By the time I wake up tomorrow I'm wondering if I see more than 50+ negs

  • +4

    Jeez. So much hatred here
Personally I never had any problem with Gearbest

I would say their Customer Service is one of the best
Bought a Smart Tracker which was a faulty. And send them 1 email. They asked pictures for proof. Sent it. And they send a replacement. No hassle at all

Good on you Sunny and Gearbest team by participating in OzBargain 10

And for all who neg. Mod has responded to your concern. No need to full this thread with the all same reason

  • +3

    Yeah, I'm negging this deal.

    Raspberry Pi 3 currently discounted from $135 to $49. That's a Gearworst.

    • +2

No one complained about the RRP when they did a deal for $44.95 last month? Moreover this deal is about 20 of them will be discounted to USD$10 so I don't see how your comment is relevant.

      • I also understand mentioning RRP is an invalid negative vote

  • -2

This is the sot of no-stock/low-stock clickbait garbage shite that should get GearBest banned from here for once and all. Their a complete joke of a company.

  • +2

I don't get it, so given the quantity of 1 is too low, rep has to take it down? come on, taking that down serves no one, at least someone who's lucky enough will get it. Everybody else can buy the other stuff with sufficient quantities. Don't worry about the hatred Sunny, and for those who are on the fence, I've dealt with Sunny and it's as easy as it gets and you definitely get priority treatment as an Ozbargainer.

  • +15

I like that you're being upfront about the quantities. I think it's right that the items with only a few available were removed from the title.

However, I think it would have been better to pick up to a few things that people are really interested in, possibly some cheap ones instead of the phones and things, and offer 100 or more of each and not have any of the very limited quantity items.

For example, the Mi Band 2, the Mr Bean bear, the Xiaomi earphones, The Raspberry Pi all seem pretty popular. I'm not sure about the other items and I don't know about your budget, but picking 2-3 and having an awesome discount (like the ones you have above) on 300 would be awesome. Maybe one per day, posted as a separate deal.

People would have a much more positive experience. The recent Click Frenzy and past Catch of the Day sales have lead to disappointment for many. You might get more site traffic this way, but I think you'll have more happy customers if you set it up in a way that gives people a chance to get great deals.

Thanks for your deals anyway. At least they are great prices and by specifying the quantities people can decide for themselves if they want to participate.

    • +4

Agree, a better way would be to offer a more realistic discount with a larger number of stock.

It would be nicer if you had a larger number of happy customers voicing their joy, rather than a larger number of customers voicing their disappointment. A client experience be it negative or positive will disseminate naturally.

    • I actually logged in to upvote you for one of the most level-headed responses here and not having to resort to cherry picking a couple items here and there to get rid of the entire posting.

  • +3

To be honest, you guys act like spoilt brats. I personally haven't had an issue with them, even their quantity seems fine if we can keep it just limited to ozbargain.

  • +16

Really don't think there is a need to neg, I've been at the wrong end of these sales before, but some people have scored great bargains from these deals.

Regarding the 'limited quantity' issue, I agree with scotty that we should consider the phones as a bonus. If only items with >10 quantity were included and the limited quantity items were posted in a competition instead, would this post have got negged? I prefer that they included this here in the deal as I rarely browse the comp section.

Take a previous deal for Apple TV with 100 available for example, it sold out in 5 minutes, most missed out, but 72 upvotes and 0 negs.

I also posted a previous Mi Band deal which sold out in 5 minutes since we were competing against over 900 French Bargainers, where are my negs?

I consider these items bargains in this gearbest deal:
    20x Raspberry Pi
    20x Nitecore MT2A
    20x Scishion Box
    30x xiaomi earphones
    50x samsung SD cards
and like 20 other items if you add up the limited quantity items
    so total around ~160 bargains

Unlike the COTD 100 Apple TV deal where it was visible to the general public, or the Mi Band deal where it was posted on various overseas bargain sites, this is an ozbargain exclusive deal, so coupons will be revealed here, in total around 160 people would've scored a real bargain, which I don't think is worth a neg.

      • +10

Yeah mob mentality is strong here, usually as soon as the first neg hits many will follow.

Anyways since I cant edit my post anymore, one suggestion I do have for these ozbargain exclusive limited quantity sales is to post them a 1-2 hours before they start (not 2 days in the case of this deal). In the next two days, I have a feeling that someone from the UK/France/Germany will visit ozbargain and repost it on their respective bargain sites with a link to ozbargain where the coupon codes will become available. Or even make sure the sale is IP-locked to Australia.

    • +1

Competition for the lower stocked items, would also be a preferable approach (they're basically give it away already). The customer is taking a chance, but doesn't have false hopes. In turn not impacting your customer experience, and still promoting the site.

  • +8

OzBargain and Gearbest in bed together?

    • +2

you are supposed to know, SPY.

    • +2

Shhhhh. Just don't tell the 70+ others that also want to be in bed with us for OzBargain's 10th birthday celebration tomorrow.

      • +1

The polygamous OzBargain. Many partners but none to be faithful.

        • +3

That's an inappropriate insult to many merchants who have been part of this community over the years. Then again, consumers & merchants are the two sides of this relationship, both want to get the most out and ready to jump ship when a more profitable alternate is available. OzBargain is merely the bridge to do so…

  • +8

Ok. So long as an item, in a list of many items has more than 10, then it's all good. Might as well be 100 boxes of tissues then …

Personally I have no interest in the phones, but just concerned the way they manage the checkout process. Which could result in many unsuspecting customers being charged full price, with no intention to purchase at that price. Stocking 1 across many items across different times is just setting them self up to catch as many as possible.

Whether it's intended or not, I would doubt. Still that doesn't avoid the circumstances which are being laid out now.

  • +2

I'm gonna reserve my vote for now. Can people actually prove that if you don't get the stock in time it will continue the checkout at full price? If that's true then I agree with all the negs, but otherwise this deal is fine IMO.

People complained about not knowing how many products were available for ClickFrenzy and here it's clearly listed so if you want to participate you can. No retailer is going to list 10 phones for $10 and make a loss because they have no debt to Ozbargain. Personally I'd prefer a competition-like system like this over many of the birthday deals that will be popping up, such as 10% off ridiculous RRP products or an extra .5% Cashrewards.

  • +5

Sorry, got to agree with the others about the quantities.
At these costs with very little availability, it is more like the store is giving away the goods - so its more of a competition than a deal.

  • +4

Neg for me, have had bad experiences with Gearbest in the past

  • +8

My first ever NEG incoming - the quantities on too many of these items are ridiculous.

The rationale for allowing it being that the items in the title are of sufficient quantity. So on that basis, it would seem that posters could pretty much put whatever they want in the remainder of the deal as long as the 'deal' title was within requirements.

What would be moderators opinions if they had posted that there "might be 1 iPhone 7plus 256GB available at $10"? Would this still be acceptable if it wasn't mentioned in the title but was prominent in the body of the post?

Where do we draw the line. This stinks of bait tactics to me.

  • +10

The title originally had $10 phones in it and that's why it has made it to the front page. Once it gets to the front page gearbest have already achieved what they wanted. If it didn't have $10 phones in the title post would've been buried and no one would've known

I reckon this deal should be deleted and reposted again as a new deal with the correct title, products and sufficient quantities. This way we'll see if it really deserves to be on the front page.

    • +6

Agree - delete this offer, provide a warning and suggest a repost without quantities of 1.

    • +2

Wow never knew about the original title, but I think gearbest now realises that it was a bad move, and hopefully learn from it in the future.

If it didn't have $10 phones in the title post would've been buried and no one would've known. I reckon this deal should be deleted and reposted again as a new deal with the correct title, products and sufficient quantities. This way we'll see if it really deserves to be on the front page.

I still think this post would've easily made the front page easily with '50x $10 64GB Samsung SD cards' as a title instead of the phones. Don't think theres a point in deleting a post now with lots of discussion already, but I do think that mod should issue a warning.

      • There might have been some confusion, the title literally said "$10 Cellphones" and in the description OP has 11 in total.

    • +1

Agree, the phone quantity must be more than 10 to be in the title description.

Otherwise, some Reps can always offer one thing great and hundreds of craps to post the deal.

    • Yep, this is correct unfortunately. Those of us getting downvoted to hell for comments about it being clickbait and no-stock/low-stock obviously had no clue what the original advertised title of the thread was & why this shambles of a bargain post was so heavily criticized.

  • +4

At these quantities, it looks more like a competition than a sale.

  • WHat is the difference between a Chinese and an English Raspberry Pi?

    • Just made in different factories

    • +2

The Chinese raspberries have been sprayed with any number of banned chemicals

  • +3

Insufficient quantities, and good luck on getting your stuff even if you're one of the lucky ones.

  • +5

well I hope all these neggers don't try to buy anything so more stock is available for the rest. I agree that I would prefer to have these things at higher price that would still make them a profit, and have more available (say 300+). I can't muck around with these stuff during work hours so I won't be trying to buy anything, but it is definitely a deal for those who can get them.

  • Take a plus for the effort.

Should I bother trying to get one of the Samsung 64GB microSD cards?

  • +5

    Gearbest! No thanks.

  • +12

Woah, holy dividing deal post Batman!

If only GB had approached the singular items on a competition basis or some such, rather than just a case of: let's see who has the fastest connection, or is the best at script writing.

I think if those single $10 bargains were sold in a different way, we'd have a different outcome on the vote count on here. With Click Frenzy and the recent COTD sale in everyone's mind though, it was never gonna end well.

GB have 2 days to change the sale if they want to. Let's see what happens.

    • +11

Yeah agree fully, it's not a good idea to make a $200 loss on a phone just to make 1 person happy, while wasting the time of the other 41240 people who were trying also to get in first. They could have just sold 50 phones at around a break even price, and made many more people happy.

      • +5

Or even some form of give away - based on member number, or guess a number from 1-500, etc etc.

If you're gonna have such a loss on the phones, may as well give them away and make friends, than limit it to such a minority and make enemies of the rest.

  • +1

Wouldn't it be better if the deal had reasonable discount + sufficient quantity, than this impossible bait "deal"? I am sure GB could come up with a better, win/win deal where they don't lose money, and OzBargainers will score bargain at reasonable prices.

  • The big issue is the delivery time. You'll be lucky to get it under 1 month.

  • +2

Dont know why so many neg.
So I will impulsively just mindlessly follow others like a sheep by negging the deal as well

  • Chinese version of CatchOfTheday

    • +1

lol. thought it was Chinese version of late Dick Smith electronics.

  • how does It work in terms of "first in best dress"?
first to basket, or first to checkout.
    .

    • +4

Having gearbest skirt around the rules with the blessing of Scotty is quite disconcerting, it's obviously damaging the forum and being stubborn posting the same "it's within the rules" quote is not helping.

      • +2

I agree 100%. Not a good look mods.

      • Yes, gearbest originally skirted around the rules by putting '$10 phones' in the title, but mods ended up editing it out of the title. Maybe mods should've removed the post instead and requested for gearbest to repost it with without a clickbait title, but there was already lots of discussion about the deal/gearbest as a retailer, so I don't think there was a point removing it.

  • +5

OP has admitted it's a competition.

    • +3

Competition on who can click through the fastest and send payment.
I can't imagine the items with qty > 10 draw people into this promo.
It's only the < 10 which brings visitors to gearbest, all the other items are somewhat meh

Should separate the < 10 and mark it as a competition.

      • I can't imagine the items with qty > 10 draw people into this promo.

50x 64GB Samsung SD card for $10 certainly draws me in, as well as the 30x Mi Band 2, 20x Raspberri Pi, 30x Piston Hybrids and many other items.

  • +5

Low quants = not really a bargain

    • I consider the 50x 64GB Samsung SD cards, 30x Mi Band 2, 20x Raspberri Pi, 30x Piston Hybrids all bargains, will probably sell out quickly, but enough quantity to post as a deal.

  • +7

This isn't a bargain, its baiting with minimum stock. Some items have a quantity of 1, really? -.-

  • reminds me of the "snap up deals" banggood has..

    you get nothing

  • Will it be one per customer? Other then the 4 phones..

  • +4

This is the most pointless "deal" I''ve ever seen on the front page. I agree with others that only the watch and Mr Bean bear come close to being anything other than a competition.

  • +3

Hey OP, this $10 deal on smartphones with only one stock up for grabs is ridiculous!. Instead, why don't you just give it away for free as a some sort of a raffle draw all exclusive for ozbargain members only or perhaps may be put up a one off special event discount code (similar to clickfrenzy event) like 10% or 10 USD off or something for these phones.

  • +7

Dear Gearbest rep, this is ozbargain. We are based in Australia. Make your prices $10 AUD

    • I think it is because they sell in USD. Setting price to A$10 may not be possible as the price is calculated based on conversion rate at the time of checkout which varies. Just guessing.

  • +2

I'm reserving my neg. When I miss out on every item, which I very much assume will happen, then prepare for my neg fury.

  • Does 21/11 12pm means 21/11 midnight (21/11 00:00)? There is 24-hour system in my country, so I do not know.

    • +1

If only the world could have agreed on a single standard for simple things like time, metrics, power sockets etc.

To answer your question it is 12 midday, not in the midnight.

  • As Scotty mentioned, this deal is not dissimilar to a post regarding clearance items in that while there are some amazing prices to be had quantity may be extremely low. However, as members have suggested, this deal is like a competition in that the quantity attaches to the deal price instead of the actual number of units left.

  • +3

@Rep, make sure all orders are shipped within 24 hours and not after 24 days or 24 weeks.

  • +6

This has to be one of the worst deals on OzBargain 2k16.

  • +2

Negging due to bad experience from past purchase. They sent me to my previous address although I clearly gave them the new address while purchasing. When I didn't get the item after 2 months, I contacted them. After going back and forth few times, they decided to refund me the amount minus postage which was almost half the amount.
Also, I really think this deal is a competition according to the available quantities.

  • +1

Op please confirm what will happen when you have hundred people going for the $10 phone added to cart and proceed to check out, what price will the other 99 people be charged at and will they be able to see this in the checkout?

  • Redeem yourself GearBest, throw in some some legitimate high-stock Xiaomi deals! :)

I would recommend Mi Band 2 for US$23-24, alongside a few power bank deals.

  • +3

Quantities are not enough. Not even going to waste my time trying to put stuff into shopping cart.. 1 x phone should not even be mentoned.. not enough to Qualify as a deal..

  • +6

Recently I started receiving spam email on an email address only used at gearbest

    For example
    https://i.imgur.com/zhtmPOI.png

    • +3

Woah what the hell! This should have gotten more upvotes than it has.

    • -8

Congrats. What has that got to do with anything?

      • +4

That Gearbest have been relaxed with their security and their subscription list (at a minimum) made it into the hands or spammers. Or they are selling/giving the details to spammer or partners that are then passing it on.

Some people care about these things, some don't. take of it what you will.

        • +2

I'm assuming that you would also need to provide your email address to even have a chance to purchase one of these deals as well I guess.

It might be a safe option to use a disposable or certainly non-primary email if you want to enter the lottery to have a chance to possibly buy one of these items at what might be a low price when you finally receive the receipt.

          Better safe than sorry.

      • -1

It means GearScam are selling our personal information to third parties without our consent or knowledge. But that's apparently OK, because Scotty got paid enough under the table to ignore that & all the other dodgy business practices from these shiesters.

  • +6

Wow, I negged the deal pointing out it's like a give-away competition. 30secs later mod removed my comment and revoked my neg. Is this the beginning of the community sell out?

The mod who did it, at least show youself and state a valid reason?

    • No, I'm actually subscribed to this thread, so am getting alerted to comments, hence seeing it quickly. Your comment was only removed because the negative vote was against the community guidelines. If the vote had not been placed, with the comment purely for discussion, then there would have been no issue with the comment. Equally, if you had provided reasoning within said guidelines, there would have been no issue with the negative vote.

Please familiarise yourself with the voting guidelines.

On the other hand, I will be making contact with GearBest on Monday to suggest they come up with a solution addressing users concerns regarding this deal. It is not a good look for OzBargain as a whole. There are some simple changes that could be made on their part to remedy a number of issues.

Also of note is that there are simply no throwbacks for OzBargain from this, and to suggest so is ludicrous. There is no selling out of the community going on here, we are simply attempting to enforce the same guidelines that users, moderators, and store reps are bound by.

      • +5

Lol, look at the comment session. My neg is no difference than all the others'. We all know how stupid this so call "deal" looks. However, you can twist it the way you like. You are destroying the trust that took long time to build. It's something that I can't control nor would I waste time trying to.

        • +2

Not going to argue about it mate, it's not worth it. I agree, the deal may not look great (Especially with how GB is perceived, and they only have themselves to blame for that), however without the 1 or 2 quantity items could have been really one sided positive. That is on GearBest. The ball is in their court as to how they want to proceed and whether they want to change anything or not.

  • +2

Terrible idea, this is not what made oz margin great.

    • +1

The margain for error in this comment was high ;)

  • Calling it now, there'll be more than one user claiming to have gotten the Asus Zenphone.

    • +2

Calling it now …. possibly with a OzB signup date in November 2016 and claiming it as their first post?

  • +4

Why is this even still on the front page?

    • Because Scotty and Neil say this whole gearbest saga is within the rules, read the thread ;)

        Sigh.

It will be removed from the front page when it's either pushed down to the second page due to the time it was posted, or if the positive to negative ratio bring it below the front page threshold.

      • What is this magic ratio? It's currently above 1:4?

        • If the difference between positive and negative is less than default (25) it will no longer show.

@neil: While im picking up your aggressive tone, I'm not sure the FAQ really answered my question. Thanks for taking the time to link though

        • @jackary:

The FAQ I linked to you expands on what shaw said above:

What is the difference between the front page and the new deals page?

The new deals page has all the latest deals that have been submitted by users. They are displayed in order from most recently published. >However, when a deal becomes popular (reaches a threshold based of votes), it is moved to the Front page. The number of positive votes to push a deal to the front page changes based on the sites popularity and other factors but by default it is 25 votes.

          So if it's 30 + / 20 - then that's a net of 10 votes (no front page). If it is 30 + / 5 -, then that's a net of 25 (front page).

          @neil: Thankyou

        • @Shaw:

          Wasn't the threshold 20?

          When was that changed?

          @Scrooge McDuck:

Yeah it was changed earlier this year
