In Search for a Good Windows Laptop - Budget $1800

Hey Ozbargain world,

I'm in search for a good windows laptop , preferably a thin or closer to ultrabook form factor.

8GB ram minimum
SSD 256 , preferably 512
13/14inch screen size 15 as last resort
Spending between $1000-$1800
Best battery life I can get , perf. min 8 hrs
Definitely will be missing some specs, but go on.

My current daily driver:

MacBook Ret 12" 512gb

What I like?
FANLESS…Yes M5 processor- slower than icore, but =no noise !
Thin design
Bright display
and No I'm not fan-ing over the Apple.

Have been seriously considering for a while now: Would like to hear your +/-ve opinions.
Lenovo X1 Carbon Gen 4
Dell XPS 15 (Though worried about issues to do with coil whine etc- wouldnt stand it after using mcore imho)

The reason why this post exists is because I am on the verge of selling this unit. Looking forward to see what you guys come up with!

  • Dell just released the new 13" XPS so hoping the 15 will come soon.

I want similar spec but have up to 3K but I also want multiple Type C USB ports….. Three or four would be ideal.

    • thats right , well at least Ive seen , internationally they've released a new processor variant in the 13. In Australia yet though ? I def agree with all your points. Not fussed with spending more, as long as I get the above and value for money.

  • There's the Latitude 13 7370, but it's even more expensive than the XPS 13. You should be able to find much cheaper via Dell Outlet (which is basically the only way to get a reasonably priced Latitude)

It is lighter though and has an impressive array of ports.

    • The latitude hits all the spots spec wise hey, but the rrp price is wow. But of course "business focused"

    • What's your opinion on Dell's Customer Service?

      • I've only used Dell laptops in business setting, and didn't purchase any of them for personal use. I used to perform minor repairs on employees laptops in a quasi Level-1 support role.

I can't provide you any experiences as a consumer, sadly.

      • I got NBD on site warranty with my Dell now.
And it's been great, used the chat on the website and they sent a dude out the next day to fix it.

Mine came from the Dell outlet place.

        • What model Dell are you using ,Drew22?
