Jetstar is having a 13th birthday sale and are offering the return flight for free on many domestic and international destinations. Various travel periods apply from July to March although peak travel periods are excluded.

    These deals are good for some. But for a family of 4 Canberra to Tokyo, by the time I add the plus bundle and select seats to use the bassinet on board, its only $400 extra to fly Singapore Airlines and land in Haneda. Plus Singapore fly straight from Canberra instead of me driving or flying to Sydney and needing to stay overnight to catch the 6am flight out.

    Picked up Syd - Cairns return ($129) and Cairns - Tokyo return ($239) all dates lining up in November for two people. Works for the most part of October and November if anyone is interested.

    Best time to book is right about now. Biggest sale of the year it usually crashes after 6am.

    Book via the app if the site crashes.

    You can also use this changing bookings. Just changed my last return for free Hawaii fare from last years sale for travel this month to 2018 for the cost of $170 in change fees! Better than throwing the airfare down the toilet if you can't travel no refunds!

    Before you book just remember that they are no obliged to get you there on time or on the day that you booked. We have been stung multiple times. Below is the clause they whipped out when we tried to get compensation for lost connecting flight accommodation and car hire.

    9.1 Schedules

    (a) Jetstar does not guarantee it will be able to carry you and your Baggage in accordance with the scheduled date and time of the flights specified. Schedules may change without notice for a range of reasons including but not limited to bad weather, air traffic control delays, strikes, technical disruptions and late inbound aircraft. Flight times do not form part of your contract of carriage with us.

    (c) If, after you pay for your Booking, we make a significant change to the scheduled departure time of your flight or the flight is cancelled (except where this is due to circumstances beyond our control) and:

    this change means you are unable to use your Booking for its intended purpose, and
    we or our Authorised Agents cannot book you on another flight which you are prepared to accept;
    we will give you a fare refund. Unless provided for in a Convention or any applicable law, we will not be responsible for paying any costs or expenses you may incur as a result of the changed time or cancellation.

    3.3 Travel Insurance

    Because travel involves many risks, and our liability to you is limited, you may choose to purchase travel insurance, which can cover things like:

    changes in travel plans and travel cancellation,
    medical and hospital expenses,
    personal injury and death,
    delayed, damaged or lost Baggage and other items, or
    missed flight connections and additional expenses.
