Will You Fix Your Interest Rate or Wait?

Dear OzBargainers,

Just wondering how people react on this poll?
Do you think should people fix the loan now; or you think they should wait.
Bank has started talking about hiking interest rate and a few major banks have already increased on investor home loans.

What are your thoughts.

Thanks in advance.

I highly doubt interest rates are going lower.

  • I am on a fixed rate now, I have been since I bought my home 12 months ago. Would it be worth me looking for a better deal now?

    • -1

it should be, since interest rates are lower now than a year ago.

  • Was on Variable. Just fixed for 2 years. will see after 2 years if there will be any good deal to reduce IR further.

just my personal opinion, when banks put in effort (advertising/promoting) for fixed rate homeloans, I'll keep my mortgage float. When banks are quiet about fixed rates, that's when I'm looking at fixing, but I've always go through a broker.

3 basis points won't make much difference to me.

    Greedy bastards!

  • Well depends on what rate can fix it for, if you can fix for under 5% for 5 years minimum I would fix.

  • If I wanted to fix my rate with my current lender, it would mean paying an extra 0.5% PA and limit my early repayments, so I'm staying variable to keep throwing in additional cash and might fix it once the principal has been dented hard enough.
