50GB+50GB = 100GB total for $70 a month with no lock in contract.

Month to month or can be contracted on a 24month deal with a modem.

Edit: I just bought one this afternoon. I can confirm it comes with TV and Music streaming free.

  • Has anyone tried streaming Netflix to the TV to check if the data comes out of the plan?

    • it works as long as you play in from phone app.

      it shows up in data usage as $0.0 transaction line item whereas the others will be "-"
      Also Optus app shows % of use for Netflix

        • means it only supports native Netflix app - guess its how they 'tag' usage. so NOT applicable when you play Netflix from desktop browser.

          Think about how they can display data usage breakdown in Optus app

          So it works when tethered as well however speed is limited to 1.5Mbps for all device connected. (As per Optus T&C)

      Really happy with speed etc. I'm 1Km line of sight from the tower. Speed is great, next project is to make some Yagi antenna to get max speed

    With the 24 month option that includes the tablet, does anyone know why the tablet cost is $840 when it retails for $669?

    Edit: Spoke at length with a sales agent who could not explain it. There's no cancellation fee however, there's a difference of $171 between the tablet and the RRP. To me, that's a hidden cancellation fee.

      I am not an expert on this but I believe that it depends on the CCTV system that you are using.

      When I used a standard cheap IP Camera, I had to obtain a static IP address and use port forwarding on my modem to view the cam remotely. Now I am using Arlo Q as a CCTV and it’s really plug and play – no need to worry about static IP address anymore.

      • Hmmm might start a thread on whirlpool to see if anybody knows. It's a SWANN CCTV system so I assume they come with DNS.

  • I have had the 100 gb plan for about a week and it has been really good. Although, the last few days I have been getting disconnected from the net every few minutes. It has been cloudy and raining for the last few days and I wonder if that is causing it or whether its the fact that this plan get less speed as a rule. Anyone else experiencing this?

    For those who are thinking of going on this plan to replace their adsl service and want to share this sim across their home network, I purchased this combo last week and it's been going strong and relatively simple plug and play.

    Modem- E3372 Can be purchased directly from optus for $29 or found on sale sometimes at coles for half price.

    Router- tplink Mr3420 3g/4g wifi router can be purchased at most computer stores like umart for $42. This has 4 ethernet 10/100 ports, usb for the dongle and 2.4GHZ Wi-Fi.

    Hope this helps some people out as there was no definitive answer on the interwebs whether the E3372 was compatible with the mr3420 but I can confirm straight out the box the v3 mr3420 works with it.

      • I'm not sure, it's a pretty old modem, you're going to have to do some research if it supports 4gp

  • I'm considering joining this plan but wanted to try the optus network within my area before signing up.

    On a mobile plan, I'm using an unlocked telstra E8372H but I haven't changed any settings on it. It's connected to 4G with 4 bars but my ozspeedtest is only 8.52mbps (compared to by 35+ mbps on nbn).

    I'm wondering if there are any settings I can optimise to make it faster? I read multiple posts in whirlpool that the APN is auto so I'd rather not change it as I still have my telstra sim that I'll use interchangably.

    I read earlier in the thread potentially forcing it to Bandd 3 (1800Mhz) with LTE watch may improve the speed? Or will buying a dedicated 4g modem like http://www.optus.com.au/shop/broadband/mobilebroadband/e5186… improve the speeds?

    To those who took up the offer… how is the service going and what devices are you using?

    • I'm happy with the service. Download 80 mbps upload 8 mbps using Huawei e5186. Way faster than ADSL. I'm in Box Hill North

  • Is there anything even close to this price using Telstra 4G network? Telstra month-month 80GB is $160, so hoping for cheaper through a reseller.

    According to Optus coverage map I'll only get 3G in the area I plan on using it(North Warrandyte), but even that's probably still faster than the crappy DSL in the area.

  • I spoke to one of the optus reps and he said this SIM will only work on this modem they supply. He said if you put this SIM on your mobile, it won't work. The SIM is locked to the modem apparently. So purchasing your own modem won't work apparently. Can someone confirm please?

    • Not true. I'm using in an old pocket wifi I have. I did use in mobile, but made sure I had text message switched off, so no extra onerous charges could be made. (Didnt knownif it would send an automated test text)

    • The Optus rep is misinformed which is quite sad.
      The 100GB mobile broadband sim is not locked to the modem.
      The 200GB Optus Home Wireless Broadband however IS locked to the modem.

  • Just clicked into my second month for this deal.
    Checking data usage, I used a surprisingly miniscule 7.84gb all month.
    Which is either a mistake,or Netflix isn't counted when data is used in an old 3g Optus pocket wifi I had in the cupboard.

    (19Gb Virgin mobile data plan gets chewed every month, as does the Kogan $1/14gb sims I chew through.)

    Can you confirm that? Or do you only use SD? Was thinking netflix would be a big part of my data if I used it in a 4g plus modem for home data.

  • What is a good cheap dongle for this? Its for home use, so portability isn't a requirement.
