Bought Mountain Hardwear down jacket from Adventure Mega Store. Its losing 10-20 feathers a day. Took it back to store after 7 weeks and was advised that its normal and they wouldn't exchange. After some discussion they advised that they will investigate further however no guarantee of refunds or exchange. Also, I will have to go back to store to pick up. They won't ship it back to me!!
Does anyone else had similar issue? I have got another down jacket and it has not lost any feathers.
Not sure about Mountain Hardware specifically. I have been wearing my Kathmandu 550 downs jacket since late Autumn and there is hardly any feather coming out. It probably lose 1 feather a week if I intentionally spot it and plug it out.
I assume the leakage isn't thru poor seam stitching as that would be bad manufacturing IMHO………
I have a Macpac down jacket (prev Ozbargain special, probably their least warm down product range, so not a super puffy top of Everest model), it is only used for round the house wear so it is not being stressed by the weight and wear of a pack. I do notice the very occasional poke thru the nylon(?) weave of a quill which, if you pull you have lost a feather, nowhere near 10-20 a day, more like one a month.
Dunno if that helps. IMHO you need to put a bit about how the feathers are being lost (seam?, through the weave without being pulled? etc etc).
added on edit….I see a couple of replies now and I would agree with those - 10-20 sounds way too much unless you are really really mistreating the gear.
I've got a Columbia down jacket and I've worn it at probably 30 times in the last 2 months. I've only lost one feather during that time.
So what you've experiencing may be the norm for Mountain Hardware however it's definitely not the norm for down jackets in general

I can't say about mountain hardware specifically, but all down jackets loose some feathers, more when they're new and it should settle after a few days/weeks (depending on usage).
10-20/day feathers for 7 weeks sounds like a lot. 10-20/week is more typical from my experience.
If they don't replace it, easiest option would be to weigh a few 'new' jackets in store and weigh your jacket. They normally write the 'fill weight' on the label somewhere, eg 700gms. IMO, a 10% variation is probably normal. Anything more, it's probably not 'fit for purpose' under ACL. Take it up with fair trading.
