Somebody tell Apple and Google we don't like 16GB, 32GB and even 64GB phones with no micro-sd slot!
Why aren't the f**kers listening lol

    • +17

Can someone tell Apple and Google I don't like phones that cost over $500?

      • +1

Are you suggesting you like a 32GB phone with no expandable storage for $1000?

        • And last year's processor.

        • Apparently I don't, or I'm not meant to.

  • +14

Always wanted a Pixel XL, then I got an LG G6 for less than half the price.

    I reckon I chose wisely.

    • Yes you make sense… 64gb/micro-sd/dual sim for $500.

    • Any thoughts? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dChIbwDm5E4

Im going to buy LG G6 but a bit hesitant.

      • +1

Reckon that guy's talking a lot of shit.

    • Nice. I had the same thought when I saw this deal. My LG V20 cost less than half of this Pixel price. With 64GB/MicroSD/removable battery. I'm loving it.

      • V20 aussie stock? From where?

        • Not Aussie stock. The import LG V20 does have Aussie bands though.
This Kogan deal isn't Aussie stock either though, I'd imagine, so still comparable for less than half price.

    • Heard LG G6 camera is not as good. Please comment.
Have a LG G3 and love that phone. But recent screen flickering issue requires expensive motherboard change
Where did you get G6 for half that price?

      • You can buy it at a number of ebay dealers for high 500's. A decent ebay coupon brings that way down. I've seen it here recently for about $475. In fact, I'm waiting for a repeat to replace my wife's phone with a G6.

      • +1

I managed to grab one for about $480 odd from one of the Ebay deals near the end of June…. Ripper deal.

Camera is pretty great IMHO but I doubt it's as good as the Pixel. I've heard the Pixel is one of the best, if not the best, smartphone cameras around.

        • Thanks guys.
Most of the reviews say the phone is good, but the same camera as earlier version so nothing to write home about.

    • i glad you like a g6

$899.52 Delivered @ T-Dimension eBay with C5OZ code. Another grey import option, although Kogan would probably be better for warranty purposes.

Or $1098.01 Delivered @ Mobileicit for AU stock with C5OZ code. I'd pay an extra $70 and get local AU stock from Mobileciti rather than this Kogan option (or grab the $899 option from T-Dimension if you are willing to risk having no local warranty - for $200 less it might be better).

    • +1

Extra $70 from Mobileciti is a no brainer over Kogan. Local vs Import. Not having to deal with Kogan is worth the extra $70 right there. And Kogan is + shipping, Mobileciti is free shipping unless i stand corrected, so that $70 is probably closer to $50 with postage factored in…

      • Shipping is factored in with that comparison. It's about $99 cheaper before Kogan shipping, so about $70-$76 cheaper with Kogan shipping depending on your postcode.

      • Agreed. Dealing with Kogan post purchase? Nuh uh.

  • +1

Surely the s8 from mobileciti at $100+ less is a better option.

    • -1

Samsung is never a better option.

      • Except when it's better value and a newer phone…

        • +5

Except when the "newer" phone is from a company who:
          * Takes forever to release Android updates.
          * Butches Matías Duarte amazing UX design.
          * Delays Bixby and blocks alternatives.
          * Attempts to block unlocking of the bootloader.
          * Releases phones that blow up.

        • @PainToad: So, apart from those things…

And yes, the main reason I moved away from Samsung was the shitty TouchWiz UI and months of waiting for OS updates and the forgetting about their products as soon as a new one is released. Sure, Samsung make some nice phones, but they are not "better value" by any stretch of the imagination.

        • +5

@PainToad: I'm actually sick of these generic statements. I will address your points.

          1. They don't take forever. The Note 7 was one of the first devices to receive 7.0. S7 received it 2 months after release. Even the S6 got 7.0.
          2. They don't butcher the "amazing UX design", they provide themes. You can theme it just like stock with ease and freedom. At least all the apps are themed the same, and when in AOSP you need to download a bunch of apps to do basic smartphone functionality, but they are all themed/design differently as they are third party devs.
          3. Blocks alternatives. Please tell me how Samsung stops you from installing google assistant on your phone. Please tell me this.
          4. Attempts to block unlocking of bootloader. Is this like what google is doing with safetynet and dual partitions?
          5. They did release a phone that blew up. Google also released Nexus phones that bootlooped and bricked themselves.

Pixel Xl has the worst bluetooth of any phone I have had. I have had the MIC issue and the random reboot to hard brick. RMA no 3 right now.

Google is a great company, but man oh man are they slow. If it wasn't for companies like Sony, Samsung, Apple, LG and HTC, google would be no where. They are still so far behind the game.

        • +1

@pegaxs: Well better value would mean more features. All 8.0 is giving you over 7.0 is what? Tell me know what features you just can't wait an extra month or two for. I mean maybe Google will update my Pixel XL with working bluetooth, or waterproofing, or a modern design, or a better speaker, or how about a software design that doesn't accentuate oled burn in? Nope.

I'm not a samsung fanboy, I try to buy the best product out at the time. After returning my Note 7, going to the Pixel was like going backwards. I mean it's smooth and fast, but that's it. Literally does nothing special, nor anything besides being smooth and fast better than the Note 7. The Note 7 had FAR more features both hardware and software.

If only people would learn, look at the history of botched updates on Nexus lines.

    • +6

Personal choice. If you love Samsung devices, then buy an S8 for sure.

I personally love my Pixel XL and I cannot stand Samsung's software choices. I wouldn't swap mine for an S8+ if you were offering me $100 to do so.

    • +2

Having owned 3 previous Samsung Phones. I dont think I can go back after purchasing my Google Nexus 6P. No bloatware. The OS is updated often and I receive monthly security updates. Even after over 1 year of usage, the general performance is still excellent. By this point, I would have rooted and installed a custom ROM on my Samsung phones. I would upgrade to a Pixel XL in a heartbeat, but the Nexus 6P runs so well, I struggle to find a reason to get rid of it.

      • +1

Can confirm. I own a 6P as well. Smashed mine recently and the only phone I could find to replace it was another 6P. Was going to get the Pixel XL, but I think Google are charging drug prices for it. Apple I can understand, because that's just how Apple operates. The appeal of the Nexus range was up to date OS, fast updates, stock UI, easily custom ROM'd and great specs with a great price point. The shift to pixel didn't really impress me for the current price point. At least the prices are coming down. Might update when this 6P dies…

        • Whereas LG G6 doesnt update at all. Still 7.0 with one security update. Thats it for a phone released in January. Such a shame.

        • Agreed, the pricing on the Pixel/XL is pretty ridiculous. Most retailers selling genuine AU stock are still selling them close to RRP even though they were released close to year ago now.

      • Just FYI Samsung S7 and S8 get exactly the same monthly security updates. If anything they get more updates as there are updates to their own software, and also updates to Android they push through. Also after almost 10 months, the pixel had only received one new set of features, and attempts at bug fixes. S7 got 2 new sets of features, new TouchWiz and new set of theming, and upgrade to 7.0 which was only 1.5 months after release of 7.0.

Also given that the pixel had less features than the 6p, and far less than the S8 while the S8 is cheaper

        • +1

But the phone is still filled with ample bloatware. While Samsung did show improvements with their more recent phones, apparently they have gone backwards with the S8 which contains more bloatware than the S7. Touchwiz lacks very good optimisation, and the OS will begin to slowdown after 6-12 months. Security updates may come in a timely manner, OS updates are few and far between. Only Google themselves are quite proactive with legacy device support, even the Nexus 6 released in 2014 has received Android 7. I do agree that the specifications of the Samsung phones are excellent, it's what made me buy multiple Samsung phones, but Touchwiz ruins the experience. They ultimately force consumers to root and custom ROM their phones, but in doing so it enters a grey area of will they honour warranty or not. I just got tired of constantly messing with custom ROMs and modifications to keep the phones quick and up to date. While I absolutely abhor Apple phones, there is something to do said about the simplicity of Google phones, they just work.

        • @FuRyZ: What FuRyZ said.

        • @FuRyZ: speak for yourself. I had note 7 for 3 months with not even a thought if rooting. Pixel for 1 month and it was so bland and boring with no customisations or apps I wanted to root. Also I'm on my 3rd pixel which is still crap. My 6p hard bricked. 5x bootlooped. Again after 1 year of owning the pixel, there has been 1 tiny update. Big woop. Also you say bloat, I say poweruser.

  • $999 or $1269 can buy you a very decent laptop! The review of this phone isn't particular great. If I'm going to spend that much money, I will properly consider the up coming Huawei Mate 10 which claims to be the better than iPhone 8 but cost almost half of the price!
