I did a four day hike to Machu Picchu. Absolutely, breath taking experience.

    Long story short:
    - Arrived in Cusco, Peru not long before the hike = unacclimatised to the high altitude (lack of oxygen)
    - Had a fever and severe flu = sore throat = dry throat = constantly trying to lubricate with saliva = couldn't breathe due to swallowing
    - The most simplistic walks up slight inclines were incredibly tough being unacclimatised and sick, however, I "embraced the suck" and just kept moving one step at a time.

As I struggled, these 50 year old porters wearing thongs, carrying 30kg bags on their bags were conversing whilst having a leisurely stroll.

Managed to score a date with a smokin' hot chick. Was doing shift work at the time, and was rostered on for two 12-hour shifts, 4:30am - 4:30pm on a Friday & Saturday. SHe was only available for the Friday night…

So did my Friday shift, got home and had a shower, changed, picked her up and took her out for what I had planned to be an AWESOME DATE that she'd never forget. All went very well - dropped her home at 3am, went back to my place, had a cold shower to wake me up, got into my work uniform and headed straight back to work. Then did my next 12-hour shift straight through. All up awake about 40-hours straight, including 24-hours at work.

Definitely paid off though - we've been married for just over 18 years now… :-)

      what a story!

if you don't mind me asking, what line of work are/were you in? interesting shift times!

      • At the time, I was working at an Australian international airport. Normally did 10.5 hour shifts, bu we were doing a 2-month trial of 12-hour shifts to see if it would work out better… :-)

Mine was being made redundant from my first Software engineering job in New Zealand. Got on a plane to London the next week, got a job paying GBP37.50 p/h after 1 day of looking for work. Went from earning NZD40k, to the equivalent of more than the NZ Prime Minister in less than 2 weeks.

Shame the dotcom bust happened 6 months later but hey ho.

    • But the NZ PM gets to touch hair to earn his and gets knighted.

      • Yeah lol. this was a bit before his time, but Sir Helen Clark has a nice ring to it.

        • John Key has just been knighted this weekend. You've got a whole Fellowship of the ring going. You've got my creepy hair touching. And my dentistry.

    3) 2016 - Wife and I both quit our jobs and backpacked for 6 months in Asia and Europe. I guess the achievement here is didn't get divorced. Not easy to be with someone 24/7 travelling but we did alright.

    • I toboggan black.

  • I got out of bed, tomorrow I will attempt this great achievement again and when I dont, its because Im dead!

Very well, where do I begin? My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink, he would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Some times he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy, the sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical, summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds, pretty standard really. At the age of 12 I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen, a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum, it's breathtaking, I suggest you try it.

Greatest achievement? Surviving childhood and my teenage years. I'm so scared for my kids.

About 4hrs or so of free play for being undefeated on 8 player Daytona USA at Parramatta Intencity

    • wasn't there a trick to Daytona where you let them lap you a couple times and the computer assist would give you some ridiculous speed to catch up and come first?

      • It was just a case of all cars that arent in front, went faster than the car in front … hence making it more difficult to stay in front and win.
And yes, the further behind you were, the faster you'd go … people always thought i was joking when id tell them id give em a lap head start and still beat em lol

I've only purchased the $10 popcorn bucket twice since release…

Also, considering no one has said it yet… My watch says I've walked 32Km and I didn't even have to leave the house =)

    • How long did that take you?

      • The popcorn bucket or the 32Km walk?

        • The 32km "walk"?

@John Kimble: Only took a few hours and a couple of boxes of tissue.

        • @ProjectZero: A few hours??? Jeez, I'm lucky to last a few minutes! You must also have a lot of time on your hands (excuse the pun). Enjoy while it lasts!

        • +1

          @ProjectZero:

          What the?

          I think you're doing it wrong ;).

        • @John Kimble: @UFO

I believe there was a bit of a misunderstanding… 32Km was not achieved in one session in the day… had to do multiple consecutive sessions. ;)

        • @ProjectZero: bwahaha

        • @ProjectZero:

Ahhhh…. now that makes more sense. Still, quite an achievement nonetheless. Well done :).

  • 10 days past his due date, gave birth naturally (and without drugs) to a beautiful future OZBargainer

    • Congrats!

You mean you haven't already created username ozbargainbub for them yet???

  • Undertook a year-long student exchange half way across the world in Sweden, never having traveled alone before, or even lived away from home. The hardest thing was moving back home though (and won't be able to move out in the foreseeable future), losing all the freedom, living 90min away from campus (compared to 5), involved with now zero student life and dead broke. Absolutely amazing experience however, and would do it again in a heartbeat!

Running a half marathon without training….ranking most probably last place….regardless of that I finished the race feeling nearly half dead and then took a quick rest which I fell asleep for an hour at some random grass patch.

Woke up like an hour later feeling really hot and was super hungry.

So I rush and drove to the nearest fast food restaurant, it was Burger King (known as Hungry Jacks here) ordered a family meal

    4x burgers
    4x fries
    4x drinks

Ate all up like a person never ate for days……then left the place feeling back to normal.

I will never ever do a stunt like that ever again.

  • skydive in Queensland last year , its really awesome

  • My greatest achievement is… I guess staying healthy is the greatest accomplishment i did haha…

  • Convincing @MishyMoo to buy the Homtom HT17Pro.

  • Its late on thread but hey.. When I was around 20 took a little plane and brought a friend along for the ride. Mum was outside her house and so I decided to dive it from a few thousand feet towards her to put on a bit of a show. Pulled up at the last second in time to miss the power lines by around 20 meters (gotta be safe you know), then zoomed off back to the airport asap just in case I got reported. Yeah classed as stupid to some but that was prior to Sep 11 before the whole of the country got into a frenzy. Do that nowadays and you could wind up with the federal police on ya. So it felt like a fun little achievement to me :) Mum stated it was very loud.

Oh I guess another plane related achievement was on my first ever area solo believe it or not a massive storm suddenly blew in from the ocean. I could barely see in front to land it. Missed on the first go and almost ended up in the drink. Said a prayer the second time round and managed to get her down safely. Was kinda fun but very scary.

  • in the 90's, first try, rescued the princess in smb1 in probably 5 mins, considering last time i played the game was in the 80's.
