  • Thanks for that OP.

But I just did a quick search , I think we can get the exact same product from Kogan for $999 + Delivery, and it's Australian Model as well.

Would you mind explaining what's the difference between yours and Kogan's?

    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/samsung-galaxy-tabpro-s-128gb-c…

    Thanks

    • hey mate, they havent mentioned the exact model. Plus from what i have gathered, kogan sells imported stock, so its doesnt include any gst invoice and the warranty is given by kogan and not by samsung as its an imported ver

      • 2 Years Warranty and Unlocked?

      • Mate, I'm interested in this. Is this coming with 2 Years Samsung or Telestra warranty? And also unlocked?

        • yes.2 years samsung warrant. unlocked yes

    • +1

No this one from Kogan is not Australian stock and so also not the Australia model, it's coming shipped from Kogan in Hong Kong.

This is shown down further on the product page: "This Product is offered and supplied by Kogan HK Limited pursuant to the Terms and Conditions"

  • Boom boom boom. Sorry OP, I can't help myself. Nice spec and $ tho. Upvoted.

    • thx mate, cheers 8-)

    User here.

    Good windows core m 2 in 1.

Best screen out there but so-so keyboard.

Another issue is the device has power loss even in shutdown, like 5% for one day (12~24 hr). So far I have not found anyway to fix it.

  • Good price

The lack of ports is a bit of a bummer though

  • White one is discounted as Amazon right now.

    • thats wifi only

      • Fair enough.

Do you have any deals on wifi model?

  • i think these may have been superseded according to this https://www.engadget.com/2016/10/14/samsung-galaxy-tabpro-s-…

  • Is the $1000 price valid if paying by EFTPOS or is it only for physical cash?

    • you can pay by eftpos

      • Cheers, might drop in early next week

  • Worth noting it has only one USB port, and it's a Type C. It also can't be used while it's charging because that port is the charging port.

If you can afford a hundred or so extra, I would get the M3 version of SP4. You will lose the 4G and the keyboard won't be included, but it's a better screen, has a charging port that isn't USB, and comes with a nice pen.

    • You can get a USB-C to multi-port adaptor for less than $30 from ebay. Even the genuine OEM Apple USB-C to HDMI/USB-C/USB multipoort is $75

You can get the pen online for less than $70 as well

I own a Surface 3 and an SP3, and I concur with the SP4 though…with the student discount, the SP4 is a very competitive machine indeed.

Sounds a bit expensive but sure. I'd rather not have things dangling off the port especially if I'm using it on the go. Don't really want multi ports, all I want is an extra USB port. But I don't want a hub either, because that's going to dangle. Nothing is supporting the weight of the hub.

I'd recommend the SP4 over this. I've seen the M3 model for less than $1100. But I'd personally get the i5 model, which I've seen for less than $1200. If you're savvy and have 4 AMEX cards, you could get i5 SP4 from HN with a $400 discount, bringing it to around $800, which is even cheaper than this.

        • Agree.

I won't get this for myself, having both Surface 3 and an SP3 i7 for more demanding stuff.

But it will make a decent replacement for my family's Samsung Tab S, because they use it for skype and a little bit of email…

    • PS You can use the port while charging…USB-C multi-port adaptors can charge the device from the USB-C port (which is bi-directional) while retaining functionality on the USB-A and HDMI ports…

      • Out of the box? Because with SP4 you can.

Unless this adapter is included (and even then) no thanks.

        • Agreed. I sometimes feel it's a bit tedious to have multi-ports dangling out of my S3/SP3 (e.g. having to use a miniDP-HDMI dongle at work to connect it to the projector), and this device takes that hassle a step further

I frankly think the device is too Android tablet-esque.

That might be a plus for some (AMOLED screen, small charger with fast charging + light and thin), that said, I think it lacks few bits and pieces that I like on Windows tablet. Ports (Surface Pro needs more ports in my opinion, I hate relying on bluetooth mouse) and multiple angle kickstand is two of the things that I'd want. I am not sure why Wacom wasn't used, I wish they did.

Samsung closed its PC division fairly long time ago and from what I've been hearing, this device started as an Android device that changed into a Windows tablet. I think it shows. Whether you'd like or not, really depends on whether you'd want an Android tablet esque device or not imo.

      • True.

Though I think it will make a decent replacement for Mom's now-ageing Tab S 10.5.

The price isn't too far out from a high-end Android tablet or an ipad pro 9.7

Windows 10 can make the icons and text fairly large, and they won't need to whip out their reading glasses…Mom and Dad use that tablet for skype, a little bit of email and some Office, and I doubt they'd be bothered by the lack of ports…they have a laptop which only gets fired up when Dad wants to type something long for official correspondence…

Hmmm, I don't know, I never liked Windows 10 as a tablet OS (coming as a Surface Pro 3 owner).

How certain applications still do not play well with Hi-DPI settings and how Windows fail with power management always were my two big irks with those.

I guess it'd be possible to set everything up for your parents, like how you said though.
Though AMOLED with Windows, just be weary of burn-ins.

        • @Oversimplified:

          Thanks for the heads-up, noted :) (Burn-in)

I also think Windows isn't finger friendly….it works well with the surface pen, but a lot of stuff simply isn't designed to be prodded around with fingers…

        • +1

@twister292: Agreed on that end. Their virtual keyboard is atrociously bad and I never liked using it just using hand because UI is still fairly small for my fat fingers.

I personally think they should've seperated the two UIs seperately, the touch friendly UI is bad for keyboard and mouse and keyboard and mouse friendly one is bad for touchscreen.

      • It's a 2-in-1 not a laptop. You can't expect ports galore on this thing.

The design of the cover case for standing up is better on your lap than the SP's kickstand. One gripe I have with SP series is that the kickstand and keyboard cover were designed for table use, not lap use. SP is not a good laptop replacement, and not good on the go.

The TabPro S cover will give you a flat base so it can rest better on your lap.

I'm not really sure what other parallels you're seeing to Android. Its form factor is like any tablet including iPad. That's going to mean minimal ports.

I would love an OLED screen on my laptop of monitor, but they just don't make them.

And Windows is no more susceptible to burn-in than any other OS if you ask me.

        • All 2 in 1s I know at least has a port for charging and a USB port, the only devices that have one port that does everything are Android and iOS tablets (and that stupid laptop that I think was bloody stupid). It might be fine for those because you don't use much peripherals with those, but on Windows, people tend to use a lot more peripherals (monitor/projector etc, keyboard and mouse, portable HDD and USB flash drive, and more). I don't disagree that its form factor is impressive, but the things that this device have given up for the form factor are the things that most people want with their laptops. That trade off makes it very Android tablet esque in my opinion, thin but not expandable (without dongles) device.

The problem with TabPro's design is, you cannot adjust the angle of the screen much (which again is very common in Android tablets + keyboard covers type accessory). Surface Pro 1 for example had a lot of criticisms on that. I personally think they should've made the angle adjustable.

A lot of 2 in 1 devices do include kickstand onto the device. It does cause issues like what you've said (usage on lap), but I do like that design more because it allows the device to be used without the keyboard directly attached to it (i.e. with bluetooth keyboard for a smaller desk).

Touchwiz does try to compensate for burn ins, for example icons on the status bar move around few pixels etc etc. Taskbar does take up larger proportion of the screen than status bar. Internet browsers have all the address bar and they stay there through your usage, a lot of UI elements of programs on Windows tend to stay at a certain place. You can change UI to darker themed ones and hide them etc, so you should + don't use them like you'd use normal laptop to stop certain areas burning in more.

        • @Oversimplified:

It includes a type cover with a track pad, so you don't need a port for the keyboard. Mouse support is via touch screen or track pad. You want to actually be using a mouse while on the train?

Most people have to be prepared to make compromises when using a device on the go. On a desk, sure. But if it's a mobile device primarily you're not going to be using a lot of peripherals.

I think what you're after is a laptop. Anything that is a hybrid is going to have compromises on both ends.

All of the things you've said that you want are suited for desk use and not lap use. e.g. you don't want to have portable HDDs connected when the thing is on your lap, nor would you be using a mouse. In this case, I would suggest an Ultrabook.

Or if you don't mind compromising power and going with an Atom, you get something like this or this. The keyboards they come with will rest on your lap, and the angle of the screen should be fully adjustable. You would use it like a laptop or ultrabook. I don't know if it will have enough ports though. To be honest, I haven't seen a 2-in-1 with more than 1 USB port.

My complaint with this Tab Pro S is the same complaint that you share: That it charges using its sole USB port and you need a hub if you want to use USB and charge at the same time. Others charge on a different port, though you still only have one USB port which isn't enough. But like I said.. compromises.

        • @lostn:

Something like the Lenovo Miix still has 2 USBs and a micro-HDMI…the issue is, the single USB-C port makes plugging in even a USB drive a messy exercise (dongle/OTG adapter needed)
