KLM booking, 3 legs on Etihad metal. Want to upgrade them to extra leg room seats.

Hi, we have a European trip in July and I've booked with KLM. I've gone onto the KLM website and upgrading all the flights that use KLM planes to exit row or comfort plus seats.

The three biggest legs are using codeshare with Etihad and on their planes. I don't have the option to upgrade the 3 biggest legs.

I tried calling Etihad and they said I would have to wait until checkin and hope I get asked if I would like an upgrade.

Does anyone have any other ideas how I can secure these seats before the 48hour deadline? i have a KLM booking reference and ticket numbers, but not an Etihad booking number.

Secondly, I need to book flights from London - Amsterdam - Copenhagen - Barcelona - Milan with 20kg luggage each.

Who's got the best website?

  • Have you tried calling KLM?

    • Yeah I'd give KLM a go but doubt they'd be able to book it for you. If Etihad doesn't want to play ball then there's not a lot you can do apart from maybe call a day or two before the 48hr and ask again.

For flights in Europe it depends on how strict your schedule is etc. London-Amsterdam I'd just catch the Eurostar if you need luggage as end to end will probably be quicker, it's a different way to travel and around the same price with luggage.

For the other flights skyscanner.com is best if you're flexible with days, Kayak.com and Momomondo.com are the best if you're looking for the cheapest ticket on a set day(especially for full service airlines) and then can see who to book through if the airlines aren't the cheapest. Most flights will probably be cheapest flying a low cost/medium cost like EasyJet or Norwegian(or even BA now) and paying extra for luggage. Just check they fly to the major airport apart from Milan where I find BGY/MXP/LIN about the same for arriving though LIN or MXP might be best for departure as traffic can be bad to BGY depending on the time of day. Alitalia is going bankrupt so I wouldn't buy a ticket on them as there's a chance you won't fly.

  • Use Google Flights to look for your suited flights. Remember to change your currency. After finding a cheap flight on Google Flights, go onto iWTF to see if they have even cheaper alternatives. Otherwise state what dates you prefer and I'll find them for you with at least 20kg baggage.

    • Thanks for your reply and the offer!

      London - Amsterdam 10JUL17
      Amsterdam - Copenhagen 13JUL17
      Copenhagen - Barcelona 16JUL17
      Barcelona - Milan 21JUL17

It will be 2 adults with 20kg luggage required each. Really want to be arriving at the next port between 3pm and 8pm.

      • $865 for two adults (there weren't many flights that could make it in time to the destination airport between 3pm and 8pm)
        London - Amsterdam $150
        Amsterdam - Copenhagen $205
        Copenhagen - Barcelona $405
        Barcelona - Milan $105
with Vueling & Norweigan Air International (both airlines incur a fee for check in baggage)
Here is the Google Flights link

        Instructions to get 20kg Baggage
Vueling - Select 'Optima', this will cost around $50AUD each passenger per flight.
Norweigan Air International - Select 'LowFare+', this will cost around $40 each passenger per flight.
You'll also get to choose your own seat with these options.
        Hope you found it helpful!

        • @nxllson:

I had to muck around with some times and select the airports that aren't a long way away from the city centre, but ended up with under $1000! Thanks

Hope I helped a bit, enjoy your flights :)

        • @2jzzzz:
Just a word of warning, the price will be at least $1100 after adding all the luggage and extras.

Should go with my version, much cheaper than yours, haha you left out the extras! If you still prefer LHR etc, you could go with your option.

  • Don't book on flights which codeshare

    • +2

I'll just hop in my time machine and pass up $1100 return flights on full service airlines to Europe in our school holidays, thanks champ.

      • Did you manage to get extra long leg seats ? At Chekin ? Did you have to pay extra ?
