  • Hey guys! my current plan with virgin mobile ends in march so I'm going to snap up the $30 for 12gb such a good deal! :)

But just a quick question - when I'm out the check out stage and filling out the 'keep my existing' number for them to port, the DOB of the account-holder is auto-filled with my DOB. However, my virgin mobile account is under my partner's name/thus his DOB as the account holder. Will this be an issue when Optus tries to port my number? (i.e. they wont be able to port my number because my DOB does not the virgin mobile's account holder DOB) Hmm do you guys think the best solution is for me to change my partner's virgin account details to my details? Let me know what you all suggest.
    TIA

    • yeah, the accounts need to be in exactly the same name and d.0.b to port

  • Looks like they just changed the samsung galaxy s7 deal.

The $65 is no longer selectable, now the its the $70 deal with only 10% discounted

    edit: nevermind its back

    • Thanks Simon, got $40 SIM only plans for $30.

      • Awesome! You're welcome mate.

  • +2

To add some actual detail to help assess whether a bargain, the cheapest handset+ monthly plan is $30/month, and the cheapest sim-only plan is $22.50/month.

Think this should have been in the header/opening post.

    • -1

odysseus - how many handsets do Optus sell? How many plans have they got? Various size phones. Quite hard to put all the detail inside the post - it all depends on what you select. Too many variables

      • No. Just the from is required as people want to know the cheapest, not the dearest, to assess the bargain.

        For example:
"25% off New Optus Monthly Mobile Plan (F&F). From $30 w/handset, $22.50 Sim only. First 10 Redemptions Only."

        Pretty easy…

  • IS it worth waiting for the S8 :/?

    • +2

No, the S7 is an amazing phone and at $49 for 7gb you'll probably be paying nearly double for the S8.

Just a quick question to the many optus employees here, my current plan runs out with vodafone on the 13th of april. I have chosen to port my number over.

I have gone through and purchase the $40 dollar plan for $30 through one of the links.
To avoid an early termination fee with vodafone, is it possible to just activate the sim I receive some time in mid-april and still receive the discount? The terms and conditions seem a little unclear.

    • Also interested in the response for Bettercallphil's question.

    • I'm not an Optus team member, but in my experience the answer is no. They activate/port the SIM themselves in a couple of days if you don't manually do it as soon as you receive it. Sorry buddy, you'll get early termination fee applied from Vodafone.

From Optus' website: "Most postpaid Mobile, Tablet, Home Wireless Broadband and Mobile Broadband SIMs are automatically activated within 24 hours of delivery."

    • yes - i've done that before :)

Family and friends who sign up by 31 March 2017, must activate their new service by 30 April 2017.

      • yes but then the link may expire, can you manually specify a date to port and order now?

        • previously i requested via live chat and was told porting could be delayed up to a month - it ended up being 3wks between signup and activation

    • I just had a chat with Optus as I'm in a similar situation. The rep said that sims are automatically activated and ported within 24 hours of delivery. Therefore you can't purchase the sim now and choose when to activate it. Rep said that the only way around it is to delay the delivery date (apparently you can choose when to have it delivered in the checkout process). However you can only have delivery delayed by one month.

I'm not sure if that's the correct info though as the terms and conditions state:
"Family and friends who sign up by 31 March 2017, must activate their new service by 30 April 2017."
This implies that you can choose when to activate the service.

Hopefully another rep here can clear this up.

      Edit:
Reading through some more posts in this thread, it looks like it's been cleared up here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/4487244/redir

$10/day 50MB roaming is terrible though vs. vodafone $5 unlimited data

    • -1

It's the only way their service shines, abroad. #vodafail

  • a quick question - i'm an optus postpaid customer. can i bring my wife's number over to this deal and we share the data? thanks,

    • yes you sure can :)

  • I assume there would be no charge to unlock the phones.
However are the phones unlocked when delivered or do they need to be unlocked.

    • all optus phones on contracts come UNLOCKED.

most providers do these days. but not all

  • +1
  • Can someone please confirm if I get this plan with Samsung S7 and I've existing cable broadband contract for 2 years I will get extra $20 off if I call Optus?

    • yes

  • Hey guys, is the S7 Edge worth the extra $? Reviews suggest it's a little better.. just not sure if it's $10/month better..

    • Yeah definitely worth the extra 10 bucks.
The larger curved screen is the way all phones are heading.

      • Thanks Huey, appreciate the thoughts. I was on the cusp but I think you've pushed me over :)

        • I have the S7 Edge, and find it just a little bit big for my hands. The curve screen also makes it a little prone to just randomly press the curve navigation.

Having said that, I absolutely loved my S7 until I lightly dropped it and cracked my front screen :( So remember to buy protection on day dot!!!

Oh, and I'm not moving to the S7 to see, since it's so cheap anyways :(

        • @parker1:

You definitely need to buy one of them cheap clear cases, palm rejection still not right yet.

  • If we are already on Optus and our plan is about to expire can we jump on to this? There doesn't seem to be a section for existing customers where we can just put in our login details.

    • +1

It's just for new service numbers so if you want to avail this promo, you have to dropped your existing number. According to optus chat i've had a while ago.

      • +1

I was thinking that too. Or you could port to Optus Prepaid and port back.

      • when I look at the plan details it says for new and recontracting customers… so I'm hoping they just do it correctly

      • I'm on optus prepaid, can I get this?

      • Well the Sim only $40 Plan (which is $30 after 25% discount) says other wise, last sentence:

        12Gb Data
        8GB + 4 GB Extra Data for 12 Months
        WHEN YOU BUY ONLINE
        New and recontracting Services Only

        • so to clarify it would accept:

          New number's
          porting numbers from other providers
          OR optus pre paid numbers

  • Are the iphone deals better than buying outright and grabing a plan?
Seems u atleast get the free Netflix streaming when a phone plan is chosen over a BYO.

  • Good on you guys for sharing links here, hope that there will be some left on the last day of March which i plan on getting this deal to maximise my existing contract.

    • i personally will try to remember to update this page with link at the end of the month :)

  • anyone know, when porting from say virgin, do you still have to cancel your account with virgin after the optus is active?

    • +2

No. The virgin plan cancels automatically after the number is ported.

      • awesome, cheers

  • Did anyone get an email right away to confirm the order? Or does it take a while?

    • Mine took ages to come through but eventually did, maybe between 3-4 hours

  • Thanks OP, purchased S7, hopefully I will get promised $20 monthly discount on my broadband plan as well.

    • i thought this deal can't be use in conjunction with any other offers?

      • Yeah not sure, people talk that you should get $20, I've also asked on Optus chat about this specific offer and guy told me if you have broadband you get $20 off.

        • +1

if that's the case, you've hit the jackpot =) you should've grab his details in case your $20 discount doesnt show on your bill.

I think they meant no other offer with mobile plans.

        • Hey raspudala,
Are you saying that you can get an additional 20$off your broadband bilk ontop of the 25% off your mobile plan? If so it is a crazy good deal

        • @bargainfinder: Optus are saying my broadband is not eligible for the discount so be careful

Can you get 2 for the family share deal?

  • Can i place an order but not make it effective for a couple more weeks until my Telstra contract ends?

      • thanks, how?

        • +1

you reply NO to the Automatic SMS they send asking you if you're happy to port now or not. NOTE: this text is only sent once delivery is successful.

        • @olivia livo: thank you

        • @olivia livo: Does your billing cycle start from the date you received the phone/ the date they process the order or does it start from the date you activate the sim?

THANK YOU OPTUS EMPLOYEES for sharing the links!

  • because we all love another %25 off link. here you go guys!!!

    https://offer.optus.com.au/employeeadvantage/offer/?in=OPTUS…

  • My current contract is up 16 april,
If I sign up for the sim only plan will they immediately try and port over my number and start the contract or will I have until my current plan runs out?
I don't want to pay 2 months of the current plan if Optus immediately starts the purchased sim plan.

    • +1

they won't port your number over, only for new service numbers!

      • I just got most of the way through the application and there is def number porting.

You have to check new service or transfer number

        • number porting applies to service numbers from other providers not from current Optus customers.

        • @angelkulit025:

My current contract ending in April is with Virgin

        • @Cral42: well you didn't indicate that on your first post eh? it says you have until 30 April to activate the new plan so probably you might be eligible for this but contact Optus Chat for assurance.

      • yes it is for ports as well

      • How? Do you have to activate the sim on receiving it and then they port?

I am just worried they will automatically do it early if I approve the number porting

        • The number would port automatically with 24 hours of you receiving the SIM in mail, UNLESS you reply NO to the Automatic SMS they send asking you if you're happy to port now or not. NOTE: this text is only sent once delivery is successful.

        • +1

          via live chat :)

          porting occurs after sim activation

        • @olivia livo:

Checked with live chat and they said porting won't occur until sim activation but you have to activate sim within 30 days.
