    OP's username checks out.

  • Are pump actions legal in Australia? That would be much cooler.

    • Yes, under cat D licensing.

    • Shotguns not since 1996 (well not for most licensed people, they're under Cat C/D depending on # of rounds, but near impossible to get) - but you can get pump action rifles legally.

  • -2

Yes pump-action is legal with all the same restrictions as these
Only no pistol grip allowed as it makes it concealable when too short
These lever actions were controversial because of an apparent increased rate of fire over pump-action
Like the Winchester lever action rifle there's also , potentially ,the ability to fire single handed,
but having never tried this with a fully loaded much heavier weapon ,I don't know if that's practical or even possible

    • Fire single handed? What the hell are you on about?

    • +3

Only no pistol grip allowed as it makes it concealable

I'm confused … having a pistol grip makes it more concealable?

the Winchester lever action rifle there's also , potentially ,the ability to fire single handed,

You mean like The Terminator? That's ridiculous, please stop advising people about firearms as your experience appears to have come from movies.

      • Ok then fellas , I think I see who has zero experience with lever action firearms

        • I don't want to get into a big argument about guns , just pointing out that lever action weapons can be flip cocked with one hand
Obviously you would need a light load with birdshot ,
to have a chance of firing a 12 gauge single-handed

(And not to be confused with whatever you saw at the movies which was possibly spin cocking a 410 or an 8 gauge).

For those of you that have never done this or seen it done,
Google- flip cocking a Winchester 30-30

          @Beach Bum:

Yeah, only thing you're going to achieve doing that is shooting yourself in the foot or face.

        • @choodi:really , must be nice to know everything

          Please

Tell us about your extensive experience with lever-action weapons

        • -1

          @Beach Bum:

My second gun was a Winchester 30/30 lever action. I had that for 15 years. Need to know more?

You seem good at shooting yourself in the foot, want to keep going?

        • -1

@choodi: sorry I forgot these things add a few inches to some people
Just surprised you are ignorant of the different ways to use a lever action weapon then

        • -1

@Beach Bum: Practically everything you've said in this thread has been wrong or misleading. Just stop embarrassing yourself.

There is enough misinformation about guns in Australia already without someone like you confusing people further.

        • -1

          @choodi:ok authority
I hope you can be a bit calmer then this when handling firearms

    • Pump-action shotguns are generally Category C in most Australian states (so long as magazine is 5 rounds or less), so no, not "the same restrictions as these".

Pistol grips are allowed on shotguns and rifles in most states, though WA and NSW don't like pistol grips or collapsable/folding stocks on firearms because looking scary = deadlier apparently.

I own 3x Category B firearms which are flat-out banned in WA, NSW and probably TAS due to how they look alone.

    • -1

Ignore this guy. He has no idea what he's talking about.

Pump-action shotguns are NOT legal. At least not on a regular Category B license. Pump-action shotguns, along with semi-auto shotguns and semi-auto rimfire rifles are a Category C restriction. Meaning you're average joe with a license will not be able to obtain one. Cat C licenses are reserved for primary producers (that can prove such a license is necessary), professional hunters, or clay target shooting. Recreational shooters and hunters cannot obtain a Cat C.

No one needs a gun for self defence. What do you think this is, the USA?

I'm a licensed gun owner BTW.

      • -4

No one needs a gun for self defence.

So basically your idea is that everyone can defend themselves without a firearm? That's delusional.

If the police were there crime wouldn't be a thing now would it.

  • LOL, and they of the BRAIN DEAD want $800+ for a flogged 2nd. hand one

True they are low quality, but they do the job and seem to last ok, and dont jam…much

You can post a deal for a shotgun but not a sex toy. Gotta protect the people from those dangerous butt plugs, Ozbargain.

      • +4

Guns are an integral part of the human experience and they're here to stay. They're a practical and often necessary tool for farmers, they're used for sporting activities, hunting, personal security, and the police carry them to keep our communities safe. Very rarely in Australia, a desperate or deranged person will use a gun inappropriately to harm another person.

There are extremely strict and enforced laws that dictate who can own a gun and how it must be maintained and operated. You are free to not own a gun but your irrational fear of guns does not afford you any moral superiority or the right to admonish others who do not share your gun phobia.

        • +1

I am merely questioning why it is permissible for a gun deal to be posted but a sex toy is not. One has the primary function of killing, be it livestock or human, the other is a plastic item one uses for personal gratification. It is quite ironic.

My children have been allowed to use rifles before (supervised by licensed owner, on farm, vermin control)…. pretty sure they've never even heard of a butt plug (and shouldn't learn about such things from OzBargain). Different kettle of fish.

        • -1

They've heard of dildos right? Same idea.

    • Please list other legal products/services that get you rattled.

      OZB isn't advertising anything.

    • So is your concern that they are 18 plus, because that would mean cars fuel and other car related products also couldn't be on here…

I agree with others, bargain guns are OK, but no neodynium magnets, no sextoys, many things and accounts banned often over petty things, including reasonable Neg voting.
Oz people I think don't want guns everywhere like america, so ads like this are basically offensive.

    • +2

      America has an inequality problem
Of which gun violence is a symptom
, perhaps you could compare us against Norway and see how your argument stacks up

      • -2

Perhaps you should get a job?

        • Perhaps you should get a life.

    • +1

The only place you'll see guns is at the range, when hunting and for farm use. Our laws don't allow it any other way. If you're going to suggest that the activities I've just mentioned are somehow illegitimate or distasteful, then you're not worth talking to.
