Connect Alarm Hills R8 to Phone Line

Hi,

I have Hills R8 but not connected to the phone line as yet.

My plan is to connect it, so that I will be able to get a phone alert when specific user disarm the alarm & potentially config the alarm using DL900 software.

A) Connect the phone
Can you please confirm whether my steps are correct:
1. Connect active phone line to the Alarm panel using normal RJ11 cable
1a) Should I disconnect the power and backup battery beforehand?
1b) I have ADSL 2+ connection with filter, I suspect it won't be an issue (to connect active phone line to alarm unit)?
2. Enable feature 4, by adding the phone number
Segment 1: 15
Segment 2: 13 (to wait for 4 sec delays)
Segment 3 - 12: mobile phone number (eg: 0410 000 000)
Segment 13: 14 (end of the phone number)
3. Feature 6, change it to “Domestic Siren” (3)
4. Feature 9, segment 1, enable option 3 (open/close event report)
4a) Can I get report on specific user?
5. Feature 10, segment 1, to change the amount of dial attempts
6. Feature 16, segment 3, enable option 1 (enable opening and closing reports)
7. Feature 22, segment 3 & 4, configure as required
8. Feature 22, segment 4, switch off option 3 (to disable auto test calling)

B) Config the alarm using DL900 software
Questions:
B1) Where to download the software? I google'd it found nothing to be found
B2) Is the application acting as a dial-up modem, which creates an outgoing phone TO the alarm?
B3) I suspect I need to configure feature 12-15 prior running the 900DL software?
B4) Can I backup Hills R8 configurations beforehand?

Thanks heaps!

  • I am not an alarm tech so i can not help you with your questions. But have you considered using the Hills CommNav with your Hills R8 to use your mobile phone and home internet to arm/disarm the alarm? And get notifications.

    • Hi, Yes been thinking to install CommNav myself (literally and figuratively), as looking at the instruction guide, it is rather simple to do…

With CommNav, can you get an alert if someone you register (let's say user 2) disarm the alarm?
