2x Monitor setup on the cheap

Forgive me, first foray into monitors in the modern age. Been using a tv screen moved states and now, gonna get me a nice dual setup.

Happy to go with something cheaper for the second screen, but first screen was looking at 24" with minimal 1-3ms latency, second probably 21" not fussed on latency. First screen games, second screen screwing around.

Any good ideas, brands, experiences you guys have had, on the cheap of course why else would you be here?
Thanks in advance.

Suggest getting the same (cheap) monitor for the second screen - otherwise the colour setup etc. gets to be a pain after a while. At a minimum get the same size and resolution. Obviously make sure both have the same VESA mounting, and then use dual monitor arms.

Got two samsung 24" at ~$180 in a sale myself.

Also worth considering a 4K TV today, if you can get one cheap enough, with the right input lag, and your graphics card can hack it - 48" is the equivalent of 4 x 24" monitors…

Get same monitors and same model. The bezels will then match up and your cursor wont hyperspace because of misalignment. Worst is having two different screens. I have a dual monitor setup (Dell 24" U2407 + Samsung 710N on portrait) and even though the screens misalign by mere millimetres and pixel wise is only 80 pixels, it annoys me how the cursor jumps from screen to screen.

    • Brightness difference between monitor is also annoying.

Totally agree with others - you want two screens the same. Having different scaling, colour profile etc gets very frustrating. Glad it's not just me.

  • Yep, agree, get the same. I've got my hubbies discards (2 x samsung 27 inch monitors - S27A950D) and his new ones are 2 x Asus 28 inch gaming monitors (MG28UQ). He does his research so these would both be good products, not sure on the cheapness though.

I've had non matching ones before and really doesn't work out.

Same monitors are usually preferable. I've got two different ones though and it works fine.

Go with gumtree. So many monitors on there if you just want 1080p. I got a bunch of 24" Samsung ones for about $25 each
