Best Prepaid Service for 'Parking' a Mobile Number?

Moving to live overseas in a few weeks and want to move my mobile number to a prepaid service with long expiry so I can keep the number when I eventually return.

Currently with Optus on a postpaid plan but they want a $60 recharge every 12 months, hopefully looking for something a little cheaper.

Thanks in advance!

Aldi or Amaysim pay as you go, 365 days expiry.

You can buy an Aldi starter pack for $5.00 in store or online & it will stay active for 365 days without a recharge.
The minimum recharge is $15.00, which will then last another 365 days.
So all up it will cost $20.00 for 2 years, with $20.00 of included calls.

Port out and back again for another $5/yr

  • Also, Vodafone has 365 day expiry on a $10 recharge + $2 SIM (less when recharges are on sale). Possibly worth it if you want to alternate with ALDI/Amaysim.
I want the same from Optus to get access to Optus perks, which have OK deals from time to time.
