Cruise Ship to New Zealand

Hi all,

Travelling to NZ late December or early January, and thought it could be fun to go by cruise ship, then returning by flight. I've never booked a cruise ship before. Any suggestions for company's to look at, and how to get a good deal? I'd be travelling from Melbourne with family.

Thanks.

I don't think there are any NZ bound cruises from Melbourne you would have to leave from Sydney. That's an expensive time of year to cruise and most cruises do a round trip. Holland America do a couple of Sydney to NZ cruises. Try cruiseguru.com.au, they are always competitive.

    • Thanks. I've begun my search and realise cruises are no where near as frequent as I assumed they would be!

Seems I'd need to do the cruise as the return journey. Cruiseguru shows 9th Feb with princess cruises from Auckland to Melbourne.

Prices are a bit confusing. When I click 4 guests, it shows sold out, but when 2 guests it shows options, stating a price for guests 3 and 4 in "same stateroom". So I assume that means there are availability for 4 guests in the same room?

Prices for 4 look to be:
      interior $1636
      Ocean view $1956
      Balcony $2496

Seems to include food and most onboard costs, so possibly not too bad for a 4 day cruise?

      • Um. When I try to add two passengers to a booking for two for that cruise/period, it gives an error.

Did you mean the line 'Some also have pullman beds to accommodate 3rd and 4th passengers', or did you find a separate option for extra guests? Can't get the same pricing you have either, so there must be some option that you found (or you're not using Cruiseguru)..

        • Found in cruise guru, then I went to the princess cruises site for detail. Seems timing isn't going to work well unfortunately, so no cruise for us this year unless there are other cruises available that don't show on cruise guru.

        • If you can manage to get to Sydney, there's a 4 day one leaving to Auckland on the 11th of January with princess.

  • I did the Cruise last december, Wasnt to bad but you see so much more with a land based tour, With the Cruise you done see much apart from the land tours, with the Contiki I did approx 10 years ago it was so much better and you see so much more of both north and saount and many more Great memories… The Day Tours do take you around on the Bus / train to some nice places but you always seem to be traveling instead of enjoying..
