Looking for a Samsung 850 Pro 1TB SSD

I have seen some past deals for the Samsung 850 Pro 1TB for around $450AU but cannot find any current deals close to that. I currently have a Samsung 840 Pro 256GB and need the extra space so not sure if I should go with a cheaper 850 Pro 512GB or just jump to the 1TB and be done with it.

  • Futu Online via eBay has deals with 20% off code: CRACKA20

    Crucial MX300 1TB - $360 (from $450)
    Samsung 850 Evo 1TB - $428 (from $535)

No Pro version though unless you want the m.2 NVMe style.

Crucial is slower but cheaper. Samsung is faster but more expensive.

  • Just go with the 850 EVO, there's hardly any difference between the 850 EVO and 850 Pro, speeds are not noticeably different and you won't be using the drives long enough to see any differences in longevity in the NAND. They both use SATA interface, so that's the limiting factor anyway.

All of the new Pro drives use the NVME (M.2) standard, which is PCI-e based, not SATA, so offer much improved read/write speeds which are not noticeable in day-to-day use, but definitely if you do a lot of I/O operations. I find that it's noticeably faster in that big apps and games load faster, but it's not a huge deal.

For 1TB drives, I'd recommend what KitchenSink ^ is saying. But given their prices, if you have an M.2 slot, MSY are doing a 1TB Intel 600p for around $420, I think (from memory, have to check), which is leagues faster than any SATA drive.

I managed to find this deal http://www.euroits.com.au/product.asp?ManufPartNo=MZ-7KE1T0B… for $543 but they want $39.19 for shipping (total of $582.16) which really kills it (still cheaper than everywhere else I have seen so far.

I will need to check but I am very certain my board doesn't have M.2 which is why I am after a SATA SSD.
