Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum - Virtual Walls under Rugs?

I'm enjoying my new Mi Robot Vacuum, just received last week after a recent Ozbargain post. Performance has been great, my only problem is that I have 2 sofas that are just high enough for the vacuum to go under, but they will eventually get stuck. The virtual walls (magnetic strips) are the obvious solution, by my sofas are sitting on a rug. I have heard that the magnetic strips can work from beneath a rug - anyone had any experience with this? I guess the strip needs to be on the floor (ie can I affix the strip to the underside of the sofa?)

Update: I ended up using these rubber castors from Bunnings - they do the job and aren't too expensive. https://www.bunnings.com.au/castor-cup-square-tic-41mm-sq-br…

Try and find out if it works for you

Correct. and if it doesn't work under the rug, then put it on top of the rug, just under the sofa. It doesn't need to be stuck down.

I had the same problem, i put 2 of those door snakes under each stopped the problem.. couple of bucks. not much other choice otherwise cant let it do its thing unattended

    • Door snakes are a good idea - I guess they were heavy enough to be a barrier to the Robot Vacuum?

If it's only a centimetre or two, why not lift the sofa a bit with something like this under the feet. That way it also cleans under the sofa:

    • Great idea, as ideally I want it to clean under the sofa too :)

  • Thanks, that might be just high enough. Will have to give it go!

  • can you please drop a link to the post with price for it? looking for one as well :)

  • Using door snakes myself does the trick to stop it going on big shaggy rug it gets stuck/confused on. Works a treat everywhere else.

    • Wait does the Xiaomi bot come with any virtual walls?

I need some for a stair case that a snake won't do.

      • Does not come with but can be bought online or allie express for about $25

  • Hi, I have just received the MI robot yesterday (thanks to the offers at OZBargain) and put it to the test, however found that it tries to climb over the legs of my furniture and hence I keep getting the error that the wheels are suspended in the air. I am at work now and can't get the wheels down until I reach home this evening.. but does anyone had a similar problem and a possible solution? Lifting the dining table isn't a good idea :( Cheers!
