Bargain on HP Microservers

Hi guys,

I'm on a budget and looking for another HP Microserver N54 or higher like the gen8. Or even similar from other manufacturers at a good price.

I havnt seen any ozbargains for a while now on the Microservers.

Any help would be great thanks.

  • Just my 2c on the HPs. They are good units, but after your 1 year warranty runs out HP wont even let you download bios/driver updates. They try to get you to pay for a warranty extension to get them. Nothing a bit of creative torrenting can't get around, but its a big F-U to their customers.

I don't think HP makes Microserver any more. Have a look at HP Proliant ML10 v2 though — Warehouse1 have them for $199 (although it was once a lot cheaper).

For something more beefy, maybe checkout older Dell PowerEdge T110 on eBay. For less than $400 you can get one with E3-1240v2 + 8GB RAM. Those have 4 3.5" drive bays as well.

  • I've never had any problems finding the bios updates for my n54l. I've been eyeing the ml10 v2 but I'd much prefer the smaller microserver form factor. Poweredge looks nice but it's a bit over my budget. I got the n54l for a little over $200 if i remember correctly, can't belive they've gone up so much. Hopefully warehouse1 have a sale on them soon otherwise i guess i may have to go with the ml10

I got a brand new boxed N40L from eBay for $125 delivered a few months back, currently have 4 of them going strong. throw in a 6450 1gb AMD gpu and 16gb ram, its the best HTPC/NAS/emulation box money can buy. 6 bay NAS cant get any cheaper than this.

  • Who'd you get it from? I'd prefer the n54l for ram expansion and performance but at that price I'd certainly grab one.

ebay seller, just have to keep checking they pop up fairly often around that price if you are quick.

thats 240 brand new from a shop, what ram expansion do you want? I put in 16gb ddr3, which is fine…. I haven't tried 32gb ram, so not sure if it works or not

      • "For Limited Time include Free 250GB Sata Drive"
nice how they upsell something that is included by default.

  • I read the 40 is a lot more picky then the 54 about what type of 16gb ram are used. Yeah 16gb is all i need for a microserver lol. I'll keep my eye out for the 40 then.
