Local Stock, Standard 40-50" TV Replacement

Skip to bottom for suggestion (TL;DR)
I usually help everyone with picking out specific computer parts and even monitors so it does feel a tad weird having to ask this but the truth is, I've just been using my 50" LG 2009 model plasma (just as everything started to get "Smart") - Paid around 1300$ it on special from the good guys and now has sat, doing exactly what I've wanted it to for the last 8 years.

I need a monitor to replace it since I've recently moved it to my own personal workplace (cutting cost anywhere!) and it fit in the cut-out for the TV that was already there perfectly.
I thought I would be fine using other small TV's for a few months until I had some cashflow in the buffer and I could just buy another 1,000~ TV.. But I think that is over for now and I'm just going to go bang for buck.
I looked around and it seems I've missed most of the EOFY deals for TV's by now and am just willing to go for local stock (don't get me wrong I can wait a week but it doesn't seem worthwhile).

So, JB-HiFi has (Best bang for buck in low-range?) https://www.jbhifi.com.au/tv-home-entertainment/hd-televisio… and ill probably pull the trigger if I don't get any opposition or different advice here.

Thanks as usual :)

I've had a Soniq for 3 years. Still going strong. $299 for a 42" is a decent price.

    • The impatient/take my money side of me loves this comment (But you do definitely help in saying its a decent price and I'm not wasting 100$ just choosing the wrong one).

After realizing I could use gum-tree to recoup losses I think I will just grab this one today!

Personally, I'd keep waiting for a nice deal.

    My opinion on TVs
You keep these things for years, so you're better off buying something high quality which will go the distance, then look for the best possible price. If you've got a TV already, then it isn't really an urgent purchase, so just wait for the right deal. I recon there will be a few more before EOFY sales finish.

    • After a PM and the first comment I probably am just going to do exactly what you said, I have the same beliefs.. I do need a TV in my room or i'll end up crazy.

In my eyes the "in-between" model at $299 will probably just sell on gumtree for 200$ when I get a worthwhile screen.

      Appreciate your time!

      • Otherwise bag a second hand one from ebay. I scored my parents a 4 year old Panasonic 39" TV for $105. They barely watch it, but it replaced the 66cm Sony Trinitron they bought for $650 in 1990 from jb HiFi in camberwell

  • Made my decision, thanks for the help guys. Would anyone here try bargain in-store for the low-pricepoint soniq I linked or is it still JB-HiFi taboo?

  • Just had a 55" Sony TV die on me after 3 years 1 month now using the spare room 42" 8+ year old aldi TV. Thought the Sony would last… I'd go the $299 one if you need one now.
