With the rise in price of flash memory over the past few months, this seems to be a decent price for the newest version of this SSD.

Enjoy

  • With the rise in price of flash memory over the past few months

    More floods?

      Demand and supply

      http://m.crn.com/news/storage/300084307/channel-partners-str…

Also probably flash memory manufacturers reducing supply to keep prices high and thus increasing profits

      • The manufacturers are allowed to reduce supply to artificially inflate prices?

        • They move their production to higher density chips and hence larger and more lucrative drives eg 500gb 1tb, 2tb etc.

          Why not ?

If you do some research, you will find history of companies dumping rice and fish in the ocean to control prices

        • Yes, I know, it's amazing, duh gummints doesn't force the business to lower prices like they would if we were communists …

  • +1

Cheap if you need a small one ;)

  • Shame about the price increase for the 480.

    • I'm glad I stocked up with SSDs last year when the prices were decent after getting a tip from a late that works in the industry

      • Yeah still have some unused 1tb and 750gb unused SSD drives …Ready for steam, PS4 and tv box… People were too busy tyre kicking comparisons with Sammy 850 instead of buying bargains last year.

        • I did the exact opposite unfortunately, I tend to sell my old gear and buy new stuff for myself. I sold a heap of SSDs (500 / 1TB) and thought I'd snap up bargains - it's stung me bad.

      • Seriously it's been a disaster, the DDR4 memory situation is arguably even worse - it's very close to double the price.

  • Can I Easily put this in a USB3 2.5 portable case?

Want to use it for the Xbox one.

    • Yes , should be ok as most SSDs are the size of a 2.5" HDD

Some are thinner though and need an adaptor , google is your friend

    • Yep work fine …I have 500gb hanging off mine.

    • Note that the Xbox itself states that hard drive needs to be a minimum of 256 gb. Might want to double check that it'll work first.

  • I went to buy a 1tb SSD the other day and was shocked how expensive they are ($400+).

I am sure I bought some about a year ago for around $300….

    • Yep so did 1

    • Look at amazon USA their should still be some drives around 300$ but they are the crucial etc ones the low teir budget ones, if you want high quality high speed long lasting drives like the Samsung 850 you will be looking at 400+. Although I thing they are about 292$ on amazon.com with shipping it should come to slightly under 400?

      • Yeah I have about 5 x 1tb Samsung 850.

I am sure I paid about $300 AUD delivered from the USA for at least 1 of them about a year ago - prices have gone up substantially. The higher NAND price and the exchange rate both working against us…

        • Yea I picked up two Samsung 1tb 850's over easter for about 600$ for the pair. These steam folders are just getting to big now days.

    • there was one time the sandisk 960gb went for under $200..i should have bought one…

  • MSY have the 120GB for $65 as clearance, plenty of stock. Good price for basic/secondary usage if you want local stock.
