    Limits?

    • None mentioned.

    • +1

Probably one per card like most other deals.

      • One per credit card?

        • +1

          Per Rewards Card.

        • @JIMB0:

Everyday Rewards Card? What happens at Point of Sale if you use it the second time?

        • +2

@watwatwat: Why don't you try it for yourself and report back?

  • +2

can you buy the eftpos card with woolworths rewards?

    • +11

I don't see why not. Let gift card inception begin.

  • Wednesday is 27 July !!!!!!!!!!

When it start? 27 or 29?

    • 27th. Sorry.

  • Which page of catalog mentioning this?

  • +3

    Page 25

  • Cash out allowed?

    • +3

      Doubt it.

      • Oh well, I'm going to try it out. If it doesn't work I can always just use the card as normal :)

        • Nah, I've gotten quite a few of similar eftpos cards and they all give ERROR CONTACT ISSUER when I try to get cashout.

  • +1

Interesting, looks like a good deal.

Wonder if i can pay for these using some prepaid visa cards i have that are expiring soon.

  • how many per person?

    • +1

As many as you can get your hands on :)

  • Do these require activation by WW staff? May kill the egiftcard payment option.

  • If cash-out is allowed, this could also be used as a profitable cash advance if you buy a Woolworths gift card from Groupon, pay via credit card, buy this EFTPOS card and cash-out.

    • +2

These cards will not allow cash out.

      • Have you tried? Anyways just checked and Groupon is sold out :(

        • +1

In the past yes, and it's written in the T&Cs of the card.

        • -3

@Trance N Dance: Dodgy, they should put those terms in the ad

        • @Trance N Dance: Alright then, thanks @Trance N Dance.

        • @fruit:
If they did the cataloges would be about a billion pages long, the terms are on the back of the card and that's enough cause if you want to buy them you can read it then.

        • You can always buy through Cashrewards.

      • +3

No these cards won't work in an ATM and have had the 'cash out' function disabled. I have tried both.

    • +6

You can't buy prepaid eftpos cards with wish cards . I tried the other day and payment was declined

  • how does you get from 95.95 to 90.65, that's not 5%

    • thats when you used a wish egift card bought at 5% off say from cashrewards
      Not 5% off $95.95

      • +1

        (105.95*0.95)-10

    • +1

The OP took the $10 woolworths dollars off the price. $105.95x0.95-$10=$90.6525

    • thanks, my mistake

  • Is it possible to use the card just purchased to purchase another one?

    • Of course, it's treated almost just like cash. The real question is to see if the Woolworths dollars can be used to purchase another one.

      • Exactly. If it's allowed, these cards will be gone VERY quickly. (Probably will anyway)
You'll basically be buying $10 credits for $5.95. So 40% off

  • only purchase in store?

    • Yes.

  • +1

Could be a good way to spend the $2k on amex to get the free 100k velocity points here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/255389

So…. buy wish cards with 5% off through cashrewards using american express, then buy these eftpos cards. So as per OP, $105.95 for $90.65 and you get to chew through the amex spend.

    • +1

Also spending the $550 for the Amex Platinum Edge deal to get 15,000 Amex Reward points, and get another 1,650 points for making this spend at Woolies.

Couldn't have come at a better time if it works.

Edit - And $15 Amex statement credit for spending $30 at Woolies if you've recently got an Amex card and enrolled for the Welcome offer.

  • +5

You can't buy prepaid eftpos cards with wish cards . I tried the other day and payment was declined

    • +4

correct, even I tried once and you cannot buy EFTPOS gift card with Wish cards

    • +1

Prepaid EFTPOS or Prepaid Visa? I tried Prepaid VISA (the Woolies branded one with $5.50 activation fee) and can also confirm that this definitely cannot be paid with either WISH GC or any credit card, because the way the system sees the payment is as a "Cash Out". For this reason, it has to paid for using a debit card.

      • -1

        Prepaid EFTPOS or Prepaid Visa

        both

      • -2

Because for Prepaid VISA,you need to nominate the amount, not for the EFTPOS card(set amount).I think it can be bought just like a Westfield Giftcard.

Someone will report on that day and we will see.

        • My previous experience has been gift cards with preset amounts can be bought with wish cards. We'll see…

  • Can you buy these with AMEX?

    • +2

In the past, I've been able to buy these using Amex (about 2 years ago), though I'm not sure if their systems have caught up since. I can also confirm that wish and egift cards can't be used and will be declined.

      • +5

triple points on amex plat edge, then use these cards elsewhere where amex not accept!

    • and some banks with charge you a cash advance fee for eftpos or visa prepaid cards

    • I bought prepaid VISA cards on AMEX during this deal at Harvey Norman

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/246022

Was not charged any cash advance fee.

Prepaid EFTPOS card and/or Woolworths may be different case.

      • -1

        Well it's not a cash advance….

        • -1

some banks with consider it as such.

      • Yea I tried it at Woolies.

It gets charged as a "cash out" as opposed to Harvey Norman where it's simply charged as a standard transaction.

        So nope doesn't work.

        • Which did you try? Prepaid Visa or Eftpos card?

        • +1

@Dacs: Visa. The one that has green/yellow packaging and has a $5.50 activation fee and Woolies branding.

  • +2

So, if you want to spend at Woolies, a 5% off Wish card is slightly better. If you want to spend anywhere else, then these could be a winner at around 4% saving.

  • +2

4% off life. Not bad! Thanks OP!

    • 4% off life

Would you mind elaborating - the life bit :-)? Thanks in advance.

      • +1

I'm guessing it means you can buy anything you need with an EFTPOS card and get 4% off. Utility bills, food, fuel, etc.

        • Oh I see. A bit dense here :-). Thanks.

        • @bluesky: Not very impressive for Mr. fee-free AMEX's ;) hahaha

      • +4

Let's say your life expectancy is 80 years. I think he means that this deal will take 4% off, so you'll only live until 76.8. Means that you get better value from your life insurance since you don't have to live as long to claim.

  • Meh.

  • -4

Is this post supposed to be a joke or is it legit?

    • -2

Obviously a joke.. maybe report it to the mods?

  • +3

What about pay$6 by cash and ING card the rest.
    Effectively $93.95 (save another $2)

    • Why don't you just split the payment into two payments? Then you've 2%'d (let's just pretend that's a word) the entire amount!

  • These cards are not the easiest to use up. Most places won't allow split payments so you'll end up using them on purchases under $100 and will likely end up with a small residual balance.

    • +4

Most supermarkets will allow you to split a payment, and if you're using self-service checkout machines you can do it yourself.

    • +1

I have never had an issue with spliting a payment…

      • -1

I used one of these at Ikea once and asked to split my payment. The cashier let me but asked for ID (as if that proves anything). Anyway, trying to use more than one of these cards at a time will likely attract suspicion from cashiers and store staff.

  • -4

So this can be used anywhere ? As its an epftos card ?

    • +4

      "spend anywhere EFTPOS is accepted."

All you had to do was read the first sentence, man.

      • -1

Actually i was typing this up from work on my phone, so was in a hurry. Thanks anyways.

  • +3

If you cannot use WISH to pay for it for 5% discount nor AMEX for points due to cash advance charge like some say, you save $4 and are stuck with spending $10 at woolies which may be more expensive than other shops anyway :(

  • When do these expire?

  • No risk of becoming an unsecured creditor??

  • +5

Why does this have so many votes? It's a "saving" of $4.05 packaged with hassle. Plus, Woolworths. What am I missing?

    • +2

      You've been around since 2009.

You should understand that the more versatile a deal is, the more likely it is to receive upvotes.

Upvotes is not purely about how much you save in absolute terms. If it were, deals on 10% discounted business class should get a higher number of upvotes due to the amount you'd save in absolute dollars. They don't, because there isn't that much demand for that sort of service/product here.

A good example I can think of is back in the day when Coles/Woolies used to do fuel voucher discount battles (Spend $80 in store and get a 20c/L coupon!). Depending on how much you fill up, they would probably be likely to save you a similar amount (~$4-6) in real dollars, but they often received a high number of upvotes due to how many people it appeals to as many people drive and need to fill up anyway.

In economic terms, the more inelastic the product/service is, the more likely it is to receive upvotes.

I think when you link this back to this deal, it should explain why it has received so many upvotes. You can use EFTPOS at pretty much anywhere except cheap takeaways, so it is an extremely flexible/versatile deal.

    • +2

i think a lot of people voted when it was a $10 saving, ie 10% discount off your spending

$4.05 is less attractive, especially given the cashback comes as woolworths dollars.

    • +2

Clearly you don't see the application of this deal. It's a profit of $4.05 every time you buy another EFTPOS card using the previous EFTPOS card.

      • Plus 2% ING cashback or 3 Amex reward points (still to be confirmed)

      • that's interesting. i wonder if it will work

  • If this is tied to your Woolworths Rewards card, can't they limit how many you can get?

    • +3

It depends the promotion, some promo only limit one per card but some not.

I bought 100+ cards in last promotion and earn $1000+ WWS dollars

      • Which promotion are you referring to?

  • Stupid question possibly- I know this can't be paid with wish gift cards: so presumably e-gift cards won't work either?

    • That would be logical.

      • Actually I managed to buy 3 cards with e gift cards through self check-out!

        • Good work. I thought wish cards would work by most people disagreed.

        • And you got the WW rewards on each?

        • @aryan12:
Sure did! Had $30 WW dollars from the transaction.

        • @Craze: nice!! Did you have to go service desk or gift card section to find the cards? I couldn't see any amongst the gift cards

        • @aryan12:
Gift card section. Noticed that the $50 is more widely available compared to $100, unless they've been all OzBargained. I tried asking at one store but the girl said if it's not among the gift card section they wouldn't have any. Good luck!
