OZBNATO

Hi OzBargain Community!

About Me

I am Simon from OzStraps (www.ozstraps.com.au), we are a new small local business that has been up and running for the past 3 months.

The reason I started this business is because I wanted to purchase some replacement watch straps to freshen up some of the older watches I owned, however I realised that our local online stores were quite expensive compared to overseas options.

The Bargain

Anyway, enough about me, onto the bargain!

I am offering 40% off all NATO straps for OzBargain customers (for a limited time only). Simply use the coupon code OZBNATO upon checkout.

https://ozstraps.com.au/collections/the-nato-series

Is This Actually a Bargain?

To be completely transparent, a quick eBay/Aliexpress search for NATO watch straps will result in millions of results with prices ranging from ~$2 to $80. This is because the quality of watch straps in the market can vary significantly which is reflected in the price.

With OzStraps I believe I have struck a balance between affordability and quality to provide Australians with a bang for buck product. I also provide the following:

  • Free delivery via Australia Post is included on all purchases
  • Orders over $20 get free Express shipping with a tracking number
  • Complimentary spring bars will be provided with every purchase
  • Local support and warranty available should you have any issues or require assistance
  • Every order is hand packed with love by me :)

Unless you want to purchase locally, http://www.cheapestnatostraps.com/collections/nato.

There are multiple discounts that you can stack and the quality is pretty damn good - aka I'm comfortable enough strapping a +10k watch onto their leather natos.

  • Thank you. Perfect timing
You saved me $88 as i was planning to buy a new watch tomorrow. Grabbed 2

    • +4

      Timing

      Get it?!? Well played sir.

      • +4

I guess you could say he is no longer strapped for time ;)

  • +3

You should get some Zulu straps. I prefer them as they are stronger and the hardware is thicker, better quality. they look cool in the 5 ring version, great for dive watches. I want a bond NATO but doesn't took like you stock it?

    • Thanks for the feedback, Zulu straps and Bond NATOs are going on the list!

    • +1

Thanks for the feedback! We are looking into ZULU straps right now, we have been working on getting stainless steel Apple Watch straps in and are just undergoing some final testing.

I can confirm Bond NATOs are also coming - these will hopefully be in the store sometime next week :)

      • I'd be keen to get one of the stainless steel apple watch straps from you if they are good. I got the black Milanese band delivered this week from you and it's great. Pity about the metal on my desk at work though that presents a problem when resting my wrists :)

Would you consider getting 2mm thick nato straps as well? These 1.2mm ones many online stores sell are just cheap bits of fabric. I'd really like to get some really strong classic nato straps if you can get them at a good price.

        • Hi There,

Thanks for the positive feedback it is much appreciated. We are currently looking into thicker NATO straps to address some of the feedback we have received regarding the thinness and quality. These would most likely cost a few dollars more than the straps we currently have on sale but if the market is willing to pay those extra few bucks we will definitely bring them in!

I'm pretty confident with the quality of the stainless steel link bands we're currently testing - will provide an update once these are formally released on our store

        • @Simonnn:

Costing more is absolutely fine and expected! :) The thin ones are just fashion statements for lack of a better description which is fine but I actually like the purpose of a nice quality thicker one :)

The cheap online stores usually only sell these thin ones, so it might be a good promotion for you if you guys end up getting the thicker ones in :)

        • @uradox: Check out the ZULU straps sold at cheapestnatostraps. They are a very very nice quality, I much prefer them to standard NATO.

But I will buy a Bond NATO from OzStraps when they get them in if they can extend this deal.

  • any 26mm strap?

    • Not at the moment unfortunately, will investigate for you

    • Damn mate, 26mm sounds like a wrist brace.

  • Any fitbit alta straps?

    • Unfortunately I believe the Fitbit Alta uses its own proprietary bands, we don't currently stock them but thats not to say we won't look into it!

  • Any 14mm band? For a kid watch.

    • A kids section, great idea! not available at the moment but watch this space :)

  • Just grabbed 2! Can't wait to check out the quality. if good, I will grab some more. Can't stand the rubber straps on my seiko and orient.

  • How to determine the size? By the spring bars? I have this and it says 24mm as band width, you don't stock that size?

  • Hi, have you looked into getting 'perlon' straps for sale? I've recently got a watch with them as a gift, and I think they're pretty dope.

    • +1

We have been looking into this in the background, something tells me that there may be a perlon strap deal for OzBargain coming some time after the new year :)

  • Do you/can you stock "black" apple watch adapters?

    • Hi richiey!

Yes we actually do have "black" apple watch adapters available in spring bar or screw style.

I have made the spring bar version live: Link

  • Do you have a butterfly clasp leather strap (23mm) for Citizen watches?

    • Hi abracadabra! Unfortunately no 23mm sizes at this point. However we are looking at expanding our sizing range further :)

  • I can't apply discount code to The Boston Black 22MM for some reason.

    • Hi ddaus! Unfortunately the discount code is only applicable for the NATO strap series at this stage.
We may run a promotion for The Boston Series at a later however, so keep a look out!

  • +1

In the future we will try and do our best to be transparent with our product source so that the community know exactly what they're paying for!

I once purchased some NATO straps from an Aussie distributor thinking I was helping some locals but although I received the straps a lot quicker than from the US, the quality was shockingly terrible with fraying everywhere.

I have since bought straps from the US with no issues whatsoever.

OP, could you please share with us where you sourced these NATO straps from?

    • Hi ChillBro - most definitely we can! Our NATO straps are sourced from the same supplier as these ones from Amazon. We've previously sold a significant number these without issue or complaint however, the advantage of being local is that we can rectify and issues experienced quickly :)

    • They're all made in China.

    Update 30/12/2016, 1:34AM

First of all, I'd just like to thank everyone for the support. I will do my best to make sure that all orders are fulfilled in a timely manner.

On this note, certain NATO straps which were out of stock in our online store have now been adjusted so that the deal may live on for a bit longer.

To be honest we were not expecting such an overwhelming response to this deal and we are actually running low on the spring bars that were specified as a bonus in this deal. You may however reuse your existing watch spring bars with the new NATO straps without issue, but I would still like to apologise to those that may be inconvenienced by this (we will still be aiming to provide as many spring bars as possible in the orders)

    • Oh, I actually lost the old spring bars. So should I not order just yet?

      • I've shot you a PM, we will sort something out for you :)

  • I'll bite when you get in some perlon options…

    • +1

Hi hyper4ctive! Looks like there's definitely a demand for Perlon options, so we will definitely do some research for a good Perlon band to bring in :)

  • Any idea if/when the Bond NATO strap will be back in stock?

Itching to get one for my SKX: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1021/1669/files/IMG_201608…

Also, are you planning on getting some stainless bracelets in? I am in the market for a solid link Oyster as well.

    Thanks!

    • Hi sabaramo, we will most likely get more in stock hopefully sometime next week. That's a nice seiko diver watch!

We were actually actively looking at bringing in stainless bracelets (for standard watches and apple watche). Unfortunately the ones we found did not have the quality we were looking for and thus we are sampling more products before committing to bringing them in.

    • +1

If you want solid end links for your SKX, Strapcode make the best oyster Here: and Here:. Otherwise there are other options such as the Chinese Super Engineer that have straight bars and are high quality and very cheap WUS link:.

      • +1

I have read that Strapcode Oyster Bracelets are very good but US$55.99 is a bit rich, I would rather put that money towards another watch.
When you consider the Aragon Divemaster is US$110 shipped and it already has a nice bracelet with solid links and end pieces it's hard to justify.

Thanks for the link to the Super Engineer, bookmarked as I may get one for my SKX007 sometime.

        • +1

I've been trying so hard to convince myself why I need the Chinese Super Eng. But I really like having a balance between steel and NATO/RAF straps, especially in summer.

        • Any links to photos of it on a Seiko SKX?

        • +1

@28Degrees: Not mine and on a Strapcode, but same, same. I'm thinking at 22mm with no taper that it looks a bit chunky for me, especially since the SKX wears a bit on the smaller side.

        • +1

@ilikeit: Nice find, yes I agree, it looks a bit too big & chunky on the SKX.

  • Do you have any straps for smartwatch? I'm owning a pebble time and a samsung gear s3 watch.

    • Hi, both the Galaxy Gear S3 and the Pebble Time Steel can be used with any standard 22MM watch strap. This means our NATO straps will be suitable :)

  • Obsidian Black NATO - 22mm sold out :(

    • Hi DAT, we should hopefully get more stock in by late next week! We'll keep the deal live a bit longer to compensate for the lack of stock.

      • Thank you, appreciate it.

  • i'm looking for ultrasonically welded nato straps

  • are your straps glued or stitched? good luck with your new business

  • Are the nato straps suitable for small wrists (female)? Say, a wrist of circumference 15cm? Thanks

    • We currently stock NATO straps in 20mm and 22mm sizes, if this is too large for your wrist we may also be able to obtain straps of smaller size

  • if i order a milano strap for my apple watch today, can it be express posted out today as well so I get it tomorrow?

    • Hi There, would you be able to clarify which product you are referring to as the Milano strap? If the value of your order exceeds $20 it will be shipped via Express post.

We will be posting all orders made by 3-4PM today, so if you purchase prior to then via express post it will be posted tonight and you may receive it tomorrow if Australia Post is delivering packages on Saturday, otherwise you will likely receive it in the next business day :)

  • +1

I've wanted to try a nato strap for a while so ordered a few. Should go alright on my original Pebble.

    • I received mine today, thanks. No complimentary spring bars though.

Good timing as my pebble band started to crack!

      • Great to hear! as mentioned earlier in the thread we unfortunately had a shortage of spring bars. However if this does become an issue for you please feel free to contact us.

        • Ah, I missed that. All good.

  • Like a few others I'm also looking for an 18mm band for my Timex.

    • +2

Hi Sween65, definitely noted for next time!

      • my too :)

any chance of getting 18mm bands in stock during the sale period?

  • Tried for both black and grey, both sold out. Is there a way we can order now still and just have them posted when stock arrives?

    • Keen as well op

      • We have the ability to enable this, however I would prefer to keep the items "out of stock" so that our customers don't have to wait a long time before receiving their items. There will be more stock arriving within a week or two, you will be the first to hear of it when it arrives :)

        • Adding a feature where you can receive a notification email when new stock arrives would be good.

        • +1

@sween64: Working on this right now! thanks for the suggestion!

    • Now back in stock, get in quick!

  • I wouldn't have honestly thought there was any room in the aftermarket strap market for another business, even local, given the popularity and seemingly unbeatable value proposition offered by cheapestnatostraps.com for both local US and international customers.

I know that there has not really been a similarly low-cost business set up in AU but given the tighter margins, even by being able to offer quicker and more satisfactory customer service, is our market big enough?

I'm not trying to discourage, just interested in the business case. :)

    • +3

Hi Shiny Mew! You raise some good points here, to be frank it is and will continue to be tough. However, judging by the positive response I have received from the OzBargain community I do believe there is a market out there and I am determined to keep pushing forward to provide the local market with what they want to see in our local stores.

I am really trying to listen and focus on what the community wants and to be an approachable business which is clearly taking customer feedback on board. Some live examples: we are currently working on bringing in Stainless Steel Apple Watch link bands as that has popped up a few times over the last few days, Bond NATO straps will also be coming your way and the team is also currently looking into Perlon/Zulu straps etc.

From a dollar perspective you are right, there are many things that need to be considered if this is to be a successful business long term. However, at this stage I am really trying to find my place within the market so I am focusing on exploring what the market wants rather than the profit margins (that's not to say I'm happy to lose too much money on each transaction!).

If we take NATO straps as an example, the balance between quality and price is key. If the market is happy to pay a premium for a higher quality band (or vice versa), this is something I'm definitely willing to investigate so keep the feedback coming guys! :)

  • too slow and sold out of my favorite style. Will you restock it somehow?

    • +1

Hi vantruongsinh! Yep we will have more stock arrive next week. We've also brought in more options such as the 'bond' NATO strap and Apple 316L stainless steel !

    • Which style were you after? as SevenSmurfs mentioned we are in the process of restocking, give us a follow on Facebook or Instagram for the quickest updates of new products and restock!

  • will they fit my LG watch urbane or not? And is it a 2 piece or a single strap

    • +1

The LG Urbane uses standard 22mm watch bands, so any of the 22mm straps from our store will work. The leather bands are 2 piece and the NATOs are 1 piece :)

  • +1

Ordered a few of these NATO straps which came today. Didn't realise they were cheaply glued together and not stitched. For a $10 NATO strap it's extremely disappointing to find them glued, the second little strap is already losing it's bond! They come in nice packaging but really they are what you would find for $2 on ebay. These are a real disappointment and would not recommend.

    • +1

The one I ordered were stitched together. Seems to be good quality as well.

      • The little strap that goes underneath the watch is stitched? Mine is glued and coming apart on one side. The larger strap is stitched which is good. It has a flimsy watch buckle like ones I've received on ebay.

        • +2

Yea, I can see 6 stitches on the back. Is that how many you have?

        • Have you bought from cheapestnato before and if so did you encounter this problem?

        • @Obey: I've only got 4 stitches on the back. Weird.

        • @LaProblematique: No never bought from cheapestnato before. They any good? Received a couple of NATO straps as gifts a while ago and have only recently been looking for more. With not much luck so far (ebay & ozstraps)

        • @toastietoasta:
I also have a few straps from cheapestnatostraps - been wearing it for a few years and no sign of wear and tear. The quality is amazing.

    • +1

Ordered two and one's glued and the other is stitched, as well as numerous other differences between the two; number and size of holes, one's double stitched, buckle shape and size etc.

  • From your description above, •Complimentary spring bars will be provided with every purchase, I received the 5 different colour nato straps, but no spring bars.

    • +1

Hi There, as per our update earlier in the thread we unfortunately faced a shortage of bonus spring bars! If this is an issue for you and you need the bars please email us at [email protected] and we will make sure we sort it out for you.

      • No real problem unless one goes zing across the room into the neverland.

  • I there. Any discounts on your Mayfair Brown (Tan) deployment strap?

    • Hi datzed, no official promotion running at the moment however I will shoot you a PM :)

  • Hi, will you get any new Obsidian Black or Admiralty Grey in stock before the promo expires?

    Cheers

    • Definitely, we will let you know when the stock has been refreshed in this thread :)

      • +2

Awhhh yeaaah! I'm wearing the Regimental on my Seiko SKX007 right now. Love it!

        • Great to hear! :)

  • Another niche area: I have and old Seiko Kinetic that uses silicon strap (22mm I think). Is hard to find a reasonable strap replacement. I think there'w quite a few other Seiko divers watches that also use the silicon straps also. Thanks :D

  • I'm still waiting for the "Deep Sea" and "Obsidian Black" to be back in stock. Do you have an ETA?

    • Hi sseiya76!

      Yep!

All will be back in stock tonight with a greater range to choose from too (based off the feedback we received) :)

Check back at around 7-8pm tonight. Promotion still applies!

      • Good to hear that! I'll check it out tonight :) Thanks

    • Stock is now available, please head to our website. Deep Sea is running low already so get in quick!
