Help with Android Box's - New to This

Ok apologies in advance (newbie to this)
I currently use a chromecast on our main tv and pay for Netflix and presto.
So I have been hearing a lot about these android boxes eg. Mx4 box and how people don't pay for nextflix or Foxtel anymore and can get pretty much all to shows and movies they would see on these subscription services.
I mean I really only spend $12 a month on Netflix, so nothing that will break they bank if I keep it. But was keen to maybe give this box a go.
My on,y concern is that my kids use their iPad a lot for Netflix, so I can't see a way of getting around this I.e. Keeping my Netflix subscription - cause you can't set up your box to the tv and then get what your watching on your iPad can you ?
Would it be best just keeping Netflix subscription for the kids use on iPads, buy a box for the main theatre room tv for general viewing off that and ditch yhe chromecast ?
Sorry if I am making no sense ??!! Any help appreciated !

  • You can download the netflix app on the android box and use your netflix acc on your tv, kids can still use ipad at the same time if thats what you're asking?

    • I think that people are referring to Kodi to watch and stream stuff for free. I got an android tv box for that but a lot of things didnt work for my kodi (or maybe my internet was too slow) and im not a very techy person so i gave up and sold mine :( now i have nbn, would also love to have some tips on how people used theirs.

      • Yep OP is referring to one of those jailbroken devices that come preloaded with a lot of apps and modifications to get paid content for free.

Many of the cheaper boxes like MXQ lack the correct media licenses and won't be better than a $100+ branded product.

        • clear whats the latest and best jailbroken android tv box atm? im reading so many conflicting comments about the s805 SOC ones

      • Yeah I think he's talking about Kodi too. I'm not really techie and not sure how it works either, but I believe it relies on people to make the contents available and you're going to get less and less content over time due to penalties on copyright infringements. You can actually install Kodi on the desktop and test out the application before buying those android boxes though. The interface and channels you get are slightly different, but it's worth trying it.

  • There's an app called "Mobdro" with quite a few free streams. Can find it easily by searching on Google.

  • Legally or not?

  • Eeekk ok , i probably didn't word my post very well , it was more, like…..the kids prefer to watch their shows on their iPads , so if I get rid of Netflix subscription because I will usd the android box on our main Tv, how can they still watch their Netflix shows on their iPads ?

Keep netflix. I have gone down the same path but found that its now as simple as one thinks to stream or download content either legal or not anymore.

Just get a vpn and get access to usa netflix.

      • I'm thinking this is probably good advice. Just keep paying the $12 a month its really not that much in the end.

          Netflix killed the torrent star.

  • Pull out an old pc from somewhere.
Old HDMI output laptop would b ideal.
An elcheapo ssd will make it somewhat fast at boot.
    Install Kodi.
Youtube to keep updated with newest and best addons.

Purchase VPN for less geoblocking from the links.

Dont spend $ unless u need to.

  • I was wondering if these boxes were good with playing video files off an external HDD/usb?

I purchased a WDTV Live Media Player for my parents but it seemed to lack support for x264 MP4 videos and was looking for an easy, cheap and reliable option for them to play these files.

    Thanks
