  • Wow! I already have a 27" IPS but this is super tempting!

    • +19

      Ultrawide is perfect for plagirising.

Imagine how many word documents you can have open next to each other!!

      • +6

Surprisingly, practically, not much more than two, side-by-side, given that minimum width for a Windows' windows is about 1024 (XGA). For proper plagiarism, need 3440x1440 - original, plagiarised, and thesaurus.

        • +8

Guess it's back to Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C, Alt+Tab, Ctrl+V again to finish off uni assignments ;)

        • +1

          @montorola:
Plagiarism != copying. Plagiarism still requires some creativity to disguise the copy.

        • +2

really? i can side-by-side two Word windows pretty easily on a 1080p screen

        • +1

@dltra: Which width is 1920 pixels, the width on this monitor is 2560 pixels, roughly 33% wider.

For a similar experience in width on Word documents you'd need a 50% increase on 1920 for each additional Word document open, which for 3 documents is 2880 pixels wide, anything less makes the experience more uncomfortable.

        • +1

@montorola: That turns into CTRL-H when you get to corporate world and have to produce reports.

        • +1

@FabMan: of course, makes sense. you might be able to squeeze in 3 windows but you're right, it wouldn't be as comfortable.

  • how would this look hooked up to a ps4?

    • +7

      Pointless, PS4 doesn't do Ultra-Wide.

      You'll stretch the image.

    • +4

Play The Order 1886 zoomed in to remove the black bars, it is simply stunning

    • It's fine, you'll have black bars on the side because most games don't support ultra wide. It'll be basically a 27" monitor once you take into account the black bars.

    • I have this exact set up for my PS4. I don't know what other people are saying about the stretching as I honestly don't notice it.

      • +1

Because it shouldn't stretch. It'll output it at 1920x1080, so you'll have black bars on the side, so becomes a 'standard' smaller 1080p monitor.

I've got the 29um65 and it's fine for ps4. This would be better.

Note that 34" is pretty big for only 1080p. Really need 1440p on this size monitor. Good deal though.

  • +2

Does anyone know if this does 75hz?

    • yes

      • +2

Yes it does or yes someone knows?

        • +5

Yes it does or yes someone knows?

          Yes

        • yup

        • +2

@kaneissik: Sweet! All cleared up now.

    • From their website
      "Refresh Rate 75Hz"

    • +2

From my link further down the page: "According to the manual, 1280x1024 is the highest resolution that supports the 75Hz refresh rate."
"native (maximum) display mode is 2560x1080 @ 60Hz."
However, people have been able to force native res at 75Hz through their video card software custom profiles.

  • +1

    No Freesync, bugger.

    • +2

      Thanks for letting me know

  • +1

what the hell is VESA Dynamic Action Sync ? another name for freesync?

    • +2

Is it like Mestarcard Dynamic… Ahhh forget it, can't make it funny.

    • It reduces input lag.

  • +2

    Contrast Ratio - Mega

  • +1

    That's insanely cheap…..

    Must….resist…..I want the 1440p version……

    • +3

I have the Dell 34" 1440p and I definitely wouldn't be going any lower than that for resolution. But I guess it depends on you usage - I use mine for work (video editing), but for games perhaps the 1080p version is fine. Regardless of resolution, if you're coming to 21:9 from a dual 16:9 setup, you'll never go back.

      • thanks for your feedback, I'd definitely had jumped on it if it was 1440P

        • For games I'd go a higher refresh rate over resolution. I'd take a 1080p@144hz over a higher res at 60hz

        • @notmrks: I'm looking to use it for work rather then games so I guess it depends what you're after

        • @impoze: definitely look for a 1440p model then. It may be pricier, but it's worth it.

  • +4

I don't know whether the specs are good or not but I've just found these shops are all selling it for AUD595:
    1) UMart: http://www.umart.com.au/umart1/pro/Products-details.phtml?id…
    2) Computer Alliances: https://www.computeralliance.com.au/34-lg-34um58-p-ultrawide…
    3) MSY (today): http://www.msy.com.au/vic/cheltenham/monitors/17780-lg-ips-3…

    Overseas they are selling at:
    1) USD339 at CostCo: https://m.costco.com/LG-34UM58-P-34%22-UltraWide-Full-HD-IPS…
    2) USD449 at BestBuy: http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/lg-electronics-lg-34-ult…

So on price alone it's a bargain!

  • +2

waiting for super deals on the [34uc79g-b] 144hz version of this 34" 1080p monitor

  • +1

Is there any input lag issues using HDMI 1.2 vs a monitor with Displayport?

  • +4

I own this monitor. Bought it last year from msy for $500 or so.

    This monitor has freesync

It clocks to 75hz once freesync is enabled.

I run a gtx 1070 and can overclock the monitor to 79hz.

Colour is beautiful and 2560x1080 while not 4k looks stunning in games that support it.

    • Have you played a console on it?

i mainly play pc but i do have a ps4 pro for those exclusives and cod which has no players on pc lol.

      • Consoles will not support ultrawide.

        • I did not ask if they did.

        • @Axelstrife: Yes it supports 16:9 like any other ultrawide. Just means it'll either be stretched or have black bars depending on your monitor settings.

        • -1

@Axelstrife: Puts on slightly threatening German accent, "Hogan, you will answer the question!"

    • Freelance is useless on a nvidia card though.

      • Freesync*

    • +1

I highly doubt you have a genuine overclock, it's probably skipping frames.

      How are you testing freesync?

      • +1

I've tested with a 1080.. it skips frames when overclocked… not a genuine 75hz with Nvidia

        • Exactly what I thought.

    • Oh nice, so it actually has freesync? I was trying to check this and it says it doesn't on the LG spec page here: http://www.lg.com/global/business/monitor/monitor-products/l… (Search FreeSync and it will say "no"). This makes sense as FreeSync was only initially provided via the DisplayPort 1.2 standard.

Can you confirm that your model is in fact the 34UM58-P?

      • +1

        This thread seems relevant: https://www.reddit.com/r/ultrawidemasterrace/comments/4xcs7b…

TLDR: 34UM58-P (this one) does NOT seem to support Freesync, while the 34UM58-A (a model available in China) does.

        • Fair enough - thanks mate. Based on that, it appears FreeSync is not an option.

May have to pass on this then, even though it's a ridiculously good price. After experiencing FreeSync / G sync, it's hard to go back to a normal monitor.

  • Does this monitor have a matte screen?
    Also is the bezel matte?
    Thanks

  • -1

I don't like the bottom bezel. Why can't they just make screens with as little bezel as possible.

    • +5

It has side and top bezels as well. The "photos" are bogus.

The front glass pretty much edge-to-edge but there's a good 1cm on each side that doesn't actually have pixels.

      http://blog-imgs-93.fc2.com/w/a/t/watchmonoblog/34UM58-P_06.…

      • That's fine, it makes cleaning easier when the entire front face is one piece. Instead of getting dust trapped in the recessed area or into the panel itself (which i've had on my dell U2713HM).

        • I like the edge-to-edge glass design myself - I have the same thing on a pair of Dell monitors.

The problem is that the publicity photos show the screen filling the entirety of the glass. And that just ain't so.

        • @KentT: Yeah never trust promo photos of any monitor.

  • Very nice price. Is it good for productivity or just gaming? I'd like to get rid of my dual monitors as one is 1680x1050 and the other 1080p, and slightly different in size. Just like being able to have word on one screen and browser on the other for typing up documents. Would be good to reduce clutter and have a higher res.

    • The LG IPS panel should be fine for productivity.

Let me try to convince the boss to do a freeshipping for this monitor tomorrow so that everyone can really enjoy a real stunning deal

    • Yes please!!

    • yes plz

    • I am keen to grab one of these.

Any way to lock in my purchase now? I tried the coupon and it obviously didn't work, and prob won't until tomorrow

Would love if you could nudge the boss into free shipping

      • +1

Use a Price Protection Credit Card!

        • Can you please explain how that works? I have an AMEX that has that..

    • +3

Hi Rep, any super deals on the 144hz version of this monitor?

As an aside, it looks like a few of these LG monitors are going on sale from many suppliers. Is this because they are introducing new versions of them in 2017?

      • +1

I second that. Good deal on a 144hz version would get snapped up!

      • +8

LG Gaming IPS Curved 34" 34UC79G-B 1ms 144Hz DP HDMI VESA Gaming Monitor ?

        • +2

Yes pls we are all waiting for a gaming monitor deal hehe ;)

        • +1

Will this be a thing? I would like to know before 1pm as I plan to buy the monitor advertised here - but a solid discount on the 144hz one would convince me to delay - and buy the one with higher refresh rate.

    • You'll be an ozBargain legend if you can arrange that deal!

    • would love the 10% off monitors deal you guys had a while back. would pick up a Acer X34 instantly if you can do it :)

      • Yep, annoyed now I did not getone back around Xmas, current monitor just decided to die last week. Price for it is now over $1400 at most stores. If it gets down to around $1200 I would probably pounce on one too :)

    • Yes please, you won't regret it!

    • +1

Thank for that. But on my mind is: "Why is this so cheap compared to other places?" I mean, MSY has always been good with price, but never half…

I mean I'll buy it with free ship lol, but just wondering

      • +4

Ok. I will make you an offer that you cannot deny !

        • Haha, outstanding. Thanks

    • Another brown nose here begging for free shipping!

    • Does that mean those who don't need freeshipping get another $10-20 off?

    • I'd be on it, if there was free shipping included as well :)

    • +18

Confirmed ! $299 Delivered ! New voucher code "MSYFTW"

      • I didn't know I might purchase a new monitor tomorrow but you've got me intrigued now about the mystery of ultra-wide!

What are the benefits for business application (I mainly game on consoles)?

      • Damn OP, you ROCK!!! I am selling my ultra-wide kidney to get this monitor!

      • Hi rep, if I added some other things to the order (say a graphics card), would the free delivery still apply?

    • +3

Guys, make sure you order the monitor from below links :

      http://bit.ly/2jO7qVv

Do not order from the URL in OP post.

      Thank you

Mod: Updated OP with that link.

      • Hi, for me it says the voucher is not yet valid?

        • Never mind lol.

        • @Twinji: Hey Twinji. What did you do to fix it? I am getting the same error, and have tried both URLs multiple times. Thanks.

        • +1

@Vinbie: It starts tomorrow from 1pm to 6pm, so the voucher is meant to be valid then.

      • Thanks for the great deal. :)

      • I've updated the URL in OP's post to that one, thanks store rep.

        • Thank you mod

  • Tempted to buy as a place holder for a year until I can afford a new 1440P 144HZ IPS Panel with Freesynce but I donthave a Graphics card that does free Sync atm either - So I would have to buy a new GPU anyway to take advantage of it…. - Sigh

    • +23

      Thanks for letting us know

    • What's the appeal of freesync?
I don't have it and haven't noticed any tearing problems in the games I play.
