Do you know if JB will be price matching/beating the games advertised by Target?

    • +4

I spoke with a games manager at my local jb and he said the same as above, that they are competing with the black friday sales and will have comparable deals on all games. He also said to the other staff that they had already been given permission to price match (price beat??) when the sales start.

      • +1

        Sweeet thanks for the information!

      • Does EB price match?

        • +16

I spoke to EB (canberra) and they immediately spun me a story that they are not price matching because target is only having the sale because they are getting out of gaming and so are clearing stock…. it seemed very rehearsed and a load of bull.

          @Ninjassmileinthedark:
I would report these clowns to EB HQ.

        • +2

          @Ninjassmileinthedark:

make them match JB then, let see what excuse they come up with

        • +3

          @Ninjassmileinthedark:
Not true, and I do enjoy the idea that Target would order more brand new games just to discount them due to clearance.
We are getting less games, but not closing the gaming department whatsoever.

        • +5

EB's price match comes with loads of hidden clauses:
          Not with the internet.
Or with other retailers too far away.
Or because it's more than 20% lower than their price.
Or because other retailers have sold out at the lower price.
Or because they bought all the stock and are charging $110 for a game.

        • +3

@High Score King: It does depend on the employee. The Highpoint EB is pretty awesome at price matching, barely any issues. The Moonee Ponds EB store is dreadful, probably the worst offender.

        • +1

@justmiike: I hear ya man. So many variables between stores. To avoid the will they/won't they scenario I just go where the price is advertised cheapest and buy from there.

        • @High Score King: I call them from now on, if they say we do, then it's on :)

        • @justmiike: Yeah that's cool, I guess. All you have to avoid is being sold someone else's ex-rental and being hassled to pre-order/trade n save/come to the next midnight launch.

  • +1

What are the Target and Big W sales? Are they on here somewhere?

  • -6

WOW gonna price match at EBGAMES on Friday!

  • really tempting at this price, might just skip the Pro………… (don't have a 4K TV anyway)

    • +1

Neither do I, but when I can get my hands on the Pro soon ($200 off thanks to MyRepublic offer), then the VR sometime next year… Oh yeah!

4K is over-rated anyway. HDR is much more important.

      • +5

My TV does not support HDR either lol, so I guess I will stick with the vanilla PS4………..

        • +2

All PS4s have HDR after the latest update (include the ones released 3 years ago) :)

      • +2

Whats the $200 off MyRepublic offer? Is it available to all?

      • Wow, get negged for… what?

        • +2

Don't worry mate, you get negged for breathing around here. Have a + :)

      • Any good discounts to stack on top of the $200 voucher?

  • Any discounted JB-HI gift cards l can purchase?

    • Bonus WW points
~10% off JB GCs, more if you factor in discounted Wish GCs

      • +1

Can you use multiple $100 gift cards ?

        • They are ultimate Kids GCs, seems like Woolies only got them in denominations of $30. So you'd need 10 of them to grab a PS4

        • @Redwood: are they 10% off at woolies?

        • @JoanJane: they are giving you WW points worth of around 10% off the value you purchased. Not precisely 10% off, but thats pretty much the idea

        • @Redwood: Oh okay. Thank you! Wanting to buy 10 gift cards today and use tomorrow at JB Hifi, only concern is if I will be able to score one. Also, can I use 10 GC in 1 transaction?

        • @JoanJane: You can use as many as you want in 1 transaction, but you'd have trouble purchasing the giftcards in one transaction.

        • @Redwood: Got the Ps4 today! Purchased 6x $50 kids GC and use all of them with an ID! Took me a while in the counter but all worth it! :) Thanks for the tip!

  • Is it worth $250 more for the PS4 pro ?

    • +2

vs $250 extra in games instead. I want the pro but this is so damm cheap lol hmm

      • Can you really tell the difference playing in a PS4 pro compared with a PS4?

    • +5

No and sometimes it's worse, but at least the pro's louder and uses more power

    • +3

cost me $21 to upgrade from ps4 launch console that was getting super loud and controller nubs cracking sold it for $450 on gumtree just before pro was announced and just got the ps4 pro for $479 with $7.9 cashback, might not of had console for a few months but no exclusives came out in that period so just played most stuff on pc.

      • +1

That is a great price for the pro.
Where did you buy it from?

    • Only if you have a 4k tv.

    • +1

Probably best to read some reviews, particularly those that break down the differences for a few titles. Even without the 4K TV you may see better frame rates or higher res (say 1080p vs 900p) on a specific title, but it's probably a very personal thing as to whether that's worth almost twice the price. For the immediate future you'll be able to play any game that the Pro can.

    • 4k yes 1080p no.

    • like what spedstyle said, something you might want to consider is the amount of noise the different PS4 consoles make under full load. My launch PS4 was SUPER loud, especially in the middle of summer when the fans were running at full speed all the time.

I downsized to the PS4 slim a couple of months ago and am so glad I did. There's really no noise at all when running mid-spec games on a cool day, and even under full load on a hot day it's nowhere near the jet engine noise of my original PS4.

My understanding of the new PS4 pro is that it's even noisier than the original when operating under full steam.

But if you have an air con unit nearby and don't mind the extra ambient noise, maybe none of this is a consideration for you.

      • When I had a launch ps4 i recall it getting jet engine loud also and at least three other people I know with launch ps4s have the same issue. I ended up selling that one and getting the updated revision of the regular ps4, which had slightly better cooling and physical power/eject buttons. I've had it for just as long as my original and have yet to encounter the noise again :)

Heh.. maybe they'll release a revised model of the Pro eventually to address the same problem? :P

  • +30

and here we still have EB Games asking you to trade in your old PS4, 20 games and your kidney plus give them $300.00 to upgrade to the new model. smh.

    • +8

And people on gumtree selling 2 years old PS4 for $350

  • +8

Will Harvey Norman price match this? I would really like to use the $100 AMEX cashback offer for it :)

    • They wouldn't match the Big W Xbox one deal for me, I don't like the chances

      • "Our Shop With Confidence Price Match Guarantee means
we match any genuine competitor’s advertised price!

        How do I claim?

Simply show us evidence of our competitor’s advertised price for the identical product advertised 7 days after your purchase. Once we verify the price is genuine (inclusive of delivery or installation costs) and the product is ready for immediate delivery, we will happily match or refund the difference to you.

        What are the exclusions?

Competitors that do not operate multi-store omnichannel retail operations
Conditional offers, such as package deals, cash back, bonus, bulk purchase or limited quantity
Trade, special event, club or membership offers, or prices not available to the general public
Clearance, seconds or refurbished lines, or ex demonstration or display offers
Offers by any resellers, classifieds, auction sites, manufacturers, distributors or importers
Offers that require delivery from an overseas based distributor direct to the customer
Advertising errors (either ours or competitors)"

could have argued that their refusal to price match is inconsistent with their advertised position on their website

        • Yeah getting Harvey Norman to price match is a struggle. Eg games and jbhifi have always been more than happy

        • @cheesecactus:

Depends which HN, some are fantastic.

    • At $299 it isn't great, but at $200 it is. If HN doesn't match I'm not buying.

    • +2

I am thinking the same, based on T&C, they should be able to price match, maybe try to go to different stores?

    • +1

I managed to get my local Harvey Norman (gepps Cross Adelaide) to price match this deal and get BF1 matched as well. Posted it separately with my receipt (not sure how to link to that post). Suggest try your local HN store with the receipt.

  • +2

    Great deal.

Worth mentioning that JB Hi-Fi also offer a PS4 1TB Slim bundle with CoD 4: Modern Warfare Remastered and CoD: Infinite Warfare for $399 for those who were planning to buy the CoD games anyway (or for those who want to upgrade to the 1TB console and sell on the CoD downloadable game codes).

    • +1

People still play CoD? Top kek

  • +1

What about an Xbox1 deal at JB?

  • +5

Would like to see a PS4 pro deal.

  • +7

EB Games are flat out thieves and liars. Wouldn't give them a cent. You either price match or you don't. They're ridiculously overpriced anyway yet always seem to have an excuse as to why they can't match good deals. They're lying about target by the way.

    • +1

bought few games from their website. advertised as new, came shipped in crappy condition, clearly an ex display item. Why does the consumer association do not take any action against these group of buggers ? At least, if it is unsealed, please send a "brand new look" copy game to us !

  • any Pokemon sun deal below $46?

  • Is it best to buy now or post around Boxing Day? I'm so undecided. 😕

    • +7

      Last years Boxing Day sucked

    • +2

I can't imagine a lot of these consoles getting cheaper by boxing day. If anything they'll be the same. I'd personally say try now and if stock runs out, have a probable second chance on boxing day :)

    • +5

I question this too. But I'd rather be playing ps4 on boxing day, instead of updating it lol

      • And considering there's over a month to go, that's a lot of gaming time. Yep, I think I'll buy it this Fridi.

        • Fridi isnt for sale, she is a human being not a spicy meat to be good ol' rubbed, hehehe boii…

    • I'd just buy now. The price is good and it's a relatively new upgrade so I wouldn't expect huge price drops.

  • I just wanted to give the 100th vote.

  • Will wait for someone who chucked their old PS4 on gumtree =p

  • +1

Anyone know if 3 months of STAN is included? Would pay an extra $10 at target for STAN imo.

    • +1

      Stan subscription is $10/month

      • +2

and if you lurk on Ozbargain long enough, a free 3 month code will come up.

And also.. just sign up 3x gmail accounts and do 1 month trials?

      • Did not know that - cheers!

  • +9

Was all set on PS4 Pro + VR but now not so sure. No 4k TV (my FHD 55" tcl panel looks the dog's nuts, got it for sub $600, and stoked with it), hearing less and less buzz about VR (it's like the early 90's all over again) and I'm still finding unexpectedly awesome (used) PS3 games for $5 or $6. Just finished Rage, The Evil Within and got a few hours into Singularity, which is like some sort of BioShock clone and friggin' awesome.

Man, by the time I make my mind up it will be PS5 o'clock.

    • I hear ya brother.

    • My Ps3 backlog will probably keep me from buying the ps4 and ps5.

      • I hear ya. It will be another 10 years before my PS3 games are done. But… VR!

  • Is it worth getting extended warranty for the ps4?

    • +1

You do have 2 years consumer law warranty. So no.
2 years later if anything goes wrong, get the Pro.

      • Does it specifically say only 2 years for a ps4 console? I remember reading somewhere that the product is supposed to last for a 'reasonable amount of time'.

  • Hi guys,

I still have a POS3 that i bought years ago. Don't play much now bought it only for GTA and DMC. I am confused as to whether I should grab this deal or stop playing games. Any good games out there? And is 500gb enough?

    • Hey mate, yes I would recommend the upgrade, especially at this price.

Plenty of cheap, good games can be had during the various Christmas & black Friday sales that are coming up, plus remasters of some old titles that are more than worth a replay.

In terms of size, personally 500gb is plenty, but it all comes down to how much you game/intend to play, at the end of the day the hard drive can always be changed over in the future for a larger one.

    • GTA V is good, The Last Of Us is good too.

Whether you keep playing is a personal choice.

500GB is not even close to enough if you decide to play multiple games but it's easy to find a decent & cheap 2TB HDD & throw it into the PS4 as I did for my kids…
Do it straight away though because some of those updates are massive & depending on your Internet speed you could take a few days to download all the updates which is a pain in the BUTT…

    • +3

      or stop playing games.

And face reality 24/7? Don't be mad.

  • Is 500gb enough though? Roughly how many games will it hold? Or is better to fork out an extra $89 for the 1tb with COD?

    • +2

COD bundle definitely better deal. you can sell the codes for around $100 which leaves you with a 1TB ps4 for $299. I have a 500gb PS4 and it's not enough.

    • It's not hard to find a cheap compatible 2TB HDD & put in your PS4 but get the HDD when your purchase a PS4 as you won't want to do all updates etc twice…

      • What does this mean ?

you won't want to do all updates etc twice

I never owned a PS can you please provide more details.

        • +2

You'll need to re-download all of the system updates as well as any digital games, patches and DLC again to the new HDD. You cannot transfer the date from the internal/original 500gb HDD to your replacement.
