Cheap Chromecasts on eBay?

I am looking to purchase a Chromecast 2 to replace a clunky old media box connected to my TV. Product is currently $59 at JBHifi.
It can be had on ebay for as low as $27, but this seller looks a bit dodge and it's not from Australia, despite the location specifying otherwise. I suppose the main risk is that warranty goes out the window with these OS sellers.
Do you have any recommendations on where to buy it from?

Yeah that looks dodgy as shit

"For Google" - and there's their way out!

    • I was reading that bit and I'm like what does "for" mean?
      Now I know!

      • yep. whenever there is "for Samsung", "for Google" etc, it mostly is never genuine.

  • Just look at the seller's location… China. It could be legit or it could be a knock off EzCast adapter.

    • Thanks for the heads up. I wasn't sure if counterfeit products existed for such a device which is why I asked. I will give it a miss and wait for an Aussie retailer sale for around $35-$40.

      • Concerning when this one on Ali has 500+ orders with no product feedback.

      • Keep an eye on the tag

  • I got a mobile virus popup from accidentally following one of the links on that page

  • Hi OP, I also have an issue where my parents hand me down digital LCD tv (the old - takes 2 people to lift style ones) doesn't have built in smart tv wifi and apps (like my small Samsung one in my room used to).

Just trying to work out how I"ll stream Netflix or other online media services. Would you or others suggest a chromecast? It only works with chromecast enabled sites though?

otherwise to access general websites or other streaming (anime lab, viki, crunchyroll etc) I would need something else that can plug in?? I think it has hdmi, not sure about USB ports, so wondering what my options are. Are those cheap usb style NUC computers ok? or does one need a media centre to connect up to their older tv to access these sorta sites and media?

(short of connecting up my old laptop to the TV - if it even supports connection)

    • I'm no expert but can't you stream basically anything off your phone or tablet with the MiriCasting software?
I was previously using an old core2duo desktop tower running Kodi as my HTPC. I have since scrapped Kodi because it isn't user friendly and am using a product called Stremio. Stremio has a much smaller volume of content but it's easy to navigate and works out of the box. Stremio requires a higher end computer to run. I am currently connecting my core_i5 laptop to the TV via an 8 metre HDMI cable to stream content. It's not the most elegant solution and it would be wasting power running two devices but it works in the meantime.

  • "For Google", and in the description, under Package Content is "1x Wifi Display Adapter." Almost definitely fake (clearly trying to cover themselves with the description in the case of disputes).

  • look what brand it is says unbranded/generic. FAKE

  • Very late comment, but I bet a fiver that this is what you'll get.
