iPad or Android Tablet for Kids > $300

Hey everyone,

One of my friends is after a tablet for his 2 kids so they can play games and watch youtube. He doesn't want to spend too much. They're 5 & 8 years old.

Thanks!

Is that supposed to be less than $300?
Also Your friend's kids don't need an iPad lol

    • Yes it is. Did I get the " > " sign wrong? If so, sorry :p

      • It's an alligator's mouth which is open towards the bigger number

Because the alligator is a greedy bastard

  • The kids don't need an iPad.

you can get the neos flek 10 from Harvey Norman for about $99, otherwise the Lenovos are not bad as I believe they sit under the $300 mark. Ipads will set you back around 400 for the mini I believe and close to 600 for the new ipad

  • No one else got suggestions or links? Even if you see something on gumtree (victoria preffered) do let me know please.

a little late a reply. hope i am not too late. ozbargain deleted my comment bcuz it seems there was something wrong with my links so I've removed them.

if you go with Android, the Xiaomi mi pad 2 is good value for the specs (AUD$250-$300) despite the chinese name it's a very capable ipad mini 4 competitor from early 2016…. so long as you apply tempered glass screen protector to it! (about $10 plz dont skip on this).

$272.8 @ Banggood (use the 20% coupon on the page)

    $280 @ Gearbest

warranty gonna be a bitch through these sites unless you can find it being carried in a respected Aussie store somewhere. Also make sure to pay via Paypal so you are protected.

great battery life and gorgeous screen, only let down is the 2GB RAM which means if you eventually convert it into a windows 10 PC, it will not be so capable.

    $96 (officeworks) http://www3.lenovo.com/us/en/tablets/android-tablets/tab3-se…
Cases can be sourced cheaply on ebay. Cameras are poor & no compass is offered, but otherwise the best value under $100 in Australian retail at the moment, in my opinion. Can connect a keyboard & mouse with a $1-$2 "USB On The Go" (OTG) cable from ebay. Can pop in a MicroSD card for gigs more storage. Can work with standard USB Mass Storage for the memory card, when connecting to PC.

If that doesn't satisfy, check out the 10-inch Lenovo Tabs at Officeworks (or wherever). $196
iPads are extremely restrictive and expensive, in my opinion. But then again Apple don't do 'budget'. And their fans don't seem to miss out on the things I look for (a file system…file managers, easy keyboard & mouse connection, unrestricted read/write file system access to USB sticks, etc.)

  • Lmao a 5 year old with access to the internet and YouTube rip future generations.

    • RIP future generations? A bit harsh.

I'd be more concerned about pervasive and constant wi-fi exposure in schools and at home, and the pervasive hardware and software spywave in each of these devices (which nearly everyone accepts without modification or fuss), along with the acceptance of State-approved spyware social network infestations in each of these devices, along with diminishing free-speech rights and long-gone privacy. And crap corporate food, including lovely GMOs. And the brainwashing of the masses to accept consatant wars on their tax dollars while few profit from resource theft and drug cultivation.

Future generations will do fine. Those that wake up to what's going on around them, that is.

      • Yes but then once they know all of this at the age of five how can she slap?

        • Up to the adults to guide, nurture and limit exposure to undesirables to a 5-year-old. First part is knowing they exist & why they exist.

      • Amen to half of what you said, but…constant wi-fi exposure? And '…lovely GMOs', implying…? Just wasn't sure if these two points in particular were playing into the whole cancer-causing thing, perhaps I totally misinterpreted.
