New Laptop around $500

Hi Guys,

Looking for some opinions on a cheap laptop for my in-laws.
Requirements are that it must have a built in dvd drive.
Other than that…size about 14 to 15 inch.
Will primarily be used for word processing, emails, web browsing.

Im currently looking at

So which is better?
a Intel Pentium N3710 1.6GHz and 8GB ram or Intel Core i3 and 4GB ram?

    The N3710 is a pretty slow CPU. It works, but it's a little slow when rendering pages in chrome etc. For the money, I'd get the i3 and put more ram in it.

      Wow didnt realise it was that bad. Will stick with Intel core chips.
      Are AMD A6 the same spec as Intel Core i3?

        I have an n3700 laptop and use it every day, I use the browser, and watch HD video, and can even use Adobe Lightroom if I'm patient - but for an extra $50 I'd upgrade for sure.
