eBay buyers abusing return policy - whinge post (sorry!)

This is more of whinge post,

but lately the amount of crap we get from buyers abusing eBay return policy is through the roof!

  1. Buyer orders the wrong product, we sent it but they somehow expect us to pay for return cost
  2. Buyer havent even received his product yet and he somehow claims we sent them the wrong product…
  3. Buyer claims we sold them a fake, goes and lodge a dispute and send us a empty envelope with tracking, with the hope they will get refunded because the item is shown as "delivered"

Now considering eBay don't half a rats ass about seller ratings, we have to deal with these peeps like a 2 year old, because their feelings are highly volatile.

If you are a seller on eBay, do share some of your favourite tales.

  • I had a few buyers make purchases but then message me saying it was unauthorised.
There has to be a big phishing scam going on, accounts getting hijacked.

Aceboy884, do you actually sell fakes?

    • Nah mate, we've been posting on ozbargain for 5+ years
ABN, company addresss open to all

Selling fakes will eventually land you in court.

  • what stuff do you sell?

  • eBay does too much to protect buyers especially after people have realised what they can now do with the return policy.
    What happened in these cases?

    • +1

Because they make money when people buy stuff, not when people post stuff for sale.

There will always be sellers. If there are less sellers due to sellers moving away, that means less competition so higher prices.

Higher prices mean more fees for ebay.

If they scare away buyers there a less sales and lower auction prices.

  • The sad thing about all of this for casual sellers is that Gumtree tends to be even worse with time wasters.

    • I have sold some things recently and I can say that facebook swap and sell groups was a lot better than Gumtree. So many more people interested.

I actually had a buyer who lined up a time to come and buy some speakers. He didn't show up and I was annoyed. I was just about to leave a message on his Facebook account saying "thanks for the no-show" which I decided against. The next day he rocked up and bought the speakers. I am glad I kept my cool now, lol.

  • I have something on a lightly different tangent.

Bought something on ebay over a year ago and I had not received it after 6 weeks. I messaged the seller and told them that and they asked me to wait for 2 more weeks which I did. after 3 weeks I contacted them again and they refunded me.

Fast forward to 10 months later. I received the parcel. The box trashed and the contents slightly damaged. I feel bad for the ebay seller.

    • 10months? wow. was this purchased overseas?

  • Sold a PS4 game with no offer of a local pickup, no request. The guy tells me when he can pick it up like I can just drop things to meet him. So I tell him no and offer him a chance to back out. He decides to pay for postage at 9am in the morning and expects me to post it that day and messages me like 3 times for updates. It was almost as annoying as random messages from people telling me my description was bullshit because it was a Collectors Edition of a video game that had been unboxed but still brand new (didn't say it was sealed) I never heard back from that clown. Also hate selling things to overseas sellers because to keep things competitive you can't really have a delivery option that is expensive but then people just up and open a dispute on you even though you've told them give it time, it will arrive
