  • nob question - I have old halogen in my house, looking at replacing them all.

if i get these, i can just basically pull the plug out from the current ones and plug this in? (I've seen my install in my roof, each halogen currently has a plug each and a transformer).

also - if one of these fail, can the globe be replaced? or the whole set needs to be replaced?

    thanks in advance.

    • +1

If your downlights have an AU plug, you can definitely just plug these in.

      • Yes, it as long as what you connecting to is an AU standard power socket.

Electricians can build a new circuit inside the roof and install the roof socket, all you need to do is plug the downlight in this socket.

    • +1

Sounds like you have MR16 Halogens. These would plug in as full replacement.

If they fail, the full unit is replaced.

      • Yes, that's right, we will replace the faulty lamps by sending new ones.

    • +1

If you have dimmers then they may need to be replaced - as halogen dimmers are not always compatible with LED

      • We believe it is necessary to check the specifics of the dimmer to see if it is compatible with low wattage LED downlight.

    • +2

Yes, it sounds like your electrician has pre-installed the roof sockets in your ceiling.

If the driver of the halogen downlight fixtures has a standard plug on the end of the cable that connects to a roof socket,

then it should be an easy DIY job for you.

Step 1 Switch off the main switch in your house/apartment
Step 2 Take out the old halogen downlight fixtures from the ceiling hole along with driver
Step 3 Disconnect the driver plug from roof socket
Step 4 Make sure the ceiling hole that Halogen Light has lefted is 90mm in diameter
( if it is smaller than that, you need a 90mm hole saw to expand it)
Step 5 Plug the cable into roof socket
Step 6 Attach the SMD LED downlight into ceiling hole
Step 7 Switch on the main power supply and test

Guys, correct me if I am wrong, just did it the same way for my recent home renovation.

Attention, if any part of the job involves wiring or installing siwth/dimmer/sockets plug, it has to be done by licenced electracain.

Thank you - I'll check everything this weekend and make a purchase - hopefully you have around 30+ left this weekend ;)

        • No worries, we are glad to help.

Thanks for your comments by the way.

        • @Lectory LED Lighting:

update - it seems each of my lights doesn't have an individual plug - the electrician must have joined them all up - each have their own transformer - so is there a bulb that I can just buy and plug into the existing halogen slot?

        • @sbm888:

Yes, but the first thing you need to find out is the socket size for the halogen slot.

          It's normally GU10 or Gu5.3.

A reasonable LED replacement bulb for GU 5.3 slot will be "Philips Master LED MR16" but that's around $14.95 each.
(of course you can find cheaper Non-brand Chinese version MR16 from eBay if you just want something that only "Does the job").

Philips Master LED GU10 is currently the most popular bulb for GU10 downlight slot.

You can find the best price amount AU eBay sellers, there is a "price war" going on there.

          There is always another option,

          Check this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEsRvKLjw38

I believe electrician will not charge you too much for wiring a new roof circuit with this easy connect roof sockets.

Then you can do the rest of the job your self.

        • @Lectory LED Lighting:

Thanks. I've got the gu5.3 halogens.
So basically I can buy any 5.3 from your website? It doesn't have to be the Philips I guess?

        • @sbm888:

Yes, Gu5.3 LED Bulbs will be an easy solution.

I'm sorry, we don't carry any GU5.3 bulbs on our Web or eBay site.

You can search "Gu5.3 bulbs" on eBay to find them from other sellers.

Yes it doesn't have to be the Philips, but please try to get some branded bulbs.

There are Youtube video posters saying cheap, non-branded LED bulb has high fail rate and there might be a chance of catching fire.

Oh, there is one more thing, these GU5.3 bulbs have different beam angle options, try to go with a wider angle between 90~120.

        • @Lectory LED Lighting:

Thanks, shame your website doesn't have any GU3.5?!
so i just leave the original transformer and fittings as they are, only replace the halogen bulb with LED and that will work?

        • @sbm888:

You might want to check the specification of the transformer (usually printed on the PC cover) and see if they support Low wattage LED bulbs.

    Hi rep
Do you have a special on the remote controlled downlight that can be controlled by phone app as well. My freind bought some downlights that have dimming and temperature controls. They can be controlled via supplied remote or phone application. They are the flat type.
    Cheers

    • Yep, we carry Philips Hue series downlights , these are the WIFI remote controlled downlights which can be dimmed and colour temperature adjustable.

How ever, it requires a Philips Hue Bridge to operate.

Please let us know if you are interested in these downlights, we are happy to provide more detailed information.

    5. If shipping is required, state the shipping cost to major Australian cities if this information is available; approximate range is ok if the exact cost is variable or not available. (Store representatives must provide this information - there should be no reason to hide this from potential customers.)

    • Thanks, we will edit the deal description and refine the shipping section.

      • Thank you.

I have these in my house and they are great. We went for the sunlight white color which in hindsight was probably suited to a more modern house than ours but either way, great value and performance.

    • Thanks for your comment.

I found it was a hard choice for me to pick the right colour temperature for each different room.
So I decided to install 3 Philip Hue smart led down light in my kitchen/dining room, just can't stop playing with them on my phone LOL.

Got so excited, will show it off to my mates on weekend party. If there is going to be one XD.

    Hi OP,

I just placed an order and was sent a 15% discount code…. :p

Seems counter productive, will you discount a further 5% off??

    Thanks

    • LOL, this 15% is a private Coupon Code for returned customers only.

15% discount on the invoice can not be applied to these 10W/12W SMD LED downlight.

We allow it to be displayed on our invoice so only the returned customers can see it.

Oooh, please keep it as a secret, we might have to disable it if it gets spread over everybody.

(Discount code can not be applied over on each other, it might work for other branded LED downlights - Philips GE)

      • I feel 10 bucks poorer now :( …. hehehe

        Thanks for the reply OP

  • Hi Rep - what are the lights actually made out of? Metal or plastic?

Also - with standard shipping from your ebay account it seems to be cheaper?

    Thx

    • I wish we can upload some photo to demonstrate what I'm going to explain.

It's basically made out of 2 main materials

      Plastic and Aluminium

More specifically, there are 3 components in this SMD LED Downlight.

      • Front Cover & Refactor - Lamp cover with frosted PC diffuser that is glare proof and an Aluminium reflector right under it.

      • LED panel & heat sink - Under the reflector ring, there is a round LED diode circuit plate mounted on an Aluminium heat sink.

      • In-build driver (another circuit panel with capacitors, transistors and PCB) which seat on the back of heat sink

The whole lamp is covered by die-cast PC shell to protect the components and insulate from the out side.

Our eBay listing charge the same price with $8.95 flat rate postage to any quantity, but on the website, we offer 10% discount on total and charge actual shipping we pay to our courier.

We believe as long as our customer doesn't buy a small quantity from remote areas, buying from the website with coupon is a better option than buying from eBay.

  • After buying 10 of these I just noticed you can get a quantity discount (and also the 10% ozbargain discount) if you buy 3, 6 or 10. Pity I didn't notice this before, I think the seller should have realised and automatically given the discount to me instead of selling 10 x full price units

    • Thanks for your comment, we made these listing with quantity discount available for the coupon code in order to give out a little benefit to bulk buyers.

By looking at these few days sales records, we can tell that majority of customers were buying through quantity discount listings, together with single unit

listings combined to get the best price for the exact quantity they after.

Sorry for having complicated website listings, they might be misleading somehow, please shoot us an Email with your invoice number so we can work out a better deal for your next purchase.

Hi OP, I have just built a house got batten lights from builder. I need about 55-60 LED downlights. Not sure what I want. I would like day white temperature for the whole house unless you shade some lights on some other options?
Also what are the difference between led and led kits?
What else do I need other than LED lights for the installation? Eg. transformers?
Also I have 4 bedrooms and 2 living areas in my 30sq 2 story house.
I would like some dimmers. Where can I install them? Bedrooms, living areas?
I do need some lights for my external walls. What are my options?
Deep down inside I do want smart lighting in some areas. They're bloody expensive tho. I wouldn't mind exploring the options tho.

A friend is also building a 4 bedroom 3 living room 42sq house. If you convince us with the price, we might both get all the materials from your site.

  • Hi,

Daylight White is typically from 5000 Kelvin to 5500 Kelvin, we have 5500K Dimmable/ Non-dimmable downlight kits available in 10W and 12W.

    First question:

A LED downlight kit contains everything you need to install an LED downlight.

    The fixture,
    the LED driver,
the Cables Plugs and the LED downlight itself are all included,

A LED downlight is just the lamp itself, other components like driver and plugs need to be purchased separately.

    Second question:

You don't need LED drivers for these LED downlight kits, but you might need a 90-98mm holesaw.

Each LED downlight kit need to be plugged into an AU standard power socket /roof socket, alternatively one or few high safety standard multiple socket power board.

    Next question:

Dimmers are usually installed in the light switch plate, so you have the dimming Knob right next to the gang.

For the details about external wall lamps and smart LED lighting, please shoot us an Email to [email protected], we will reply you some info about the products with pricing and then we can go from there.

    • Sent an email.

      • Thanks for that Email, just replied with a quote, please let us know if you have any enquiries.
