"What I hear from Australian retailers, and I talk to a lot of Australian sellers, is they worry about the effect that Amazon might have on their business,"

Is it just me? Or he really sounds like Trump?

      • +19

        Sounds like Gerry Harvey

      • Sounds like bull shit to me

We get calls from eBay reps once a month, asking why we don't sell on their platform

        • +1

          Probably not BS.
Amazon uses their sales data to cherry pick the best selling items and then sells them direct. They use their buying power to purchase/manufacture items cheaper and sell them at lower prices, eventually forcing the third party sellers out of the market.
Ebay doesn't compete with it's own sellers.

        • +3

          @stuckster:
          Much like Coles and woolies.
Say I'm a competitor to arnotts
To enter the market I must take the risk to make biscuit varieties without knowing teddies sell 100 to 1 Maria.

But Coles and woolies know exactly how popular each range variety is and cherry pick for their home brand ones.
It's no mistake pizza and BBQ are the only two flavored shapes knockoffs. The supermarkets are also anti competitive with manufacturing and producers.

        • @carlb:

Yep. Just like Coles and Woolies.
Amazon sellers are basically a huge product research funnel for Amazon. They take all the risk and Amazon eventually takes the lion's share of the reward.

In hindsight they were very smart opening the platform to third party sellers all those years ago. Has been very profitable for them. Note Profitable does not equal ethical.

But even though Ebay may be more "Seller friendly" they can't escape the fact that Ebay sellers will still have to compete with Amazon on price and speed of delivery.

        • @carlb:
          Spot on.
Not only which specific varieties of a given line, but when there's peaks and troughs in sales. Longitudinal datasets on sales figures at every price point too, so they know their target price and manufacture accordingly.

          They've got it sewn up.

        • That's why anyone who depend on either platform are doomed

      • It's gonna be yuuuuge! Trust me. I know yuge!

    • +8

"Local retailers don't trust Amazon, says eBay's new local boss"
I dont trust that guy's dodgy Mo

    • +11

"Australians prefer to buy from a local retailer, they prefer to buy from small businesses." <—- Clean up eBay and stop letting so many shifty sellers exploit item location. Ebay… More like Alibay…. Ebay should be concerned but they need to look internally first as they have lost the plot. Lots of sellers aren't happy…

      • +6

Right I notice they just dont remove dodgy overseas sellers for some weird reason.
I reported this company for selling fake branded apple covers (copyright) and they say that it's reported and nothing ever happens. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Original-Genuine-Apple-Case-Silic…
        Just a typical example.
Also so many Chinese based sellers pretending to be in Darwin. eBay is losing it's slim credibility

        • Just a couple of weeks ago I unknowingly bought a fake JBL Charge 3 speaker from China. When Ebay confirmed the case they deleted the seller's accounts and gave me a full refund! So they are definitely taking some action. It doesn't make any sense for them to allow bad sellers to continue trading on the platform. Perhaps they simply don't have the internal resources to action or confirm all reported cases… which is a problem.

      • +1

Same order items regularly location Sydney but the parcels end up with China part or Hong Kong post stickers week or two later.

I wish I could filter by sellers with abn

    • feeBay is getting worse. Without any feeBay discount, it is not worthwhile buying any feeBay item from AUS retailers listing on feeBay.
feeBay auctions are risky for sellers (especially casual sellers). Plenty of late payers and some people just bid for fun.

And, there is also PayPal. PayPal takes a cut as well.

      • Yep that's my biggest gripe as well

        So many fakes online

And the their seller policy attracts the (profanity)

      • Wow you managed to squeeze "feeBay" in there 5 times. Impressive.

    • eBay ran the same promo last year around the time of the new iphone release. They may be scared but if they were "really" scared thy would probably up it to a higher % off.

    thanks OP!

Been itching to grab a G6

    • Me too, but only crappy deals/sellers ATM

    • No decent sales dammit! Really want a G6 myself. Been looking for about a month as missed out on the last sale.

Not sure I'd pay this much over previous sales (cheapest right now is $540 shipped for a white) for grey market. Would rather pay an extra $100 for local warranty but can't find anyone even close to that for local.

    • +2

      Poppin' bottles on tha ice..

      • +1

        Feelin' so fly….

    • Me too, been waiting for a good deal to pop back up.

Judging by your comments, it appears we are out of luck :(

  • Lol wut. Nice try ebay.

577.15 after discount. For a grey import. This should be more.

    • +1

ebay doesn't set the prices, but they do charge the sellers selling fees so they have no choice but to mark up accordingly.

    • +9

Yikes, just pay the $21.85 extra and order directly from oneplus. At least you'll have less hassles for warranty and its a 2 year one at that too

      • Agreed

      • +1

And the free case from Oneplus.

        • To be honest, even at $577, the OnePlus 5 isn't worth it let alone $600.
It's inferior to the LG G6, so it must be cheaper than the LG G6 in a realistic scenario.
Not to mention the SG S7, although "old" is plenty fast, slick, endurant, waterproof, and has a great camera.

And yet the G6 has sold plenty of times around $460 back as far as May/June.
The SGS7 can be found above $400 too.
Hence, in an ideal scenario a OnePlus 5 (64GB) would be competitive when priced at ~$400 new, but we all know that aint happening.

Not to mention the SG S8 for ~$650, heaps cheaper than the equivalent iPhone X at $1,800.

        • @Kangal: How do you think the Brits feel, they're paying the bendover and take it tax - they're not far away from the source, but still paying GBP1000 for an X. At least for our price hike the damn things have to fly a bit further.

Bought 2 Xiaomi Mi5s Plus (beautiful phone) from this one seller for $385 but they are now $425 from the same seller…

    • Yup, bought one for my dad just a couple days ago and paid $20 extra. My OzB force is furious within :O

    • +1

If they're Australian report them to ACCC

      • +1

        For what? Changing the price?

        • +1

For jacking the price up before a sale

        • +2

@elitistphoenix: I don't get it. It's an ebay sale not the seller's sale. So who do you report? Have any ebay sale accc reports been investigated with any outcomes?

        • -1

          @wolfshooter:

Ebay tells sellers the sale is coming. Sellers put up the price.

          Its illegal.

        • @wolfshooter: Seller. They'd get advance notice of the sale and jacked the price up accordingly.

What good is a single use phone?

Might as well just use a payphone. :/

    • Nice riddle.

    • It's called a burner. Disposable phones and numbers useful for calling bikies

      • +2

        Or the ACCC 😂

        • +2

Good point. Get two phones. Call bikies on one, ACCC on the other. Film the meeting for Youtube views.

          Any discounts on GoPros?

    • This Redmi Note 3 is a bargain! http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/401123314170

      • +1

        Thanks! bought 10.

Hope its not a pricing error.

  • 10% off with code PHONE15 on all phones, T&Cs apply.

Saw the above on one of the phone pages.

  • Why would you buy a phone you can only use once (unless you a gangster?)

  • Seem no LG G6 Blue anymore not the Plus.

  • Can I use this on a phone from Hong Kong? The Note 8 is $1299 before discount at one retailer so this would bring it down to $1049.

    • Since it's over $1000, you might end up paying $200+ more on GST, duty, processing, etc. They might calculate it based on the original price showing on an invoice. Maybe local stock is better?

    • Max discount $150?

  • +3

Got an iPhone 7 128GB from MobiCiti for $845. Now combine with TRS and it's a great deal.

    • +1

thanks, 845 for a local stock nice.

      • -2

        Apple store is $849.

        Just a standard price drop.

        • Really!! Can u share the link please?

        • That's for starting model, not 128gb

        • 128g is still showing $999. that was already price reduced from ($12xx).

    • +2

Just got one, $755 after TRS refund as the invoice has the price before the eBay discount on it. Apple is not offering the "sweet spot" 128GB on the iPhone 8 or X, so anyone who like me needs more than 64 GB would have to fork out at least $1329 (before TRS) if they want a 2017 model. That is a nearly $500 difference for two phones that are not very different at all.

  • +2

Was about to buy an iPhone 6S Plus from Apple for $849. Managed to get the last one from MobileCiti for $719. Thanks!

  • Any chance if Mobileciti will refund the 5% difference if I bought from last deal with 10% code? Anyone tried before?

    • Dunno, couldnt you just cancel your pre-order, then re-order with the 10%. I know that seems like a hassle, but theyre under no obligation to do that for your original order.

      • -1

Yeah true. I opened the box but haven't turned the phone on yet. Was going to claim TRS in 3 weeks time. Also bought it as part of the Samsung 20k Qantas points offer, 20k points in my QFF account already. Not sure if the Qantas points will be clawed back somehow if I do a refund and repurchase, also if there will be restocking fee. I'll probably ring them to find out.

  • just picked up a second hand 'almost brand new' samsung s8+ (aus model) for 680. Thanks OP.

    • Only they claimed "almost brand new", right?

      • +1

Yeah but he's got a telstra receipt from 2 months ago so I just assumed you can't screw up a phone too badly in 2 months. Fingers crossed.

  • Brings the Moto G5+ from QD down to $279.65 for those that missed out at $278.10

    Any S7's below $500?

    • -1

      Try using the search bar.

  • No one posted any OnePlus 5 deal yet? They safe to buy on eBay aren't they?

    • coz the price is not that much difference than buying from Oneplus directly.

      • ~$520 compared to $599? Maybe I'm missing something though, which is why I asked

        • +1

Check again, just saw a deal of OP 5. ~490 after applying code.
