  • WARNING - I bought two VPay cards $300/ea from my local Harvey Norman store on 2 separate cards today, did not receive email confirmation from Amex, got back home and noticed both transactions showing in my Amex online transaction statement as DOMAYNE AV/IT which is their furniture section next door… so I guess no $100 credits here :(

    • My references show: HARVEY NORMAN AV/IT SS CAMPBELLTOWN Yes I did received $100 email :)

      • My VPAY dockets clearly indicate HARVEY NORMAN as the merchant name and the AMEX customer copy for the transactions have a big HARVEY NORMAN logo at the top but then further down below show DOMAYNE AV/IT in the EFTPOS details… so I guess as the transactions have been processed as Domayne rather than Harvey Norman I won't get the $100 credits. Can't really complain with AMEX as the receipts show they are for VPAY cards that technically do not qualify for the promo, so I guess I need to suck it up!

Ended up using them to pay council rates and BTW as indicated earlier you need to register EACH VPAY card under a different email address - doh!

        • Which store did you go to? Was it on the list of participating stores on the AMEX offer?

        • There's no list of participating stores, only exclusions "Excludes Domayne, Harvey Norman Commercial Division, Harvey Norman Insurance Replacement Division, & Harvey Norman Security purchases".

So Domayne is excluded however I bought the VPay cards at Harvey Norman although they are obviously using next door's Domayne EFTPOS account (but with a big Harvey Norman logo prominently displayed at the top of the receipt…)

          @bauser99
My purchase at Harvey Norman receipt is showing "Domayne AV/IT" too.
I just called them and they are happy to do a manual credit if I don't get the automatic credit in 5 days. I was asked to call back in 5 days.

You will get your credit, just call them and tell them u shopped and harvey. They know about some terminals are showing Domayne at some Harvey stores.

          Just call in 5 days!

        • @sintro: great news, thank you :) BTW did you call the AMEX number at the back of your AMEX issued card?
I used an AMEX issued card for one transaction and a NAB issued card for the other one, I wonder if they could take care of both?!
Will ask anyway - thank you again for the suggestion, I was going to write this off to "OzBargain experience" ;)

        • +1

          @bauser99:
Yeah I called the LOCAL number at the back of my AMEX issued card. Didn't want to be charged for the 1300 number. ;P

Just ask AMEX about the NAB card, surely this is an amex promo so Amex will do the manual credit bank issued or not…?

Does anyone in Melbourne want to go halves on this? Looking for someone to help spend $150 towards my $300. We can split the cash back ($50 each). PM me.

    • may be 'tightarse' will be interested (pun intended) :)

  • +2

I went to Harvey Norman Melbourne city, they are not selling Vpay cards. Any pointers to the near by HN locations for Vpay cards please

    • +1

      HN Nunawading

  • Did an initial purchase of 3 vPay cards as suggested above (HN Oxley) and have received 3 confirmation emails for those cards.

Ordered the Coles Card online and did the initial load with one of the vPay cards.

If all goes well will get 4 supp cards for myself & wifes account and go for broke (actually will probably order supp cards anyway to take advantage of next time) !

  • For those purchasing in store using multiple cards, how many different amex cards did you use and have you had any issues/comments/eye rolls from staff? Planning to take my 5 cards to the store tomorrow but not sure how it's gonna go down :S

    • How did you get 5 cards? Are they all credit cards? Have been told that only allowed to have 2 credits cards and as many charge cards as you like…

      • Yes, they're all credit cards and I've accumulated them through bonus points sign up offers. Then there's supplementary cards as well (with different amex card numbers).

I'm pretty sure some people on here have 10+ cards. I once saw a lady purchasing Emporium gift cards when the Amex Shop Small offer was on and she had about 10 cards. It was painful watching the attendant put the transaction through one by one - took a good 20 min :D

        • +2

Go at a quiet time and they wont care. Like say 2pm on a weekday.

        • Do you know if emporium gift card still a valid purchase for this month amex shop small?

        • @fomal:

I just tried searching on the shop small map and it didn't come up. Maybe they've pulled out because they got hammered last year!

        • +1

          @fomal: no unfortunately

    • +1

I'm now on 20+ cards (lol yes I'm ridiculous)

Dude kinda knows me so was happy to help me. No eye rolls at all.

To be honest it just depends on who you get. However, my general tip is always to not be a dick.

      • 4 cards per amex. Do you have more than 2 amex amexes?

      • Whoa…that must be some kind of records. How's your credit rating?

About being a dick, never me…I just hope I don't a dick serving me.

  • thanks for sharing

  • There looks to be conflicting information here regarding the e-mail address. I've registered 3 cards with the same e-mail and received an e-mail for each one. However the purchased email only came from the last card signed up. Does that mean I did not get the $100 on the other 2 cards?

    • +1

If you tapped (PayWave) on the two that didn't receive the emails, that could be why. Otherwise I'd say sit tight for 5 days and see if the credit comes through. If not give AMEX a secure message/call.

      • Thanks, I'll sit and wait the 5 days and then give them a call.

Luckily I've got used to not using paywave unless its Visa/MC and under $100.

        • I tapped paywave and do received confirmation email.

  • If I sign up now for the 100 Cashback and I'm too late. Amex will let me know right? I don't want to sign up only to not get the 100 credit back :/

    • +1

Yes when you register you'll be notified if the offer is closed

  • Can you buy Coles reloadable Master card from store, activate it online and then reload $300 uisng Vpay card online?

  • Anyone not get an email confirmation but still receive the cash back?

My first purchase went through fine, got the email confirmation and cash back.
Second purchase however I did not get the email. I did receive the email to confirm the cards were registered to the promotion.

    • Me the same, still waiting.

      • Ahh finally it arrived on my back account.

  • @Overtime2000 Log into Amex portal and look for the offer saved to your card. Off to the right in green writing it will show if the offer has been consumed or not.

    • My one showing redeemed but no email received. Purchased item on Tuesday so I guess I will wait till Mon/Tue at least?

    • So is it safe to say that if after 2 days it still shows up as "Saved to card" that it has not been consumed?

Added: Confirmed with Amex that the offer was not consumed. So make sure to use a different e-mail address for each card!

      • I used same email address for all 6 cards (4 x Amex issued & 2 x bank). Same email address and all triggered once I registered the offer for each card with confirmation of purchase trigger to the one email address (just got it multiple times though). The purchase I made was 1 in-store purchase split across all the cards evenly. Previously I have done the same thing for other offers e.g Qantas and Dans cash-backs.

  • With the Vpay voucher….do you still pay\charged Visa fee for using to pay ATO\water\strata\council rates?

    • Yes!

      • What fee actually? I never know there's any fee for paying water/council rate with Visa/Master?

        • I guess it depends on the council… some could be free, mine charges 1% for credit card payments

  • +1

can you use the VPay card for paypal?

  • I had my purchases rejected by HN and they are processing a refund now. I also got the statement credit from AMEX…on both my cards

    • That works OK I guess? When I got refunded some of the out of stock items from Woolworths, I still got the cash back. Not sure, if it's refunded totally though, but I guess, it'd still work, as they'd appear as different transactions?

      • In shop small event, I purchased something and my whole order get refunded, Amex took back the cashback.

I think you'll be fine for partial refund, but not for full refund

        • I had a partial refund from the Woolworths deal and still got the credit. I also had a full refund from the HN deal, and still got the credit. When Amex took back your Shop Small credit, was it on an Amex issued card? Mine was an ANZ. So maybe they don't take credits back on bank issued cards.

        • @puffinfresh:
Yeah I'm not going to make any purchases until I get back my refund from HN and see what happens with the credit

        • @puffinfresh: Bank issued card. Commonwealth. They took it back :(

        • @fomal:
Damn. If I had thought about it at the time, I should have pulled out a different card, like a visa, to refund it to.

        • @puffinfresh: Can you do that return to different card?

        • @fomal: In store; I'm quite sure, yes.

    • Interesting, I am in the same boat. I got the statement credit too. day 4 no one notices..hmm.

  • Does this work also for supplementary AMEX cards? i.e. can I save the offer to both the primary card AND the supplementary card?

    • For us it did work. Make sure you register the offer for each specific card though. If it shows as valid on the card, then good to go. YMMV

    • It works provided the supplementary card has a different number. Some bank issued AMEX cards share the same number between primary and supplementary so you can only register those once!

  • I have read this whole thread but I am a bit confused about vpay vs prepaid visa. So does anyone know of any HN that actually sells the prepaid visa. Also apart from loading a Coles card what are some other ideas on how to spend BPay and how do you find out who accepts it

    • +1

vpay is a voucher with a number that looks like a credit card number. You can only use it online because you have to be able to type the number into the checkout.

(I'm not sure if physical terminals allow you to type in the card number manually any more, ever since they started using chips - but if they did, I have no idea whether they would accept a VPay voucher number. But I'm gonna go with "no".)

  • Just got a Samsung Galaxy S7 for $999 (HN had a flash sale Thu night for $998 but I just missed it. Thank God for Officeworks and price matching).

Minus $300 cashback using 3 cards so $699. Then salary sacrifice on top of that at the full invoice price = winning!

    • Dont forget TRS TOO!

      • Already on top of it! See response to @nightelves below.

  • btw… Gordon NSW Harvey Norman sells VPay.
Auburn NSW didn't (they told me to go down the road to Domayne).

    • So you could actually split it across 3 cards without them raising an eyebrow? That's awesome!

      • I think they've already been around the block a few times. When I asked if I could split it over multiple cards she just said "$300 on the first one?" LOL

        • Only thing you're missing with your saving is TRS. Awesome to know.

        • Can you reload VPay ?

        • @nightelves:

Doesn't matter. Salary Sacrifice gives you back the GST anyway, because it's considered a "business input" or something. So they will refund me the GST, and then take <tax rate> off the ex. GST price.

        • @dumkaze:

I have no idea. I assume not. To me the question sounds a bit like "can I reload my prepaid phone recharge voucher?"

  • How they reckon is Apple Product!!?!?!

  • +1

I used my $300 VPAY to buy $315 Everyday Rewards eGift card, used that to buy $300 JB Hifi gift cards with $15 left over.
Definitely a dick move to Harvey Norman but I don't feel bad, they don't sell the product I wanted but JB Hifi do.

    • How do you purchase $315 egift card, don't they normally come with $20/$50 increment?

      • You can purchase any amount you want online, go through the CashRewards site

  • What's the expiry for VPay vouchers?

    • It's 12 months.

  • +2

Ridiculous Harvey guys canceled my order

    "Thank you for your email.

Please be advised your order has been cancelled as we cannot facilitate it, your order has been refunded in full.

    Thank you,

    Michael Clarke | Online Security"

    Suck a d,

    • What does that mean? "We can not facilitate it"

    • I got the same "explaination" from the same dude. They never explain why it's not been approved

Hopefully my statement credit doesn't get deducted by AMEX

    • they tols you to suck a d ?

  • Went to HN trying to get 2 $300 gift cards:
Staff: I know what you are up to, let me check with the manager, we are told not to do it.
Staff: Manger said you can, but he will send your transaction details to AMEX, do you still want it ?

    Of course NO. Idiot !
This is Broadway HN in Sydney. Do not go there.

    • So they don't want money. What's wrong with them?

      • The idiot told me if you buy gift card and use elsewhere, the store will lose money. I have no interest to talk to this joker any more. Store to avoid for Amex deals.

        • -1

Why bother putting gift cards out in the first place? Hide em in his pants.

        • oops - it sounds like the party is over :(

        • Sounds like the store to avoid in general, what a w@nk3r!

      • I went there during lunch & there was more staff than customers.

    • +1

      They are just jealous !

    • Went to Broadway during lunch, asked nicely & was given the evil eye. Its as if I was going to steal something! 😒

    • Thanks for the heads up, was going to Broadway on Sunday.

    • What a dick! I don't understand the mentality… it's not like they're losing money.

Anyway, I would have bought them if I were you. They're just bluffing I reckon. I don't believe they have a process to manually send in transaction for review and someone at Amex to manually reverse the credit. They might have this for fraud detection but unlikely for this sort of thing.

      • I think HN will. They just need to send an email to Amex team, Amex team will forward the email to Marketing department to verify the transaction , then Marketing department will forward the info to the back office team to do the reversal.

    • Had the same experience at Broadway today, the lady informed me that I wouldn't be eligible for the $100 cashback I said that's fine. Received the emails straight away will let you know when I get the credit.

Side note, tried to buy an iPhone 7 today from this store (didn't mention AMEX) but they refused to sell it to me without buying extended warranty (price displayed was $1229), is this false advertising seeing as the $1229 price is unobtainable? I managed to get an iPhone 7 yesterday from another Harvey Norman without any issues.

      • you were able to buy gift cards today?

      • That mandatory extended warranty is definitely dodgy practices that should be reported to the ACCC…

    • So what happens if you were purchasing Christmas Gifts for two people and one card ran out? It's such a stupid way HN have handled this

Reality is you might have spent that money in their store in the future and purchased at a higher margin - why spoil a good incentive

  • I bought $100 and $200 gift cards on 1 Nov and got rejected. But today I check my transaction and I got charged anyway! And I got my $100 offer from Amex. HV customer service is closed so need to check on Monday.. argghs

  • +1

HN staffs are very rude, I went there and the guy asked me why don't I go to JB Hi fi and buy..are they crazy?

    • Which store did you go? Did they finally complete the transaction for u?

      • Broadway.. I now see others also having same view about that store.. No they didnt complete the transaction
