ALDI Glass Display 4 Shelf Cabinet - $89

70

Aldi is selling a Glass display cabinet that looks similar to the $99 IKEA detolf for $89 except Aldi's has a lock and the shelves looks to be on pegs. The detolf is very popular amongst figurine collectors so this just gives another option.

  • From the picture, I'm not sure if it has enough support for some collectibles (such as F4F, PCS, Sideshow etc). Looks like the glass is suspended on ledge on each corner?

It's only $10 cheaper than the DETOLF, the lock is a neat idea though.

    • My mate has this , the shelves are full of whisky bottles

I have the Ikea one, with whisky bottles on all of them

No issues with the weight on either cabinet

And he picked it up for $79 when they had it on 'clearance'

The dimensions are pretty similar too actually.

Also, change title to 4 shelf, not 5 shelf.

    • But you can put something on the top…

      • You could put another cabinet on top!

  • Bought the same one from Aldi last(?) year. Being that I have both the Ikea and the ALDI one, I know they are almost identical.

I don't live in the same house as where it is stored in right now, but iirc the only difference was in how the glass sat on top of the support beam.

Someone with an ALDI one can chime in here, but my memory of the ALDI one was that the glass sat on a sort of suction cup/pad(?) whereas Ikea's one sat on actual beams.

Again, my memory of this is hazy but I do know the ALDI one is $10 cheaper because of the way the glass sits. Other than that though, the dimensions were almost identical with the build process being the same (with the addition of the lock as well as the glass support).

  • Hmm… so the Aldi one comes with a lock, but the IKEA one you can install a light (although I guess the difference is probably only a little bit of extra work with the right kind of drill for the Aldi one)

If only the Aldi one came in colours other than black…

    • Make sure to put oil on the glass if you still, it stops the tiny glass particles flying about.

      • Oh I meant in the top of the case, which is composite, not glass, right?

  • Hopefully this isn't a similar model to the Fantastic Furniture one. I bought the FF one last year and spent hours trying to put it together but couldn't for the life of me get the glass panels to fit into the silly plastic strips to keep it in place so had to eventually pack it all back up and take it back for a refund.

    • I have a few of these Aldi versions and could not get those edge strips on either. Using mine without them installed. Quite confidant they are perfectly functional for my needs with them omitted.

  • Can anyone confirm that the Aldi cabinets are true black (not black/brown like the Ikea ones)?

Picked up one for the kid's Disney Infinity figures and we were really impressed - enough to go and get another. They seem a bit flimsy at first but once you've got them all bolted down they're as solid as a glass cabinet can be. Really happy with them, though we had a bit of a laugh putting them together.

And be warned - they're bloody heavy - almost 40kg (admittedly, the box does inform you of this)
