Hibiki 12 Year Whisky $159.99 @ Vintage Cellars

160

Visited the Vintage Cellars in Beecroft Sydney and happened upon this. The guy at the store said there were 12 cases (3 per case) at this store.

Might be some in other stores, YMMV.

On mobile so can't link, but for comparison, it's $209 @ Dan Murphys +postage

  • Is this a good buy?

How much are they in Japan? (I ask as I'm heading there in a month)

    • +3

IIRC they were about ¥5000 in stores. 12yo is quite easy to find, whereas 18 or 21yo are a bit more tricky. If you're after the 18yo or above from Hibiki, Yamazaki or Hakushu, I'd recommend you go to Yamaya in Shibuya near the station (I paid ¥24000 for a bottle of 18yo Yamazaki and a friend who I recommended paid the same for a bottle of 21yo Hibiki).

      • Thanks for the comment ftweet, out of curiosity, how long ago did yourself/friend purchase from Yamaya? Heading to Tokyo soon, and want to definitely take advantage of this reasonable price!
Also, assume it's the Yamaya store ~4 min walk from Shibuya Metro Train station?

        • +1

I purchased from Yamaya about mid December, and my friend about a month ago. The stock will be changing, so you might get lucky with something rare there but it's definitely a great store and also tax free too (kinda reminds me of a DM/1st Choice). And yeah, not that far walk from Shibuya Metro Train Station. I think its closer to the Metro platforms than the JR Lines due to the exits it's located at but nonetheless a short walk from the Shibuya Crossing if anything!

  • According to this it's cheaper in Spain than Japan. No idea if it's accurate.

And this price is quite good by world standards.

  • Wow.. ta how much I paid for the 17 years in Japan 2 years ago

  • Was impossible to get any non-NAS Whisky in Japan when time I was there year, so this is probably a good pickup.

  • A mate picked up a Hibiki 12 and Yamazaki 12 for me for $139 each at a local Thirsty Camel only yesterday. The deals on Suntory whisky are out still there :)

    • Which Thirsty Camel is this? Do they still have stock? Looking to get one. Ta.

ROFLOL! Thirsty Camel! I very much doubt it. As far as Vintage Cellars goes, they claimed that Hibiki 12 is discontinued stock and unavailable.

      • It is a Thirsty Camel in Adelaide that has this stock. Nothing above 12 though.

        • Again I'm ROFLOL! That mob stock only the cheapest brands out there…. all blended whiskies and only two single malts in their whole range, the standard boring Glenfiddich 12 yo at $65 (most expensive of the lot) and the Glen Grant Majors Reserve at $48.

Give me the address of this Thirsty Camel and I'll be there in a flash. Either your mates playing games with you or you are doing the same with us.

        • @phixxy:

ROFL all you like - I'll be busy drinking $140 Yama 12

        • @martino:

Anyone can put up a picture that's three years old and say it was taken last week. Please give me the address of the Thirsty Camel I asked for… not some old pic!

        • @phixxy:

          "ROFLOL" - no chance buddy.

I will however share the invoice once he mails the package over to me - with address blacked out.

          Happy hunting.

        • @martino:

Please don't bother…. I'll drink the Yama 12 and Hibiki 12 I've got in my pantry now…. I paid $109 each for the Yamazaki 12 yo from Dan Murphy less than two months ago when they stuffed up their pricing.
