Reminder: Call You Electricity Supplier for a Better Deal

Hi all,

Just a gentle reminder that you can probably save some extra money on your utility bills.

I plugged my details into this website and discovered a better deal than I was currently on. I rang my provider, said "I have this offer, to save me the hassle of switching, can you match it?" and they gave me a bigger discount than I was currently on, and backdated it to the date of my last electricity bill.

Took maybe 10 minutes on the phone (most of that on hold), and will save a decent amount.

Here's another tip if you have a Gmail account. With websites like these (and if it lets you) use your email address but add a + symbol eg. [email protected].

Emails will still reach your inbox but it will let you know who is selling your private info to other organisations and subsequently, spamming your inbox.

I didn't put in an email address as it wasn't required.

  • Just run through the scenario and all the results worked out higher. Guess I should be happy I picked well (Dodo power and gas).

  • Also remember to check all possible discounts - as an example I got a bit better deal when I found an additional discounts for NRMA members. All that requires a lot of time, as various discounts are all over the place.

  • Yes a good reminder, and these recurring costs are the ones I don't think about but should be.

  • thanks. for my case, dodo will save total $46 each quarter (for combined elect and gas)

    Similar experience to those above

I used energy watch and found a better deal and started the process to switch. Before switching, my current provider called me and offered me an unadvertised rate and better deal (39% discount for paying on time).

I called the company I was going to switch to back, and they again offered me an even better deal (20% discount for a lower rate, $100 efpos card upon switching, no lock in contract).

So it was about three phone calls for me, but ended up with a much better deal than any providers list on energywatch.

    • +1 for you! let them fight it out and see whos offering the most competitive one.
