      • If you want 1 GB in top up you'll actually save 5 cents and get a fresh $650 to spend on calls all over again by just buying another month's plan!

    • I'm using TeleChoice (part of Telstra which is always good for me) has $20 for $500 calls and 2GB

      • yea i was thinking about that, hows the wholesale network coverage?

  • Kind of disappointing to see you move away from the large data/low cost model that you seemed to be pushing initially

    • +2

      Stay tuned

  • +1

Nice plans. My parents are on the telechoice 12.95 with only 200mb data and they always complain they can't whatsapp and facebook enough before their 200mb is up.

  • +1

PR release for your interest - https://www.ovo.com.au/news-mobile-plan-kids

  • What happens if you go over your usage?

    • +7

      Note 7 type scenario

    • then the usage type you have used up stops working - e.g. use up the 1GB of data = no more data, same with calls, however you can either top up, or with our mobile plans you can simply recharge early from your ovo dashboard to start a new 30 day period.

      Cheers

      • Great, can I port my old cell phone number to one of your plans?

        • +2

          Yes fiddy

        • @XeKToReX:
Can you show me how? Seriously! I'm now using Aldi M plan $20pm.

        • @Minh Dang: sign up, once you receive your sim, during activation you'll be asked whether you want to port

      • This is the info I was after.

Is this stated anywhere on the website/documentation? Couldn't find it.

  • Any deal for your massive Data Plan? Cheers.

    • WIP stay tuned

  • Our Hero Offer is the first of its kind in the market. It costs less than $2.50 a week, has no lock-in contracts, $200 worth of calls, 1GB of data, data free streaming of OVO content, unlimited texts and free membership to Family Zone, allowing parents remote supervision of their child’s mobile phone.

MattCEO, it's either less than $2.50/week, $46 worth of calls, 230MB of data or $10/month, $200 worth of calls, 1GB of data.

  • +1

What happens if my child goes over the $200 call limit for the month or over 1GB data?
Edit: Sorry I read your earlier response.

  • Good plan! Shame I just put my teen on kogan ($125 one year). She doesn't make a lot of calls but uses a bit of data so this one month by month was ideal

  • +2

Is the data charged in kb or mb increments?

If in kb, then this would be great for my parents!

    • +4

      kb

      • +2

        Hi Matt,
That is fantastic! I was just on your website scanning the CIS and it makes no mention of MB or KB data increments.
You should advertise this on your site and on the CIS!

  • -1

Does a new plan come with Views from the Six?

  • Can I transfer my number to OVO ?

    • yes when you activate the SIM

  • how do you order more then 1 sim?

    • place your first order, login and place your second order

  • +4

Is there any "promotional code" for added bonus?

    • +1

      :) not at the moment

    • -1

Try code "lastcall" and they will include a free Note 7

  • +3

I am happy you have this plan available to anyone as I was mighty angry when Village refused to sell me a kids meal. I mean, what does it matter if a kid or an adult eats the meal?

  • +2

Thanks, just signed up for my 80-year-old father-in-law and three kids getting mobile phones for Christmas!

    • +1

care to comment on what phones you're getting the kids? Looking at getting my daughter a phone, mainly to text us or use what's app.

      • +3

The kids wanted iPhones, but it wasn't in my sisters budget, so I ended up ordering her three of the OPPO F1S phones. I just set them up for her last night - very iPhone-like and great quality for the price (I got them on sale for ~$285 from wireless1). They come with a screen protector and case in the box, but I switched out the screen protector for a glass one and the case for something more heavy duty (they are kids after all).

I ordered a Motorola G4 Play for my father-in-law for Christmas, which I got for ~$225 from Good Guys with the recent eBay sale. Out of the two, I prefer the build quality and camera on the OPPO, but both phones are great for the price I got them for.

  • General question- does the quality of reception on mobile calls and internet have anything to do with the reseller?

    • Optus provide us full access to their network so no reduced quality / coverage.

  • Does the Data Only Sim work in a Mobile Phone (i.e. so the phone then just becomes a data device)?

    • +1

      sure does

  • +1

$200 in calls? Again with the funny money. Why not just state the number of minutes?

Having said that, looks like a very good deal and it's great that the CEO is available on here and Whirlpool. Onya Matt.

  • ++
This is a great monthly prepaid deal.
I'd jump on it if I didn't already have prepaid SIM cards up the yin yang

on a side note, I hear the Vodafone network is very good now. Some people reckon getting better than Optus.

  • Still not as good as the unlimited calls and texts deal from just over $10 with Kogan Mobile.

    • Yeah but don't you have to lock-in for a year with Kogan to get that rate? In that case new Vaya users can still get this similar XMAS deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/277084. But screw Vaya for screwing loyalty.

This deal is not as good but way more flexible should a great deal come along in 6 months with more included data (or you're starting a business that may mean you need data in the future but not right now).

  • Hi I want to buy 3 sims for my family, Do I need to create 3 new account? How do I match which sim for which name during register? as it only shows my name who created the account?

    • Buy your first SIM, then log in and buy the next 2 - it will add them to your account

  • This is a great deal for people who mostly text and just use small amounts of data for maps and stuff. Would be even better if they dropped the call inclusion, dropped the data to 100mb and only charged $5 a month, but I don't see that happening any time soon. I'd buy a few just to use as car phones and such if that was the case.

  • Hi OP,

I have a E5331 Mobile Wifi device. Can i get the OVO data and use it in the device?

    http://consumer.huawei.com/au/mobile-broadband/mobile-wifi/t…

I assume the device supports 3G only.

    Thanks and Regards,
    Dinesh

    • We dont provide device support but yes these have worked.

      Cheers

  • Does it mean the plan allows you to have 200 phone calls via local standard line, the unlimited sms is only for ovo mobile users or other mobile phone users as well? If you make any other calls:e.g. national phone call, mobile phone call regardless to ovo mobile or not, international call … you have to pay for the fee if out of your credits?

  • Great price point, half tempted to switch over but my grandfathered Telstra plan using Telstra credit via Google play is too good to give up right now. If Telstra can that plan, I'm in

  • Rep,
Can you point me in the direction of the international roaming rates?

      • +1

Do you need to have roaming credit to receive SMSes while overseas? Main concern is receiving bank security codes while travelling, and not actually making calls. Also, does roaming credit expire?

        • Yes you do. 90 days on roaming credit

  • +5

Rep are you able to put a plan in place inbetween medium and large?
    Let's say 5gb and charge $30?
that would be a sweet spot and make amaysim awaysim.

    • +3

      good feedback thanks.

    • It's not a very good marketing strategy because people will only buy GB when they need it as opposed to people choosing a larger plan than they require.

  • This is the page everyone wants (especially OzBargainers): https://www.ovo.com.au/pricing

Optional $5 per 500 MB extra

    • and with our mobile plans you can recharge early if required

      • Thanks! So top-ups expire?

Implying it would be better to just buy another month on the smallest plan?

        • +1

Top ups have a longer life. all described i the CIS on our site

        • @MattCEOatOVO: Thanks. I already went through the Critical Information Summaries https://www.ovo.com.au/critical-information) but didn't see a mention of data add-on expiries (except that they expire at the end of a cycle). Maybe I was sleepy so I'll try again.

        • @MattCEOatOVO: OK. My friend contacted Ovo on-line and they said the data top-up expires when the plan cycle expires.

        • @peterpeterpumpkin: thanks yes correct

  • How about like the data package you give a voice package for a few dollars to make these plans get additional or unlimited minutes (e.g. $5 and $2.50 respectively) in emergencies? Ovo extra extras.

For those situations where Centrelink puts you on hold for 2 hours. You can call it the Centrelink special.

Seems unusual you can buy OVO Extras or OVO Roaming credit for international calls for larger packages but not local calls for smaller packages…but you still might have 1 GB of data and unlimited SMSs left.

    • 2nded

  • Hi OP,

How long is the this kid's plan going to last? Will the price stay the same forever?

    Ta

    • We cant commit to forever - but I can confirm this not a promotional offer.

      • thanks

      • +1

if I were to get on the 9.95/1gb plan will it stay the same price (grandfathered?) if plans change in the future?

  • +1

I'd be very careful of the call Rates on the Mini and Small plans. $500 can disappear real quick.
when a 10 minute call to a mobile costs $10.30 credit - start to worry.

    https://www.ovo.com.au/pricing-mini-small

    Pricing

If you're on OVO Mobile - Mini or OVO Mobile - Small you'll find pricing below for different types of calls and charges

    National SMS and MMS: Free
    Call diversion: 99c /minute + 40c connection charge
    National mobile networks: 99c /minute + 40c connection charge
    National fixed line: 99c /minute + 40c connection charge
    Voicemail retrieval: 99c /minute + 40c connection charge
Calls to OVO (686 or 135 686 from your OVO Mobile): Free in Australia
    13 numbers: 99c /minute + 40c connection charge
    1800 numbers: 99c /minute + 40c connection charge
1900 numbers: Calls to 19 numbers are blocked

    • Thanks - I was looking for this data on the website and could not find it. Connection charges are bloodsuckers. It drains credit especially with poor connections. That's what they used to do with the old calling cards.

  • It will be Good if Medium plan Can include international calls. It will beat TPG

    • Again watch this space

    • TPG also includes international SMS/MMS which OVO does not.

  • +1

Just ordered a new SIM so I can port over. Cheers!

  • OVO Play has only 3 channels?

    Supercars
    Gymnastics
    GT Motorsport

    • so far :) watch this space

    • Might as well just add "vehicular" to the second one then show the same thing on all channels.

  • +1

About time that someone came up with a decent kids plan/s. I am not just looking at getting my daughter on to this plan, but might be switching my in laws and father over from Vaya as well. Great plans, well done.

    • +2

I'd love to pat them on the back but I can't.

A lot of us here were paying $10.99 for LiveConnected (aka the devil) 4 years ago for $500 in calls with 1.5 GB of data (albeit only 3g, limited SMS) e.g. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/63067

Beyond the MVNOs being charged higher wholesale rates, the MVNOs probably realised that no one would pay for the higher plans so they literally doubled the price and halved the service.

The only reason we're seeing a return to the "kids plans" of old is probably because unlimited calls and SMS have become standard so competing MVNOs having nothing to distinguish themselves anymore except with data and international services.

I'll give them a high five for at least providing international roaming services which is useful for emergencies (something Vaya no longer provides).

  • Hi OP, what are the charges for Call Forwarding? Is it part of the plans?

    • Forwarding is charged as a call. Diversion is free

  • Hey Matt Is there a cost for the sim and postage.. thanks

    • +1

      None :)

  • +2

Going to sign up, good bye and good riddens to Vaya / Live Connected!

  • optus $50 data plan gives 14gb iwth 365 expiry

    http://www.optus.com.au/shop/broadband/prepaid-mobile-broadb…

  • What happens if you want to upgrade your plan? Easy process? Fees?

    Found it:
And with OVO, you can change your plan whenever your needs change without being charged.

  • This mini plan is the plan I was looking/asking for 3 months ago on whirlpool. Unfortunately I was locked in to kogan 2 weeks ago, same data, with unlimited calls though I hardly use 100 minutes.

  • How long can we go without recharging before you inactivate the account?

  • If we purchase a SIM how lon do we have to activate it?

    • +1

typically a 15 mins to a few hours - we recommend activating during the morning on a weekday

      • Sorry maybe I'm missing something.

We have to order the SIM card by pre-paying for a plan, right?

And then we wait for a SIM card to arrive, which begins its 30 day plan once activated. If I go on holidays and I won't return until February 28 will the SIM still activate with credit as expected?

Another question, if auto-recharge is selected and we recharge before 30 days is up does that mean the auto-recharge will occur 30 days from the latest recharge? So if I recharge 1 day early it won't double charge me?

  • Hi, is it possible to buy recharges for this instore? Or is it entirely an online process?
    Thanks
