Do you have any details for the two questions and tiebreaker? I just wanted to know before proceeding and entering into competition.

    • Cool, thanks for the first 2 answers.
I randomly guessed 5342 hours for the 3rd question.

Apparently around 200,000 copies of PS VR games sold during that period, a lot of these sales would be by hardcore gamers who game at least 3-4 hours a day. There were 21 days during that period. There were also roadshows during that time by SONY which had multiple stations for people to play in the VR Worlds. So some hardcore gamers may game for 7+ hours and others an hour or less by averaging it say is 3.5 hours per day on your average copy. That is 200,000 * 3.5 * 21 = 14,700,000 hours. Then across all the different roadshows in different regions there probably another 80,000 hours playing).

I would guess around 15,000,000 hours (non-scientific guesstimate).

I'm not sure how PS store VR demos would factor into this (it is still time spent in "VR Worlds") but seeing as you require the headset I'm guessing only those who bought copies of VR games would attempt playing the demos and that would be assimilated into their overall game time each day.

I haven't factored in waning interest but if title only has a useful initial life of 40 hours then maybe you should cut it in half because I'm sure hardcore gamers would eventually get sick of the title after a week/ten days and move on to another game (which is not accounted for in my model as it based on total copies sold). But there are a lot of users who also may leave their games idle (on pause) for long periods which still may count towards the hour tally spent in VR worlds (so perhaps it offsets a little).

Maybe the actual answer is closer to 5,000,000. Game time would definitely be in the millions though and not in the thousands.

If 700,000 is for three months (and considering sales ramp up around Christmas time) it can be figured they only sold 120,000-150,000 headsets during that three week period and each VR headset purchaser would probably buy one game but less likely two or more in that three week window. So around 1.6 games in the period.

Around 200,000 game copies make sense and if you base hours played on each game then you come up with millions of hours.

It is still much less than what was originally thought: http://www.gamespot.com/articles/playstation-vr-sales-estima…

    • Haven't read the article of where they get their estimates from. There should be somewhere the weekly game sales figures. I'll have to dig through my bookmarks when I get around to this comp. :)

Any holiday periods in the USA in those dates. Things I would consider etc

Agree with in the millions probably around 5 as a base point.

Sigh has it ended? Damn they closed one off early a couple of years back :(

For the previous similar tie breaker in the past did they ever announce what answers were? Think last year was the number of shares posted up.

    • This guy, is a boss!

Hmm, despite the terms and conditions saying that the competition ends on the 12th of December at 23.59 (GMT), the website says the competition is now over.

    • +1

Hmm looks that way, will close it. Thanks for the message.

      • No problem. Odd that they're done that.

        • +1

Couldn't handle our entries perhaps? :) Similar kind of prize in this one if you haven't already entered.

        • +1

          @gnv9:

Lol perhaps. Thanks for the link. I'm a bit behind with my entries this last week.

        • @Sobieski: Yup more than the usual number of comps with Christmas coming up..you'll get there :)

    • I'm still getting access to the entry form. From memory couple of years back displayed was closed and wouldnt display the entry form.

  • +1

You sure it's ended? I can still access the entry form ok.

    • So weird, it was definitely closed this arvo (there was a message displayed), now they've reopened it. Have asked mods to fix date, thanks for this.

      • Thanks got me worried when I read it was closed One time they closed it off early 12 hours while I was in the process of submitting it. :(

Only thing can add there are weekly game sales figures for each platform. It's what I used to base previous years guessing with some assumptions made at least have a rough chance. The 150,000-200,000 games sales sounds roughly ballpark.

        • The message has disappeared so I think you're good to go. Did you wait till now to analyse the numbers? I thought you had already entered the other day :)

        • lol no. Too many competitions on FB to too was aiming to look at it closer in the next few days. I first need to dig up the weekly sales figures to confirm figures I'd seen post around the 170,000 mark.

        • +1

@GoldernFortune: Yeah I know what you mean.. the daily ones will be esp hard to keep up with. Well, don't leave it too late - they might do another early close for whatever reason. Good luck :)

  • +1

Well I guess I'll be entering now lol Glad you saw that it was closed when I did gnv9. Phew I'm not going crazy!

    • +1

Feels that way doesn't it but nope we're both not crazy :) Good luck on the entry!

      • +1

        Thanks, you too :)
