Large Barista Bros. "Iced Coffee" $2 @ Hungry Jacks

750

Now the reason I wrote iced coffee in quotes is because it's actually a frozen thing and is served like a frozen coke or Sprite is served.

I know someone will be like "but it's normal price and shit", so my response is that isn't a valid reason because this is a promotion which will not be on the normal menu every single day of the year. So please, don't negative vote unless it's necessary. If it will be on the normal menu I apologise to you but for now it's a promotion item

Almost forgot!

Merry Christmas fellow OzBargainers and a Happy New Year filled with SSDs, HDDs, and vaginal cream lol

I tried this the other day and it tastes pretty funky but don't let that stop the brave ozbargainers out there. Also you get icecream, so its like spider.

    • +1

      Funky good or funky bad?

      • Would like to know too. Pretty keen to try it out today but if its funky bad i'll pass

        • I tried the other day. The first few sips tastes pretty weird. Feels like artificial coffee. But then, when it melts a bit and you mix in the ice cream, it actually starts to taste pretty smooth and tasty. It is definitely worth a try. But can't see myself going back just to have that by it's own.

        • @hitman47: it has a slight of sour taste, and has very light color like frozen sprite.

        • @hitman47:
Wow interesting. Gotta try it now lol

      • +1

Yeah, funky like the funky chicken dance or…

  • +9

Hopefully it tastes better than their non-frozen version… That stuff is terrible..

    • +4

Barrista Brothers is Coca Cola Amatils version of iced coffee. It is UHT milk and not very pleasant. If the "Iced" version is just the UHT packaged stuff run through the slurpee machine then it won't taste any better.

    • +1

Iced coffee, I'm not sure why you brought up mountain dew at KFC. Not even comparable.
+ alot of people aren't aware of this new addition.

      • I am not aware of this addition. There you go.

      • -1

This is not an iced coffee. Title is misleading. It's a normal frozen drink with coffee flavouring.

        • What is the distinction between "coffee flavoured" and supposed genuine coffee? A lot of bottled ice coffee is labelled as flavoured milk.

      • Exactly, I wasn't aware of it and even though the non frozen version is awful I will give this a try. $2 is a baragin "if" it tastes OK as it is comparable to Maccas Coffe Kick frappe which will set you back $4 - $5.

    • +1

Agree with Orpheus. Not only not a bargain, not even cheap. And on top of that not a good product. Are we bargain hunters or an advertising board for garbage ?

      • Its seem free advertising for promotional items is ok on OZB. This OP has a history of posting garbage like this and also likes to promote via OzB new additions to the HJ Menu, case in point was the promotion of HJ loaded fries. Then attacks anyone who dares to point out this isnt a deal. By calling them idiots in the body of their post.

    • +1

But that was posted as a deal… and was received quite positively by the community.

      • This is double the price. Frozen Coke and Fanta, Sprite etc. can be had for $1 at lots of fast food placed. So how is this a bargain?

        • +1

Sorry, I should have made it more clear that I was replying to your comment in order to answer the question you asked. (Not to argue it's value as a bargain)

Should we post the $1 KFC Mountain Dew frozen drink as a deal because nobody else does it?

According to the comment section: Yes.

Frozen Coke and Fanta, Sprite etc.

Apples and oranges, dear. Alternatives? Yes. Comparable equivalents? No.

To answer your new question, what you are comparing is a product that can live in a can or bottle (or stored pre-prep) pretty much indefinitely to a dairy product that cannot. Even if they are using milk powders or likewise, its still a different product.

Now to compare to not so different products:
I've been to many cafe's out there that will do a coffee "frappe" such as the one described in the original post which consist of simply a couple pumps of iced-coffee-sugar-syrup + a bit of milk and ice (not even ice-cream sometimes) then put in a blender. They will then happily charge you anything between $4-7 ($7! Blasphemy! Not even exaggerating here). In fact, they will charge you this much for the same thing even if they don't blend it or anything. In fact, it doesn't even need to be a cafe for this price, any food store that sells them will charge you just as much. Maybe I've just been really unlucky with all the stores I've chosen to go to - or maybe I just live somewhere that sells ice-coffee drinks expensively, I don't know - but if I'm really lucky it might be $3.50 but I haven't seen this price on these since forever.

Another comparison would be packaged coffee-milk drinks you can but from the fridge section of stores. Standard price of these are about $3.50(?) from what I seem to remember.

What these guys are offering iced cream and real ground coffee brand (although this seems up for debate) and chocolate dusting (apparently). I have yet to try the quality but for what it is I would have to say it's a relatively good price.

tl;dr For less than half the average price for almost the same thing I can pick up elsewhere: I say deal on!

  • Cheers OP I had no idea it was a thing…will give it a try even if it's funky

Thanks and Merry Xmas to you, too.

    • +2

      Thank you! ๐Ÿ™‚

  • +1

I gave you a โž• for the trumped up post.

    Merry Xmas!โ˜ƒ

    • +1

      Haha thanks, ๐Ÿ˜‹

  • +3

That Barista Bros is awful, I was given 2 at Central one day by promoters and I drank half of one and gave the other away. Dreadful stuff.

    • +7

You've convinced me to try it now. Thanks.

      • no publicity is bad publicity…

    • +2

According to a comment it's a bit weird at first but it gets better, but you know, different people, different taste…

      • -1

That's not the first time someone has said that to me.

  • +1

It's the 'iced coffee frappe' which is the frozen mixture with ice cream and chocolate dusting. If you don't want that.. it's still $2.

    • +1

I didn't get chocolate dusting. The people making it were talking about dusting, but must have decided it wasn't meant to have it. Anyway, it tasted ok, especially once I mixed the ice cream in.

      • +1

        Yeah should have it

  • ugh barista bros is such garbage

    • -1

Theres a difference because its frozen and has ice cream. So I guess there is a difference?

      Merry Christmas!
      Feliz Navidad!

      • Not game enough to try it, but if it's anything like their regular iced coffee then avoid it.

  • Put some vodka in it. After a few sips you won't know the difference

    • Haha. Try for me and report back!

      Feliz Navidad!

      • Worked for my maccas iced coffee

  • The best comment I've ever come across on the Internet was a short review of Barista Bros. coffee. It read, 'tastes like the as$hole of a long haul truck driver'. Vivid.

    • One has to wonder how he knows what the (profanity) of a long haul truck driver tastes like in the first place….

      • Yeah, that is fairly specific.

    • If you re-read the comment I believe you're referring to he was actually even more vivid in his description than that (https://www.reddit.com/r/australia/comments/2jryfw/(profanity)/cleiqot/). Oh yeah, and he said it on at least two separate occasions (https://www.reddit.com/r/australia/comments/2gmwjw/iced_coffโ€ฆ).

Until I've tried both I can't be considered a fair judge. Gotta save up for a bottle of Barista Bros…

  • How big is it?

    • +6

Well generally long haul truckers arent the skinniest of guys, so probably xl…

  • +1

Ive tried many Coffee-flavoured milks that tasted horrible and far from anything coffee.
When barista Bros came out, I thought awesome, it apparently uses real Arabica beans, I went for the extra strong, tasted crap, nothing like coffee.

  • +1

Save your money, it's heinous. Tastes like a frozen coke with coffee syrup poured in the bottom. I got through about 20% of mine before it hit the bin.

    • Thanks for your opinion ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Save your money guys, tastes truly awful!

    • -1

Different opinions, so you cant just say it doesnt taste good and expect the rest of us to agree with you.

      • I don't expect that…… however it does seem to be the case judging by other comments :)

  • +1

Don't bother trying this it takes gross, like a combination of frozen coke & iced coffee.

We tried two and both were vile.

  • +1

    It's disgusting, don't get it.

  • Tried today :| Absolutely disgusting!

  • +2

So I grabbed 2 today - Brought wife along saying "Let's get an Iced Coffee!" which she was excited about.

While I thought it was weird, it was still palatable. She was incensed and couldn't believe this could be sold as as 'Iced Coffee' as it was total rubbish. Left 90% and couldn't have more.

    Pic in real life: http://imgur.com/a/KbwKA

clubberlang said it best - like a frozen coke with Ice Cream and Coffee.

Not amazing, but not vile either! Harden up! ;)

  • Yeah by the looks of most customers when they take their first sip it doesn't taste too good.

  • How does it compare to the frappacino at maccas? I find that quite nice if its anything similar?

    • it doesnt

  • +1

Tried it today and there is a real emphasis on frozen and iced. If they placed some soft serve in a real barista bro it'd be perfect.

  • Thanks OP, was delicious!

  • These are just awful !!!
