New Lawn Mower - What to Buy?

New lawn mower neeed. Suggestions and advice will be most appreciated.
I'm in the market for a new lawn mower and have a budget of approx $500. Having previously had mowers with Briggs and Stratton engines I'm inclined to be a repeat B&S buyer. I have a medium sized yard to mow, nothing out of the ordinary, which takes about an hour do: 45 minutes mowing and 15 minutes trimming fence lines and path edges.
I'm curious to know if Rover mowers (and other mower manufacturers) have sales/promotions with reduced prices, similar to the way Stihl occasionally does for its products, and when they stage them.
Thanks in anticipation of suggestions and advice.

I'd just buy the cheapest one with a B&S engine. You should be able to get one at Bunnings under $400

  • Try and buy a Honda powered mower if you can. They are worth the extra money.

$499 at Bunnings. Subaru engine. I doubt there is a more powerful mower without a seat. https://www.bunnings.com.au/ryobi-190cc-subaru-4-stroke-lawn…

I get my lawn mowers from ebay/gumtree (usually non-working) - never pay more than $20 each or free during hard rubbish collection. out of the 12 I've picked up over the last 12months only 2 wouldn't work. I on sell them or give them away. usually I just need to replace the spark plug and put in a new filter. plus sharpen the blades and change the oil.

B&S seem to be the most reliable.

lawn mowers aren't complicated. there is youtube to assist.

  • Was also looking for a new Mover, from our OZB expertise, do you recommend a Battery / Electrical / or Petrol one?

Something that will last a few years or require little maintenance ..for a medium size lawn.

    Thanks in Advance

For medium size plus … Petrol 4-stroke. Change the oil according to instructions.

        cheers mate

  • What is the opinion on the Ozito battery powered lawn mower? I see Bunnings reducing the price from $399 to $300 recently. Was wondering if this mower is good enough for a small lawn about 30m2 or so?

    • I've never used one but it should be adequate for 30 square metres.

I've got a ryobi battery mower, it does about 200m2 on a 5ah battery if the grass is under control.

        • So 30m² should be a doddle.

@PJC: for 30m2 a corded one would be even cheaper and not a lot of dragging a cord around.

        • @Euphemistic: Yes, that is an option.

  • Any EOFY sale on Lawn Mowers
