$15 Board Games Seen at Coles (Langwarrin VIC) but Believed to Be NATIONWIDE - Monopoly World Edition, Buckaroo and Trouble

1110

On my visit to Coles in Langwarrin today I came across these $15 board games including Monopoly Here and Now Edition, Trouble and Buckaroo. Would have got the monopoly but already have it and paid a lot more! Not sure if this is across all Coles stores or how long the offer is or if it was even advertised. Great stocking stuffer or even kris kringle under $20 gift!

      Until they start playing Monopoly

If you play Monopoly by the official rules, it speeds up the game and challenge considerably.
        https://www.quora.com/How-do-you-properly-hold-an-auction-in…

"When a player lands on an unowned property and decides that he or she does not want to purchase it at face value (either because they can't afford it, don't want it, or think they might be able to get it at a lower price), then that property immediately goes up for auction."

The player that comes out like a bull at a gate loses their money and can't afford property. This allows others to snap up bargains at forced (mandated) auctions. Properties sell quickly and land owners battle it out with the little money they have left.

When you play Monopoly by the rules, the game finishes quickly and is much more challenging.

Those are new rules. They're good.

        • is reverse gearing allowed?

        • +18

@sween64: They're not new, everyone just played the game wrong for years, especially in Australia. House rules were very common.

        • +2

Yup. I read the actual rules for the 1st time earlier this year and was surprised to see this. Had always relied on others explanations in the (distant) past. Makes for a much faster game.

        • +2

@Tyronomo: I've had heated arguments over this. Unfortunately, I always lose (despite being the only one that's actually read the rules) and get stuck in 3 hour long games where nothing happens and people keep getting free money for landing on Free Parking. Then they complain about how long the game goes for. It makes me want to scream. Don't even get me started on their bizarre rules for Uno.

        • just like in real life

        • This rule doesn't make the game faster at all. Very rarely do players ever not have enough money to purchase a property due to the insane starting money and GO income in the official rules as well as ease of mortgaging in order to buy important properties.

It would only make the game faster if you foolishly allow other players to buy more properties of their set by choosing to auction properties. However this is always a bad move as you need to acquire stray properties in order to stop other players from completing their monopolies.

Only real thing that makes game faster is the willingness of the players to trade properties and chance of who is fastest to complete a monopoly .

        • Even faster with speed die!

Coles sells board games? Didn't know.

    • Yeah apparently so , it was news to me and just seemed very out of place in Coles. But what a great deal!

    • Yea me too. I don't think I've ever seen board games in Coles…

    • I assume it's a one off. Like Aldi selling TVs, power tools etc.

How cool would it be if we had a Monopoly Ozbargain edition? Eneloops and woodworm umbrellas as the board game tokens.

Well for starters I don't think anyone would want to pay rrp for it lol.

"go to jv, go directly to jv, do not pass go, do not collect $200"

    • +16

Dick Smith and Udemy would be the the first set.

      • +10

And Eneloop batteries would be the Electricity company.

        • +12

Water works would be Voss water

        • +1

If you have just the electric company it's Chinese Eneloops, collect 4x your roll if you have waterworks too it's Japanese Eneloops, collect 10x your roll.

    • Dick Smith goes down! No one can buy Dick smith anymore. Player who owns Dick Smith must return it to bank.
      Masters goes down! …

        • Yeah nothing near my area. Perhaps it's limited to a few states.

Great first post! You've hit it out of the park on your first effort!

  • Hope these are at Berkeley square Coles, goanna get me some monopoly!!

  • Makes for nice KK presents or small gifts.

  • Just in time for monopoly night tonight! Now which edition to play hmmm…

  • Nice find! Do they ever sell other board games? Wondering if I should stump up $20 for Twister, Yahtzee or Operation at Target…

  • Can pick up Trouble for $15 at KMART at the moment too - They're charging $20 for Monopoly Classic though

  • Love the sign in the pic - Monolopy.

  • They were still in the boxes at Coles, Charlestown ($15). The lady was about to unpack them. Picked up 3 as xmas prezzies. Can always return them if I have the receipt. The world edition looks good!

  • Managed to find Trouble and Monopoly (bought) but not Buckaroo.

  • +1

Picked up one of these myself.

Not a huge fan of the passport idea tbh… was more fun making everyone bankrupt by putting Hotels on every property!

    • Can you ignore the extra features (such the passport idea) and play it like regular Monopoly?

      • No it's crap.

      • +1

Not really. There's no House/Hotel pieces. And the rent prices are too low, could play for hours and never go broke…. Harder to make your opponents go bankrupt.

  • Trouble is now $7.50 at Coles Richmond (VIC). No stock left of the other games.
