have a competing airline start flying the same route.

    • Thanks! Ah well, I've bought them at $390 one way, I suppose that's as good as it'll get if there isn't a sale. Thanks for the airasia suggestion, looked at it but it's perhaps a bit too long and inconvenient for travel - taking an entire day and arriving at 10pm! Now, I guess I'll just avoid looking at Jetstar or I'll get buyer's regret if the sale does come out.

      • Out of curiosity, with which airline did you get $390 one way? I'm also currently looking for tickets to Japan and have not been able to find them for that price.

        • MEL to Tokyo is currently $349 for travel in Mid Feb to early March 2017.

Or Tokyo is $249 from Cairns in late October to mid November. Until sold out.
