NBN and phone options?

Hi all.

I am currently connected with belong internet and have been enjoying a very stable and fast fibre to the house connection. AT the time I didn't need a land line, but quickly spotted that they had a voice option so that was fine with me. Come a few months later and I require a reliable land line for my young family. The belong voice option is just an app for iPhone.

Can I add voice from another provider? Or should I cancel and move on, suck up the fees?

Thanks

  • You don't need either, just plug in your old analog phone in an adaptor like this

    Then Into modem over VoIP

    • That makes sense! Any recommendations for a VOIP service? Simpler the better.

      • I use myNetfone. They usually have a special offer with an adapter (called an ATA) for cheap.
They are reliable and pretty cheap.

  • I'm with internode nbn they have free VoIP. Does Belong not do VoIP? These plans and contracts and all different providers are intentionally confusing and deceptive at times.

  • Have you confirmed that your existing Belong service doesn't include VOIP?

I use 3CX to access my VOIP service through my PC, it doesn't cost anything and all you need to know are the SIP server details for your VOIP service - for me that information was contained in one of the welcome emails I received when the service was activated.

What I love most about the phone being running on my PC is that it can't ring if the PC is not turned on, or if I've put it in DND mode, because the only incoming calls we used to get on our landline were from telemarketers since friends and family tend to default to our mobiles.

    • I am looking for a 3CX system. May I know who is your 3CX provider please ?

      • I'm with iiNet, 3CX is just the software I use to access my VOIP service so provided your ISP offers a vOIP service then you should be able to set 3CX up with it.

      • I am with Internode and I use FreePBX hosted on a RaspberryPi (rPI).

In my FreePBX I have two lines (both with Internode): One exclusively for incoming calls (no monthly fees) and one for outgoing calls. I pay $10/month on the 2nd line but I get $20 worth of calls.

The good part of my FreePBX is I installed BlockList (call blocker) and I've also installed Lenny. So all my blocked calls get diverted to Lenny.

      • Thank you for the information! I am actually looking for a new 3cx provider for a small business that I work for
