AmEx Velocity Edge Flight I Can't Take - Any Ideas?

So I've booked my free flight with Platinum Edge several months ago. PER-MEL-PER for Christmas. Circumstances have changed, I have to be somewhere else for Christmas.

A date change costs $107 plus any fare difference. I have no reason to go to Melbourne in the near future.

Name change on the ticket is not allowed. While IDs often are not checked on domestic flights anyone else trying to use the ticket would be at risk of being denied boarding.

What should I do?

    I think you can change destination but you will just have to pay fare difference - maybe SYD for Australia Day (it's the 26th still on the East Coast :) ) or NYE?

    If it was me I would just gift it so some poor ozbargainer that needs it and can't (or won't haha) pay for it, and let them chance it. God/fate/universe/karma would pay you back in the future don't worry.
