I need a colour laser printer. My main concern is the upkeep and want something that will be great value using cheap generic toners.

I want laser I have had my fair share of inkjets and I'm over them. Currently using a brother b&W laser and love it but need colour.
I have a brother laser printer with a 1200 page yield toner…but the toner only lasted about 500 pages of printout. far less than what i would expect :(
Brother laser printers come with a "starter" toner cartridge good for about 700 pages (or 350 duplex pages). The drum that came with it is a full sized drum though (Brother have a separate drum).
I have a Dell c1660w. It is a colour laser.
We don't print that much so its cheap purchase price was a big factor, but it does use generic toner from ebay, so refills aren't too expensive.
I would suggest finding a couple of likely candidates and seeing what the generic toners cost (if available) per page, knowing the figures can be wildly optimistic. At least it will give you a point of comparison. I find that the generic prices drop as the model gets older, presumably as more manufacturers of toner start supporting it.
If there are any modern printers that don't have smart cartridges (that include a chip to report toner levels etc.) that would likely lower the running costs.Post what you end up going with so we can get some feedback on what current deals are like.
Cheers mate will do. My only concern is after research and buying compatible toner getting error messages etc. Would prefer some feedback before the risk!
